The US Seventh House of Enemies

Nations have astrological charts, and although usually there is a great deal of debate over which chart to use for a particular nation, the chart commonly accepted by most astrologers, and the one that I use, is the Sibley chart of July 4, 1776 at 5:10 pm, Philadelphia, with Sagittarius rising.  In this chart, the Sun – the primary driver of the personality in both individuals and in mundane charts of nations – is in the seventh house.

We think today of the seventh house as being the house of marriage and partnership, but traditionally it is also the place where “open enemies” can be found.  When the Sun is in the seventh house, we tend to define ourselves through our partnerships and observe ourselves through the eyes of the “other.”  This is certainly true of the United States the very existence of which originated in a war for independence, a separation of the US from the “other” – the parent country England.  (Saturn, the planet of tests and challenges, lives in the tenth house of the Sibley chart which in the chart of an individual often represents the parent as well as the expression of the entity in the outer world, reflecting a difficult separation from the parent country.)

The United States has always defined itself through the idea of an enemy.  The Cancerian Sun is oriented towards the idea of tribal loyalty and affiliation, and in the seventh house the tribe organizes against the enemy.  Originally of course this enemy against whom all citizens joined together was England.  After the Revolutionary War, settlers and citizens of the new Republic went to war against the native Americans and THEY became the enemy until the Mexican American war, at which […]

Create your new beginning with the Gemini New Moon, June 3 2019

The Moon is new on June 3rd in the sign of Gemini.  Gemini is the sign of the twins and finds pleasure in the embrace of dual views that may seem incompatible but which actually enhance our nature and help us to grow and evolve.  The more we understand about who we are, the more effective we can be in our lives and Gemini accomplishes this through attracting experiences through which we change and take on new characteristics and qualities.  Under the sign of Gemini we are more flexible, which makes it easier to create something new which forces us to shed an old skin that no longer fits these new experiences and new ways of looking at the world.

Gemini is an air sign, and lives in the realm of the mind.  Communication is critical under the influence of Gemini, and so is objectivity.  Gemini is also a bit of a mimic, encouraging us to try on new experiences and new personas in order to learn more about how we are.  In this New Moon chart, both the Sun and Moon are in a harmonious trine to Pallas – asteroid of Divine Intelligence.  Pallas connects us to our own inner knowing – unlike the flashes of intuition in which we gain knowledge from a higher plane, the wisdom of Pallas comes from within.  Under the influence of Pallas the divine spark of Universal wisdom is lit and we see with abundant clarity, unsullied by any confusion of personal emotions.

Venus, the planet of relating and attraction, is in a harmonious trine to transformational Pluto at this time.  The fruit of our ideas and realizations can be seamlessly integrated into our relationships […]

Planetary news this week! Astrological forecast for May 27-June 2, 2019

Last week we saw the peak of the challenging square from Mars (aggression) to Chiron (wounding and healing).  Perhaps you noticed, with Mars in the emotional sign of Cancer, that people around you were more reactive, either passive aggressive or outwardly aggressive, with feelings more easily hurt?

That influence is behind us, and this week he planetary influences over the next week are sweet and benign.  It’s a good week to rest and recharge, especially if (like me!) you are experiencing an intense planetary shift in your own chart.

The only real difficulty, and it is a mild one, occurs between the 28th and the 31st when Mercury (the mind) faces off in a square to Neptune (dreamy confusion) and opposite Jupiter (confidence).  This is an excellent time for creativity and spirituality – meditation, yoga, creating music or art.  It’s not such a good time for difficult conversations as much can be misunderstood under this influence.  The potential for arguments is high since Jupiter bestows the idea that WE are correct and others are not.  It’s not a good time for making business decisions as we may be overconfident and tend to miss small details – but it IS a good time to listen for your small voice within and your intuitive guidance.  After the 30th, Mercury will be out of range of both Jupiter and Neptune and the clouds will clear.

Venus (love and beauty) harmonizes with Saturn and Neptune between May 30th and June 2nd, a beautiful end to the month.  This enhances our relationships and all of our interactions with others, and also inspires us to seek a more peaceful approach to the matters at hand.  An awkward Venus/Jupiter aspect […]

Sunday musings: Follow your own path

As an astrologer, there are many different roads to travel.  Some astrologers prefer writing to client consultations.  Some like to teach.  Some follow the more traditional paths into medieval, Renaissance or Hellenistic astrology.  Some explore newer ideas with evolutionary astrology or human design.

My path has always been one of personal transformation, effected through writing and therapeutic personal consultations.  I have Gemini (the sign of communication) rising, my Leo Moon is in the third house of communication, and my Mercury (planet of communication) is in Scorpio where I like to go deep into the meaning of things, and in the sixth house where I like to use that knowledge to help people.

In today’s world of social media there are so many ways to tell your story.  For nearly 15 years this blog has been my mouthpiece, and despite rumors of the demise of blogging it is still a viable platform.  In an effort to remain relevant, I’ve stretched my story into Instagram and Youtube to see whether those outlets would be useful.  It’s been an interesting adventure, but for now I’m staying in my own lane of writing and demonstrating the magic of astrology through stories of people and events that shape our world.

I’ve always heard, and know it to be true, that when you follow your own path you attract just the right people to follow that path with you.  I’ve been told I’m a good public speaker, but I don’t love it.  What I love is writing and channeling just the right words to tell the astrological story of the topic I have chosen.  Over the years I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to speak to […]
