Pluto opposes the US Sun and a mass shooting every day

Cartoon from PiedType

One of the things I have used this blog for is to profile the psychology of criminals from an astrological viewpoint.  In the past there were one or two mass shootings in a year that warranted an attempt to try to understand what goes on in the human  mind to inspire such horrific behavior.  In 2015, with , this task has become impossible.

Back in June when a screwed up teenager shot up a church in Charleston I wrote “The real tragedy is that these events are becoming so commonplace that there is barely time to profile so many criminals and murderers, and at this point it becomes evident that the illness is not just in the individual, but also in the society that feeds the illness of the individual and causes it to erupt into the collective conscious experience.”

Also from that article,

Between 2000 and 2006 there were 6.4 mass shootings a year.  Between 2007 and 2013 that number jumped to 16.4 mass shootings a year.  Mother Jones magazine has posted of mass shootings in the US and you can see that in the 1980s there were one or two mass killings a year.  Shootings began to increase in the 1990s to two to three a year, and then we see a drastic increase to five in 1999, the year of the Columbine shootings.  During this time transiting Pluto was crossing the ascendant of the astrological chart for the United States and doing its job of bringing out the darkness of the collective unconscious.

Uranus full of surprises – even astronomers say so!

Uranus comic by Sammy DC

Uranus IS the planet of surprise and sudden changes in paradigms, so it was fun to see posted on Facebook by my friend :

University of Arizona astronomer Erich Karkoschka … believes that Uranus’s southern hemisphere rotates in a way never before seen in gas giants. A gas planet’s thick atmosphere, filled with clouds, typically shows the same rate of rotation at the top and bottom. But on Uranus, it seems, the southern hemisphere is cycling much more quickly than up north — as much as 15 percent faster.

“The unusual rotation of high southern latitudes of Uranus is probably due to an unusual feature in the interior of Uranus,” Karkoshcka . “While the nature of the feature and its interaction with the atmosphere are not yet known, the fact that I found this unusual rotation offers new possibilities to learn about the interior of a giant planet.”

Unusual features, new possibilities, faster movement – these are all highlights of the astrological influence of Uranus on humans.

The synchronicity between the planetary names and their astronomical qualities has always struck me.  For example, Uranus rotates on its side, unlike any of the other planets. And one of the archetypes of Uranus is dancing to the beat of your own drummer as they say – following your own star, living your own authentic life.

In ancient times the astrologers WERE the astronomers.  It’s nice to see scientists admitting that they don’t have all the answers!

Now posted! Planetary Illuminations for December 2015

December 2015 horoscopes From DeviantArt

December’s planetary forecast is now up and you can read the entire article here.  Many of my readers find the terminology in these articles confusing, and for them I have a special version translated into simpler language that is easy to understand.  If you’re not on this mailing list and would like to be, you can sign up in the sidebar.

Meanwhile here is an overview of the major planetary events for December.

While the exact square (challenging 90 degree angle) of Uranus in a square to Pluto is over, the two planets are still within two degrees of that exact square and will continue to be in tight formation through April of 2016.  (If this is new to you, please see the explanation in the sidebar.)  This means that the intense pressure for change that we have seen since 2010 will remain in effect for the next five months or so as the old structures which have been broken down (Pluto in Capricorn) struggle to find new forms that best express our own authentic individuality (Uranus in Aries).

During the first 10 days of December the Sun and Mars, both fast moving planets that often serve to trigger larger alignments, will “translate” the Uranus/Pluto square and potentially set off any areas of our lives that require a shift.

Uranus is particularly powerful now because it is stationary, appearing to stand still in the sky, as it prepares to change direction.  Uranus has been retrograde since July and has only traveled a few degrees since May, so if like me you are undergoing a personal transit of Uranus you still have a ways to go before it completes its work.

When a planet is stationary in the sky […]

My Thanksgiving Blogiversary (Tenth!!) and random thoughts

AM on Blogger Happy Thanksgiving dear friends!  It was ten years ago today that my sister helped me start this blog while she was visiting me for Thanksgiving vacation.

As an astrologer, I see the world through the astrological lens and wanted to share that viewpoint with whoever happened to stop by and visit.  At the same time I wanted to demonstrate to a larger audience that astrology is more than so-called “horoscopes” and sun signs.  Over the years so many people have told me that it was my blog that started their path of astrological study, and I can’t tell you how gratifying that is.

For seven or eight years I managed to post nearly every single day – finding interesting news pieces or philosophical ideas to frame within the astrological lens.  Over the past couple of years I have had a more difficult time keeping up the inspiration for that daily writing, and this year for the first time I took long breaks between posts.  I attribute much of this to the fact that I am in the middle of a Very Big Uranus Transit, the kind that happens only every 21 years or so.  It was during the last Very Big Uranus Transit in 1992-3 when I first started writing my monthly planetary column which I then called Skywatch and which is now posted as Planetary Illuminations.  At the time a monthly astrology column which was not a sun sign horoscope column was pretty rare.

Uranus urges us to break free of routines that no longer work for us, and under his influence (he has been virtually stationary sitting right on an already Uranian system in my chart since May and will be there through March) I have been reassessing […]

Happy Samhain/Hallowe’en/Day of the Dead!

Those who decry Hallowe’en as a pagan holiday are, of course, correct!  In medieval Europe the pagan (country) people celebrated the the midpoint of the fixed signs as periods of power.  These times correspond to the fixed signs of Aquarius (Brigid in February), Taurus (Beltane in May), Leo (Lugh in August) and Samhain (pronounced Sow’en) in November for Scorpio.  These times exactly between the solstices and equinoxes, at the 15% point of the fixed signs, and are called the “cross-quarter” days.
At Samhain it is said that the veils between the worlds grow thin, and it becomes easier to communicate with the souls of loved ones who have passed on.  They are also more easily able to offer advice, and divination is a key part of Samhain festivals even today.  Samhain marks the beginning of the dark half of the year, after the balance of light and dark at the equinox.
The actual festival of Samhain this year is November 7th because this is when the Sun reaches 15 degrees Scorpio.  The festival of Hallowe’en (All Hallows Eve) corresponds to All Saints Day in the Catholic church which celebrates the dead, but only those who have been beatified.  The rest of the dead are celebrated on All Souls Day on November 2.
In Latin America there is a similar festival called the Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos which corresponds to the Catholic festivals.  Similar festivals are held in Spain and in Brazil, and presumably derived from the adaptation by the Catholic Church of the Samhain festival.
Astrologically, the entry of the Sun into Scorpio in the northern hemispheres marks the return of the dark time, where we are drawn into the darkness of our own psyche to […]
