I’ve been writing quite a bit about the Black Moon Lilith and its relevance to the Me Too movement and sexual abuse.  The Black Moon Lilith is an interesting astrological symbol – not a planet or an asteroid (there IS a Lilith asteroid but that is a different matter entirely), the BML is a focal point between the earth and the farthest point of the lunar orbit (see this earlier article for more details).

The origin of the Lilith story is obscured in the midst of time, but the archetype of Lilith, Adam’s first wife, is that of an oversexed female who demands equality and refuses to be dominated by Adam. With the help of Yahweh, Adam sends her out to the wilderness without her children (later she is said to have killed her children but I believe that is just bad press) and she then becomes the model for the succubus – a female demon who sucks away the life force of men.  So we have a heady brew of scary female sexuality combined with independence and resistance to the patriarchy.

For the past few years I’ve been experimenting with the Black Moon Lilith, and when she shows up prominently in a woman’s chart (as she does in mine) there seems to be a continuum of experiences that range from at the minimum a strong desire to help and defend other women, to a severe hatred of men.  Men whose charts show a prominent Black Moon Lilith are often both fascinated and repulsed by strong and powerful women, depending on other placements in their chart.

So it’s no surprise that the Black Moon Lilith has shown up in the charts of those […]

Are economists the new astrologers?

has been circulating through the financial news for the past year or so that equates economists with astrologers because, its author argues, both are pseudosciences.  Ironically, the argument given is that economists were not able to predict the 2008 economic crash:

The failure of the field to predict the 2008 crisis has … been well-documented. In 2003, for example, only five years before the Great Recession, the Nobel Laureate Robert E Lucas Jr  the American Economic Association that ‘macroeconomics […] has succeeded: its central problem of depression prevention has been solved’.

The irony is that astrologers DID predict the 2008 crisis, and were not surprised when it occurred.  Unfortunately though, while astrology can reveal the general climate of what the future may bring, there is no way to predict specific events either in our personal lives or in a global economy. Since the 2008 crisis both economists AND astrologers have predicted a correction, or a crash – yet the global economic condition continues to expand.

I like this quote from Paul Krugman in the article cited above:

‘As I see it,’ he wrote, ‘the economics profession went astray because economists, as a group, mistook beauty, clad in impressive-looking mathematics, for truth.’ Krugman named economists’ ‘desire… to show off their mathematical prowess’ as the ‘central cause of the profession’s failure’.

Math is an abstraction, but can it be used to predict human behavior?  I think astrologers often make the same mistake.  We have these marvelous symbols, “beauty, clad in impressive-looking mathematics,”  and now an abundance of ancient techniques to predict the future.  And yes, a few times those techniques for prediction have succeeded – but so will flipping a coin 50% of the time.

When astrology […]

Astrological advice: When will Jupiter bring me my ideal relationship?

astrological adviceEach week I answer a reader question using their astrological chart.  Because this service is designed to help as many people as possible, preference is given to questions which will have benefit and interest others.  If you have a burning question you think others will share, please email me and it will be considered!

Q:
Jupiter has been transiting my seventh house since October 2017, I was expecting for a relationship to appear in my life. I was sure that just like Meghan Markle fell into Harry’s life, someone would fall into mine and vice versa. So I have been going to parties, pubs, weddings, meetings… any invitation I am saying yes (just like Jim Carrey in Yes Man movie), but nothing -besides drunk men- falls on my lap.

Jupiter is about to move to my 8th house and I am worried -frightened, indeed- that I will end up missing that experience in this life. I really want to marry and have a family of my own… but it looks like  no matter what I do, no matter where I go… I end up the same. I am up to the point where I am tired and just want to curl in my bed… I hate loud places, I hate going to parties where I am stalked by married men, I hate going to the beach to be asked by kids half my age, but I am scared that if I don’t, I will be missing this opportunity.

What are your thoughts on this? what piece of advice/light could you give me on this? Are my expectations on Jupiter wrong or too high?

A:

When I was single for about nine years after my divorce I too watched the passages of […]

Sunday inspiration from “Love Letter to the Earth”

From Thich Nhat Hanh comes these beautiful words. We are a living, breathing manifestation of the Earth.

I believe this is our solution. Science can’t fix the problem any longer. It’s bigger than that. It must come from a shift in our humanity.
At this very moment, the Earth is above you, below you, all around you, and even inside you.

The Earth is everywhere. You may be used to thinking of the Earth as the ground beneath your feet. But the water, the sea, the sky, and everything around us comes from the Earth. Everything outside us and everything inside us comes from the Earth. We often forget that the planet we are living on has given us all the elements that make up our bodies. The water in our flesh, our bones, and all the microscopic cells inside our bodies all come from the Earth and are part of the Earth. The Earth is not just the environment we live in. We are the Earth and we always carry her within us.

Realizing this, we can see that the Earth is truly alive. We are a living, breathing manifestation of this beautiful and generous planet. Knowing this we can begin to transform our relationship to the Earth. We can begin to walk differently and care for her differently. We will fall completely in love with the Earth. When we are in love with someone or something, there is no separation between ourselves and the person or thing that we love. We do whatever we can for them and this brings us great joy and nourishment. That is the relationship each of us can have with the Earth. That is the relationship each of us must have with the Earth […]

Saturn trine Uranus, an opportunity for creative thought

Technically, the the harmonious dance between the planets Saturn (structure, responsibility, achievement) and Uranus (innovation, new pathways to change) began in December of 2016 and completed in November of 2017.  But this week the two planets reconnect and come as close to the trine as they will come for quite some time – within 13 minutes of a degree around August 24th and 25th.

A trine is a harmonious interaction between two planets – when planets form a trine aspect we tend to see the best of those planets, rather than their most challenging attributes.

Saturn is grounded and practical and urges us to apply focus and discipline to get the job done.  Uranus, an outer transformational planet, inspires us to break free of Saturnian limits and shatter the paradigms of limitation.  This harmonious combination  brings inspiration and an ability to think outside the box while being able to remain organized and focused, which can help us in all kinds of ways, from expanding a spiritual practice to creating a new business venture. It is especially useful in opening doorways to multidimensional thought and creative inspiration.

Any type of visualization is perfect for this harmonious alignment which will be in effect until early September and possibly a bit beyond as the two planets begin to separate.  This beautiful interplay of planetary energies is the strongest influence in the sky right now, and a real gift after a stressful planetary summer!
