Astrology today: Grand Cross update, April 21 2014

april grand cross

In April, a big lineup of planets in cardinal signs of action have created stress and tension with opportunities for release and transformation.  Transformation is not always easy, and the tension of the grand cross can bring conflict and crisis.  Sometimes the intensity is more than certain individuals can bear, and we see this play out in the news.

Mars, planet of aggression, has been traveling retrograde where it is dredging up old resentments and because it is traveling so slowly, its influence is stronger and lasts for a longer period of time.

Jupiter, planet of expansion and opportunity, is in Cancer where it is opening the heart and revealing our emotional sensitivity.

We are also dealing with Pluto, planet of death and rebirth, in Capricorn, an earth sign.  I have long predicted that when Pluto entered Capricorn we would see an abundance of earthquakes and earth changes, especially when Pluto aligned in a square (90 degree) aspect to Uranus.  Uranus is the planet that causes disruption and awakens change.

Yesterday the Moon entered the already tense Grand Cross, making a total of five planets and luminaries locked in this tight alignment.  Yet one day later, the world is still turning on its axis and not much has changed.

We have had difficult planetary alignments since 2008, and most intensively since 2011.  Many of us are becoming accustomed to this new degree of intensity, so a few days of heightened magnetism does not cause great distress.  It is generally at the beginning of these periods, when the new energies are just beginning to enter our consciousness, that we find them most difficult to manage.

I am not inclined to jump on the bandwagon of doom and gloom that predicts ongoing crisis for the next few years.  While it’s true that here in the US the Grand Cross hits sensitive points in the US chart, the US has had quite a few intense alignments including Uranus and Pluto transiting the angles of the chart – the power places that indicate significant transformation which we have indeed seen.  In addition, the US Saturn Return has led to deprivation across the country and a contraction of its economy for all but the wealthy.

In my view, the intensity of the alignments have peaked and if we can adjust to the new realities we will be able to move forward in our lives with confidence and success.

I have 13 Libra rising so things have been extra bad for me. I was hoping the Cardinal Cross would bring a breakthrough for me but unfortunately it hasn’t yet. I am willing and eager to do anything but everything is beyond my control and has been for years now.

I have gotten used to it, yes, but that doesn’t mean I’m happy about the way things are. I regularly have to fight off depression and suicidal thoughts. I try to find things to be grateful for and focus on the positive but they are comparably so small it’s like being grateful for a belt when you have no pants or underwear.

I’m not the type who normally complains or considers himself a victim, but everything seems so hopeless like it will never get better but for divine intervention. I can’t afford a reading but can you give us any hope? Is it still going to be years before things get better? Not sure how much longer I can make it.

Anthony I also fight off depression and suicidal thoughts but don’t give up hope…NEVER! Do ur breath work! It’s everything!!!! For me it’s the one place I can go for relief as I can never understand why I have so many blocks personally and professionally! And do continue to COUNT ur blessings NO MATTER WHAT and no matter how tiny you perceive them…LYNN’s a Big Blessing! I think we’re all getting a clearing of our paths….April was to be our toughest month out of the year Anthony so hang in there. Out with the old and in with the NEW. There’s much love out there for you Anthony!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I am grateful for Lynn’s blog among others where I can find some help and insight for free.

I just don’t want to get used to my life the way it is now. I don’t think I should have to, things are so awful, this is no way for anyone to live. Wish brighter days and some happiness would come.

You don’t have to get used to misery and pain. You can make changes. Anything is possible! I am living proof. 🙂

Anthony, in the midst of great trials things can always look better. So much of what happens in our lives is colored by our perspective. I myself have been a survivor of abuse and was depressed and suicidal for much of my life.

Please read this post I wrote a few months back, and post your birth data. I’ll take a look at your chart and see what I can tell you that will help.

Thank you, I definitely want to make changes. I have before in my life when things weren’t going well, but this time I am just blocked everywhere I turn. I definitely related to what you wrote about the dark night of the soul. I have read about that recently. I know this will ultimately be good for me once I make it through it’s just been so long since anything good has happened no matter how hard I try to improve things.

Anthony, I can see why this week in particular is so difficult for you. Not only do you have Uranus and Pluto and the other guys challenging your Libra ascendant and Cancer midheaven, but you have a conjunction of Saturn and Pluto which was touched off by the full moon eclipse. I can imagine that there would have been an eruption of emotion around that time that was difficult to bear. Four months ago your Moon progressed into Cancer so you are probably more emotional now than usual. And you probably know that Saturn has been opposing your Moon which brings out the latent depression of Saturn/Pluto.

If you are blocked everywhere you turn all you can do is wait. Sometimes we have to just be present in our feelings and our distress and breathe and allow it all to flow through us so that it can be released. Let me assure you there is light at the end of the tunnel: your progressed Sun conjoins natal Venus and progressed Venus trines progressed Neptune – nice and beneficial progressed aspects that can facilitate creativity. There are quite a few nice Jupiter transits coming up for you this summer including a trine from Jupiter to your natal Jupiter which is quite lovely and expansive. In fact all through July there are lots of Jupiter contacts. But in June and again towards the end of August you have the last two hits of the Saturn to the Moon. My advice for that transit is to use that time to do good Saturn work – journal, see where the emotional pain is coming from and see how it needs to be transformed and what changes need to be made. Check out my Visioncrafting book and see if that might help.

Thank you. I have been watching all of those transits. That’s why I was hoping something would break through on the eclipse or the grand cross. I guess I should have known that nothing good would happen until Saturn was done with my moon.

Guess I will buckle down again and set my intentions on making it to July. Thank you for the hope.

Once I find employment again I will set up a full reading.

I’m sorry to hear that life is dumping on you, I connected with your statement about being grateful for things like a belt when you have no pants or underwear. And I acknowledge how tough it is to ward off feelings of depression and suicide. You are one tough soul.
