Light a fire with the Sagittarius New Moon November 22!

Sagittarius Full MoonEvery New Moon brings a new beginning with the new lunar cycle.  The Sun and the Moon come together in an alchemical conjunctio – the reunification of the masculine conscious force (Sun) with the instinctive lunar feminine (Moon).  When this new beginning occurs in Sagittarius, the sign of adventure and ideas and meaning and just plain fun, we have the opportunity to bring in more zest and gusto.  Suddenly we are aware of unlimited possibilities, and our view across the future is longer and more encouraging.

The symbolism of the New Moon is even more powerful since the both the Sun and Moon are at the very first degree of Sagittarius.  A New Moon at the first degree of a sign is very symbolic of a fresh new energy coming into our lives and sweeping away the old. Under the influence of Scorpio the dead and dying aspects of our lives were immolated in fire, and now under Sagittarius the old is swept away and a new expansive way of looking at the world emerges. A Pope for the Uranus/Pluto square

Pope Francis astrologyAs you know if you’ve been reading the astrological news in the past few years, we are now in the waning phase of a square aspect (90 degrees) between Uranus and Pluto.  You can read more about this phase in the sidebar of this blog if this concept is new to you, and you may want to catch up on this post about the Uranus/Pluto square from last year detailing the news events that correlate with this cycle.

One such event was the resignation of Pope Benedict in 2013.  Not only was he the first pope to resign since 1415, he was replaced by Pope Francis who himself is a walking representative of the square between Uranus in Aries (individual liberty and personal revolution) and Pluto in Capricorn (the breakdown of the structures upon which our society is built).  Benedict was a traditionalist and saw homosexuality as an “intrinsic moral evil.”  He was a strict doctrinarian and resisted any kind of liberal reform, thereby representing the Capricorn adherence to the structures of traditional morals and rules.  He insulted Islam, promoted a holocaust-denying bishop, and equated the ordination of women with sexual abuse. Samhain Full Moon in Taurus, November 6th 2014

Samhain full moon

Although the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain is celebrated for convenience on October 31st to coincide with Hallowe’en or All Hallows Eve, it actually occurs at the midpoint between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice.  This is also the midpoint of Scorpio, the dark season where the veils between the world begin to thin and it becomes easier to cross between them.

This year the Taurus Full Moon falls within one degree of the Samhain point – the Sun at 15 degrees Scorpio.  The power of this lunar opening at this degree encourages us to open more fully and walk courageously into the underworld of our own existence, finding the quiet power that lies within.  While the power of the earlier Scorpio stellium is lessening, there are still three planets in Scorpio which continue the focus on the power of emotions and feelings to transform and regenerate new life from the ashes of the past.

Every Full Moon consists of the Sun and Moon in opposite signs, so there is a need for integration and balance. The Taurus/Scorpio polarity is one of holding on and letting go. Taurus dislikes change and prefers stability, which can create stagnation. The Scorpio end of the polarity forces transformation in the form of destruction which is uncomfortable, but ultimately helps to move us forwards in our personal evolution as the regeneration cycle occurs.

With the Taurus Full Moon we are leaning towards the Taurus end of the spectrum as the Sun invites us to consider the dark arts of Scorpio to help let go of the past and welcome the Taurean peace and serenity that comes from being anchored into the Earth. […]

Election Day Politics and the Uranus/Pluto square

voteI was watching Morning Joe this morning while exercising because there was nothing on the DVD.  Today is election day in the US so it was interesting hearing the discussion about which party will make the difference if they win the Senate.  What most of the panelists agree on is that there will be no difference – no matter which party wins tonight gridlock will continue.  If the Democrats retain the majority the two parties will fail to compromise, and if the Republicans win a majority there will be gridlock between the establishment Republicans and the more conservative challengers of their own party.

If they read the astrology news along with the Wall Street Journal they would understand that this is because of the square aspect between Uranus in Aries – the challenger, the innovator, the harbinger for change and individual rights – and Pluto in Capricorn – the holder and consolidator of power, the dominating force.  Ever since these two planets began their dance in 2010 (and before that really, since Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008) there has been this kind of tug and pull between conservative notions of reality (Capricorn Pluto) and the pressure to burst out of old paradigms and try something new (Aries Uranus).

The square aspect continues into 2015 so the pundits are correct when they say that this battle between the old and the new will continue until the 2016 elections.  In the meantime, the old structures are failing and the two party political system in the US may be falling with it.
