Gemini New Super Moon May 25th: Sparkly magic and wonder

The Sun has just entered the brilliant sign of Gemini, and now the Moon aligns with the Sun, fusing the solar consciousness with lunar magic at a time when the Moon is closest to Earth – a Super Moon (™ ) and one of a trio of Super New Moons (April, May and June).

Super Moons can exert a more powerful influence than ordinary lunations – on a personal level we may feel this as a burst of emotional energy and intensity.  Globally, Super Moons are associated with an increase in tidal intensity and seismic forces.  Richard calls the Super New Moons “stealth Super Moons” because we don’t see the huge Super Moon in all its glory.

Gemini season tends to speed up time – a firehose of information, thoughts and ideas can be somewhat overwhelming but also exciting and enlightening. Under the influence of Gemini we are more open to new experiences and recreating ourselves by trying on new personas and ways of thinking.  Here we have not only the Sun and Moon in Gemini, but also Mars, the planet of action and initiation.  There are so many choices now – so many attractive options it can be somewhat dizzying.  But an opposition from Saturn, planet of form and structure, will help to ground and contain us.

This New Moon is opposed by the Black Moon Lilith, suggesting that a deep and ancient voice from our past may emerge and demand to be heard.  In addition, a challenging square from Pluto (intensity and transformation) to Venus (relationships) could create some stress in our interpersonal connections or at the very least, intensify these contacts and facilitate their evolution.

The sparkling light of the Aquarius Super Moon, August 10 2014

By | 2018-06-11T11:59:14+00:00 August 9th, 2014|Moon|

The Moon is full in Aquarius on August 10th – the second Supermoon (TM Richard Nolle) of the summer.  When the Full Moon is a Supermoon it appears larger than usual in the sky and its influence is more powerful.  Full Moons represent the culmination of our emotional awareness – the peak of insight and intuition and an opening of the heart.

Aquarius is known as the Water Bearer – while Aquarius is an air sign and tends to be rather uncomfortable in the realm of feelings, it acts as the container for the emotions (the water element) to flow through the personality and find a higher expression through insight and intuition.  The element of air represents the intellect, but it is the connection with emotional intelligence (water) that brings true wisdom.  Under the influence of Aquarius we are able to harness the realm of feeling and tether it to reason, enhancing our understanding of the way the world works.

Aquarius is ruled traditionally by Saturn and its modern ruler is Uranus, and both of these planets are active in the chart of this Full Moon (Saturn in Scorpio is in a square to the Sun and Moon, and Uranus in Aries is in a trine to the Sun and sextile to the Moon).  Because of Saturn, we will likely find that an adjustment is required in order to resolve the natural tension between the Leo focus on the individual personality and the Aquarian need to subsume the individual into the collective and create lasting change. Any planetary system involving Saturn requires focus and attention in order to navigate successfully.

The Sun is conjunct Mercury, planet of the mind and intellect, and both […]

Cancer Supermoon Eclipse! July 12, 2018

By | 2018-07-12T09:20:56+00:00 July 12th, 2018|Moon|

Cancer New MoonThe Cancer New Moon on the 12th is a Supermoon and a partial solar eclipse.  The term Supermoon (™ astrologer ) simply means that the Moon is at its closest point to the Earth.  When the Moon is full and a Supermoon it appears large in the sky.  When the Supermoon is a New Moon, we can’t see it at all because the light of the Sun obscures the Moon.  When the New Moon is an eclipse, the Sun is obscured as well.

The symbolism of an eclipse is connected to the Nodes of the Moon – points in the sky where the path of the Moon crosses the path of the Sun.  Because the lunar nodes are connected to fate and destiny, eclipses do often have a fated quality and a sense that something in the life is being exposed or released.

All New Moons, whether an eclipse or not, are a time of new beginnings.  The New Moon in Cancer seeks to connect us to our emotional roots – family, or the family that we create for ourselves.  We cannot master the world (Cancer’s opposite sign of Capricorn) until we connect deeply to our emotional heart and allow it to soften rather than build up a crusty shell that defends us from hurt but also prevents the flow of love.  This is one of the lessons of Cancer.

Another Cancerian lesson is that the past takes us to the future and cannot be avoided.  Our history is our present, and both can be transformed.

This is a partial eclipse visibly and pretty far from the lunar nodes so weaker astrologically –  but it is a powerful astrological event nonetheless.   The New Moon is exactly opposite Pluto, […]

The January 2018 “Super Blue Blood Moon” and the Leo/Aquarius axis

By | 2018-01-28T08:17:39+00:00 January 28th, 2018|Moon|

January 31 blood super moon eclipse

The Leo Full Moon on January 31st offers a trifecta of attributes which make this lunar event somewhat significant.  Most important from an astrological perspective, this is a total lunar eclipse with very tight angles to the lunar nodes, the points that represent our passage from past to future.  This tight connection between the Moon and the Sun and the nodes opens up a force field that unlocks areas of our life which we have shut down, or attempted to protect ourselves from.

Four of the five eclipses in 2018 are on the Leo/Aquarius axis, forcing us to confront areas where our need for personal development and satisfaction (Leo) are in conflict with the need to let go of some of our personal satisfaction in order to achieve justice and equality in the world around us (Aquarius).  Leo and Aquarius are opposites in the Zodiac – there is a tension between them that require integration and balance.  In this eclipse the Sun and South Node are in Aquarius, demonstrating the consciously creative impulse that is detached and manifests as pure energy.  The Leo Moon is bringing out our secret longings for recognition and pleasure, to find joy in the world and a sense of feeling special and unique, admired by those around us.  The North Node aligns with the Moon to assist us in this journey while not leaving behind the higher Aquarian aspirations towards a more transpersonal view.

The fact that this is a so-called “Blue Moon” is merely a calendar accident and has no real astrological significance.  However, this is a SuperMoon (© ), meaning the Moon is closer to the Earth than […]

A Cancerian Supermoon for the New Year

By | 2017-12-31T07:33:48+00:00 December 31st, 2017|Moon|

New Year Full Moon

The first Full Moon of 2018 occurs right on New Year’s Day, in the highly sensitive and emotional sign of Cancer.   Cancer is the Moon’s own sign, and it is happiest there where its sentimentality and security needs can be best expressed.  The Cancerian Full Moon asks us to open our hearts and allow ourselves to be nurtured, and to find ways where we can both give and receive in greater balance.

This Full Moon is a Supermoon (© ) as it is nearing the closest point to the Earth in its normal orbit(perigee).  There are two Full Moons in January 2018, and both are Supermoons.  The Cancer Supermoon can be more intense emotionally, especially for individuals who tend to be more sensitive to lunar events.  Supermoons are often harbingers of intense weather and seismic events.  (The January 31 Supermoon will be in Leo and will have a more fiery quality, especially since it’s an eclipse as well.  More on that later!)

Full Moons signify a polarity – a need to balance oppositional forces.  Here the worldly Capricorn Sun opposes the delicate sensitivity of the Cancerian Moon, urging us to not lose sight of the tender heart that nourishes us while we focus on the Things That Must Be Done that Capricorn requires.  The heart connections that we enjoy with family and friends – our tribe, whether self-selected or the one we are thrust into – provide that nurturing that we need in order to function in the world.

The polarity balance in this Full Moon is heavily weighted towards Capricorn, with Venus and Pluto in Capricorn flanking the Sun.  The presence of Venus helps to soften the businesslike nature of Capricorn and […]

The November 14th Supermoon in Taurus – Building a solid foundation

By | 2016-11-13T08:31:44+00:00 November 13th, 2016|Moon|

Taurus Supermoon November 14The concept of the Supermoon, originally coined by astrologer , has reached the mainstream as NASA calls this the biggest Supermoon since 1948.  A Full Moon or New Moon is called a Supermoon when it is at its closest to the Earth .  We don’t see the New Moon, of course, but the Full Moon appears larger and its astrological influence is stronger during a Supermoon than at other times, with higher tides and often extreme weather incidents.

Richard himself thinks that this is being overblown in the news:

The media have made a pretty big deal over this, but the truth is that the perigee (closest approach to Earth) for the November 14 occurs when the Moon is 356,511 kilometers away from our home planet. That’s only 1,348 km. closer than last month’s (October 16) SuperMoon; and only 66 km. (41 mi.) closer than the closest SuperMoon of 2011. This is really gilding the lily!

In any case, this Full Moon falls in the sign of Taurus – the sign of the Earth itself.

Taurus is the earthiest of all of the earth signs – it is a fixed sign so it encourages stability and perseverance, but is also stubborn and unyielding.  As an earth sign, Taurus is concerned with practical matters and physical comfort.  Sensual experiences of food and touch are important for Taurus, and for all of us under the Taurus Full Moon.

When the Moon is full in Taurus, the Scorpio Sun is exactly opposite the Moon.  Full Moons are the apex of the lunar cycle, and the opposition  (180 degree) aspect requires integration of polar opposites.  Where Taurus longs for peace and comfort, Scorpio demands intensity and […]

The Supermoon Virgo eclipse is a bounty of challenge, and inspiration

By | 2015-09-12T08:10:40+00:00 September 12th, 2015|Moon|

The eclipse on September 13th brings a crescendo of planetary energy to propel us out of our stale routines, helping us to access our creativity and inspiration.  The Moon is new in Virgo, with the Sun and Moon aligned in that sign to bring a sharp focus to matters of the practical and mundane details of our lives.  Health, hygiene and effective life patterns are governed by Virgo.

Mercury is the ruler of Virgo, so Mercury is the ruler of this eclipse. The organization of information so that we can use it more effectively is an important part of this eclipse activation.  The higher mind, with its intuition and wisdom, is unable to operate when the lower mind is bogged down with details that it cannot process.  At this New Moon eclipse we have an opportunity to clear the lower mind and organize our thoughts.

The eclipse is also a Supermoon (coined by ), and at its closest point to the Earth.  Where a Full Moon Supermoon is big and buoyant in the sky, the New Moon Supermoon is activated on the subconscious level.  You may find yourself with heightened emotional awareness as well as reactivity under this influence, particularly if you are sensitive to lunar energies.

Both the Sun and Moon are opposite Chiron in the New Moon Chart.  Chiron is the planet that assists in the process of clearing old psycho-emotional wounds that lurk in the mind, body and spirit and create dis-ease.   This Chironic influence suggests that hidden within these mundane details lies the key to healing the soul and any dysfunction that remains active in our lives.

The lunar energy is further intensified by a […]

First of three Supermoons: July 12 2014

By | 2016-11-15T08:28:49+00:00 July 10th, 2014|Moon|

Supermoon July 2014The first of the summer Supermoons will take place on July 12th.  The term to describe the Moon that when full (i.e., opposite the Sun) is at its perigee or closest point to the earth.

When a Supermoon occurs at a Full Moon the effect of the lunation is amplified.  Everyone responds differently to Full Moons.  Some become more emotional.  Some become more anxious.  Some (like me!) have trouble sleeping.  Some have no experience of a Full Moon at all.

Much of your experience of Full Moons generally depends on the makeup of your astrological chart, but also whether the lunation makes a mathematical relationship to your own chart.  For example, if you have a challenging planetary system in your chart at 20 degrees Capricorn, a Full Moon at 20 degrees Capricorn or thereabouts will affect you more personally.

The Capricorn Full Moon brings a fascination with the material world – how will we master our finances?  What is our role in the world around us?  How can we feel fulfilled in our chosen profession and vocation?  How do we resolve the tension between our inner and home (Cancer) with the need to make a mark in the world? (Capricorn).

Richard Nolle has connected the Supermoon with an increase in geophysical activity such as earthquakes, floods, and even solar flares.  He is nearly always correct!

What makes this particular Supermoon even more dramatic is the fact that the lunation makes a nearly exact square to the lunar nodes.  A lunation is called an eclipse when the Sun and Moon are conjunct the lunar nodes – the square aspect is more intense and creates more drama for the Moon.  Heightened emotional intensity will be the […]

Summer Solstice and a Super Full Moon

By | 2013-06-21T16:34:33+00:00 June 21st, 2013|Moon|

Capricorn Full Moon June 2013The Sun entered Cancer today, marking the Summer Solstice and the beginning of the astrological summer season.  The Sun has been transiting over Jupiter for the past week which generally brings about a more expansive and optimistic atmosphere.  With the entry of the Sun into Cancer, it separates from Jupiter and there is some potential that we will fall to earth in a serious reality check.

This fall will have a relatively soft landing, since Saturn (the planet that governs reality checks) forms a trine to the Cancer Sun and harmonizes with the Capricorn Moon, helping us to gain greater understanding if we think to look behind our disappointment.

The Capricorn Full Moon on June 23rd accentuates the closing of the door to unbridled exuberance, since Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and tends to be seriously practical and disdain flights of fantasy or cheerfulness that goes beyond reason.  At the Full Moon, the Cancer Sun opposes the Capricorn Moon and forces us to find balance between emotion (Cancer) and practical duty (Capricorn), between home life (Cancer) and achievement (Capricorn), between connection to our family or tribe (Cancer) and our duty to the world around us (Capricorn).  Cancer is itself ruled by the Moon, so the challenge here is to learn to keep the heart open while taking care of the business of every day life.

At this Full Moon there is a wide but still active connection to Uranus and Pluto, awakening (Uranus) and requiring depth and focus (Pluto).  When Pluto’s pressure to delve below the surface is tied to lunar symbology it often takes us into contact with our ancestry and our inherited psychological legacy.  The Moon is at perigee (closest to earth) which […]
