Astrologers predict the outcome of the 2012 election: Part I

2012 presidential election predictionsAt the recent United Astrology Conference (to which I was invited to speak, but was unable to attend due to family health emergencies), a panel of esteemed astrologers discussed their predictions regarding the outcome of the 2012 presidential elections.

You can watch the entire presentation and (thanks for the links).  I was interested to see what techniques these astrologers used.  Most of the astrologers on the panel represent one of the more traditional branches of astrology, with Gary Christian practicing Uranian astrology which is a sort of fringe element of astrology that goes back to the early 20th century.

  • Gary Christian, representing Uranian astrology and Cosmobiology.
  • Edith Hathaway, representing Indian or Vedic astrology.
  • Nina Gryphon, representing Medieval and Renaissance astrology.
  • Claude Weiss, representing Modern western astrology.
  • Chris Brennan, representing Hellenistic astrology, on behalf of the writers of the Political Astrology Blog.

Gary Christian used the date for the oath of office and the solstice chart for the Winter Solstice 2012 and inserted the charts for both candidates into these charts.

Edith Hathaway used a variety of Vedic techniques as well as the strength of the ascendant lord (ruler) and the 10th house lord (ruler).  She is suspicious of the official Obama chart but prefers her rectified chart with Cancer rising as opposed to the Aquarius rising chart using the official birth certificate.  (Personally I have a hard time seeing Obama as a sensitive Cancerian ascendant.)

Nina Gryphon uses only the traditional planets.  She used the Aries ingress (spring equinox) chart for the year and location of the election. You can .

Claude Weiss uses transits and progressions, converse progressions, solar returns including progressed solar return as it aspects […]

The Uranus/Pluto square in the news

The square between Uranus in Aries to Pluto in Capricorn represents the departure from the status quo (Uranus) in favor of the individual (Aries) and the destruction (Pluto) of established power structures (Capricorn).  Here are a few examples:

  • Protests (Uranus) against Putin (Pluto) are the “new norm”
  • And most shocking of all, .

How are things in your world?

Sunday inspiration: Leaving fear behind in times of change

Uranus square PlutoToday is the first exact square alignment between Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries.  Saturn is stationary right now, putting a clamp in any urge to flee, and it will change direction tomorrow.  Jupiter is in a square alignment to Neptune in an aspect that will culminate tomorrow.

So if things are feeling a little intense for you right now, it’s not surprising.

We had some friends over last night and the topic of discussion was how to navigate these difficult waters.  When we see the old order (Capricorn) crumbling around us (Pluto), and the forces for revolution (Uranus) awaken, what can we as individuals (Aries) do to aid the Universe in the rebalancing process?  What can we do when we see corruption and devastation everywhere we turn?

This rebalancing is the very essence of the human experience.  When a political system or national identity becomes corrupt or diseased to the point where it is no longer viable, that system will crumble or collapse under its own weight.  Sometimes the decay is so great that the system needs to be destroyed (Pluto) so that it can be rebuilt, and there is no way to save it.  Patching and band-aid repair are no longer viable, and at that point all we can do is get out of the way as the system collapses.

Then the rebuilding comes in, and that is when we are needed.

In our personal lives, the more authentically true that we can be to ourselves, and the more fearlessly we are able to face the cycles of change, the less difficulty we tend to encounter in the outside world and the better we are able to manage times of crisis. We can extend this philosophy to […]

The astrology of Multiple Sclerosis: Jack Osbourne

Jack Osbourne MS astrologyJust a few weeks ago I did a reading for a client with MS and wrote about it here in a discussion of the correlation between “warrior energy” and immune system disorders including MS.  Shortly thereafter celebrity Jack Osbourne announced that he has been diagnosed with MS.

Osbourne is known primarily through the television reality show The Osbournes in which he is portrayed as the rebellious and drug addicted son of metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne.  Jack Osbourne was dyslexic as a child and put on Ritalin for an ADD diagnosis as a teenager.  His use of drugs escalated when his mother was diagnosed with cancer in 2002, and in 2003 at the age of 18 he was admitted to a psychiatric ward for an oxycontin addiction. Shortly thereafter he attempted suicide by cutting his wrists after being rejected by a girlfriend (according to his ; most accounts report that the suicide attempt occurred after his mother’s cancer diagnosis).

Jack Osbourne’s  reveals some interesting clues.  If the birthtime sourced by Astrotheme is correct he has Leo rising, with the Sun in Scorpio and a Virgo Moon.  Someone with a Scorpio Sun is meant to live life intensely and with emotional fearlessness – to challenge themselves and others in a relentless journey to the ultimate Truth.  But Leo seeks joy and happiness in life, and has a great need to be loved and appreciated.  These two signs conflict with each other, resulting in a challenging inner debate.  Scorpio is secretive and private, and Leo desires publicity and recognition.

His Virgo Moon can be somewhat fearful and security-driven, and while the Leo ascendant seeks the spotlight his Virgo Moon likely […]

Astrology in my world: more on the Saturn Return and adventures with Chiron

Susan Seddon Boulet Art by Susan Seddon Boulet

As I’ve been writing in this blog, I am in the middle of my second Saturn Return (also see this article if interested).  The Saturn Return is one of the major astrological life cycles in which we are brought face to face with the realities (Saturn) of our lives.  During the first Saturn Return at age 28-30 we have to face the fact that we are no longer freewheeling youths and we have to face up to the responsibilities of adulthood.  The second Saturn Return at age 56-59 requires us to face the fact that we are moving into what they used to call “old age.”  Now we call it the “Third Age” which better reflects the realities of being 60 in the twenty-first century. In any case, the Saturn Return is a slog through hard work and difficult responsibilities.  It can be an incredibly productive and successful time, and it can also be fraught with challenges.  Often these two occur at the same time.  My second Saturn Return has brought professional success in a number of different arenas, but also some major difficulties: the deteriorating health of my elderly mother, the demise and resurrection of this  blog, a 6 week-long battle with Lenovo over a laptop that never worked right, and too many more to list here. If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile you may know that I am a person who likes to have a lot of irons in different fires.  I have a busy professional astrological practice.  I own a real estate company.  I play four five different instruments (none very well) and also try to maintain a spiritual practice.  For […]
