The astrology of the US Presidential election nomination charts

election prediction 2016

Astrologer has kindly been posting the data for the nomination of the two major presidential candidates in the US election on Facebook.  Donald Trump’s nomination took place July 21, 2016 at 10:19 pm in Cleveland Ohio, and Hillary Clinton’s nomination took place July 28, 2016 at 10:47 pm in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

The use of an astrological chart for an event is called “mundane astrology” and it is not my particular specialty.  Still, it can provide some helpful insight into the energies behind events and help to increase our understanding.  The chart for the nomination and acceptance of the candidacy IS the chart for the candidacy itself.

Trump-nomination

The nomination chart for Donald Trump has the first degree Pisces rising which is not a very strong factor in an election chart.  Pisces is about letting go and surrender, it can be magical in the appropriate setting but can also denote confusion and obuscation.  The Sun, at the last degree of Cancer forms not a trine but an awkward quincunx to the Moon which is another message that the machinery behind the candidacy is not working well, with unresolved conflicts and lack of harmony.  The Aquarius Moon has just made a challenging square to Mars which in Scorpio which it rules is at its most powerful, harnessing the aggressive force to be utilized except that the Moon is “void of course” which is a very weak factor in an event chart and suggests that the candidacy will not gain traction and is likely to flounder.

As we have seen, Trump’s personality is driven by the presence of Mars, the god […]

A reader asks, “When will we know peace in the world?”

I received this in my email today:

I should think that every published astrologer would be writing about a time when all of these horrid transits and conjunctions will end. Or will they ever? Yet, I have scoured The Mountain Astrologer, online astro sites and subscribe to anyone who might talk about such events. It’s hard to keep a positive attitude when each new year seems to be nothing but another annus horribilus. When will we know peace in the world? When will all of this stress from the heavenly bodies subside? We’re exhausted with it.

I know that many people can relate to this person’s anguish and this has been a very long period of cataclysmic change, beginning in 2008 when Pluto entered Capricorn and continuing through 2017.  That said, according to the :  “Of the past 3,400 years, humans have been entirely at peace for 268 of them, or just 8 percent of recorded history.”

Statistically this is not the worst period of modern human history in terms of the number of political or war deaths as you will see from the table .   However, this does not change the fact that we are living through THIS period, and deeply affected by the trauma and destruction that we see around us.

It’s important to remember that “the stars impel, they do not compel.”  The planetary alignments create an environment which forces an adjustment where change is needed.  If our lives are flowing in harmony and we feel that we are in alignment with our soul purpose, difficult planetary aspects do not necessarily create terrible events.  But the Universe is always striving for balance, and whether in our psyche, our personal lives, or our national […]

“The year that rock exploded”: Neptune in Sagittarius

1971I was just reading about 1971 as “the year that rock exploded” which says:

“In his new book, Never a Dull Moment,Hepworth makes the case that the music from 1971 was the result of “a huge explosion of creativity in a very short period of time” and lives on in the present like most old music does not.

Some of the best albums of all time were recorded and released in 1971, including:

  • “Sticky Fingers” by the Rolling Stone,
  • “The Yes Album” by Yes,
  • “Cry of Love” by Jimi Hendrix,
  • “Aqualung” by Jethro Tull,
  • “Imagine” by John Lennon,
  • “Inner Mounting Flame” by the Mahavishnu Orchestra,
  • “Pearl” by Janis Joplin,
  • “The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys” by Traffic,
  • “Led Zeppelin IV” by Led Zeppelin,
  • “Blue” by Joni Mitchell,
  • “Mud Slide Slim” by James Taylor,
  • “Tapestry” by Carole King.

You can read the whole list on the who write the book.  As Hepworth points out, not only was an enormous amount of fantastic albums produced, the artists themselves kept pumping out brilliance into the world.

When there’s a big shift like this there is always a change in the astrological climate.  In December of 1970, Neptune entered the sign of Sagittarius.  Neptune is a tranformational planet: it inspires creativity and divine wisdom; it urges us to explore the realms beyond the ordinary and takes us to great heights.  By blurring our material vision it demands that we look within and outside of the material world. It can also cloud our vision, facilitate our addictions and generally create confusion, delusion and illusion.

Neptune is also associated with creativity and the arts as well as popular culture. With Neptune in Sagittarius, the sign of expansion and exploration, any boundaries or limits disappear and creativity abounds. […]

Pluto in Capricorn: The Death of Capitalism?

end of capitalismAstrologer Richard Nolle posted a link to on Facebook:

At the very moment of its ultimate triumph, capitalism will experience the most exquisite of deaths.

This is the belief of political adviser and author , who argues the current economic system has become so successful at lowering the costs of production that it has created the very conditions for the destruction of the traditional vertically integrated corporation.

Rifkin, who has advised the European Commission, the European Parliament and heads of state, including German chancellor Angela Merkel, says:

No one in their wildest imagination, including economists and business people, ever imagined the possibility of a technology revolution so extreme in its productivity that it could actually reduce marginal costs to near zero, making products nearly free, abundant and absolutely no longer subject to market forces.

With many manufacturing companies surviving only on razor thin margins, they will buckle under competition from small operators with virtually no fixed costs.

“We are seeing the final triumph of capitalism followed by its exit off the world stage and the entrance of the collaborative commons,” Rifkin predicts.

The creation of the collaborative commons

From the ashes of the current economic system, he believes, will emerge a radical new model powered by the extraordinary pace of innovation in energy, communication and transport.

“This is the first new economic system since the advent of capitalism and socialism in the early 19th century so it’s a remarkable historical event and it’s going to transform our way of life fundamentally over the coming years,” Rifkin says. “It already is; we just haven’t framed it.”

Some sectors, such as music and media, have already been disrupted as a result of the internet’s ability to […]

Sunday inspiration: Longing to Belong

Venus is in Cancer right now, enhancing our longing to belong to a tribe, a family of souls that connect us to the earth.  This longing for connection conflicts over the next day or two with Uranus in Aries – the individualist, the loner.  This conflict between our need for individual space and our need to belong is central to the human condition and creator of much of our personal and political conflicts.

To inspire healing on this day where our desire to belong is conflicting with our need to separate, I offer this beautiful writing from the late John O’Donohoe.

Our world desperately needs to come in from the lost islands of desiccated individualism and learn to stand again on the fecund earth where vibrant and vital interaction can happen between people.

Our world is facing so many crises ecologically, economically, and spiritually. These cannot be overcome by isolated individuals. We need to come together. There is incredible power in a community of people who are together because they care, and who are motivated by the ideals of compassion and creativity.

When such a community develops and maintains its own vision, it will not fall into the trap of being prisoners of reaction and beginning to resemble more and more the opposition. It will not deconstruct in the introverted power games, but maintain its care and critical focus.

When such a prophetic community is nourished by prayer and animated by Divine Longing, the harvest of creativity and belonging which it can bring is unlimited.
