Mercury retrograde and New Moon in Pisces, March 5-28, 2019

New Moon PiscesThere’s a lot to unpack this week!

Mercury has just turned retrograde. (For a little more detail, check out the video linked below.) Mercury turns retrograde three or four times a year, and travels retrograde for about 21 days each time. Because Mercury’s domain includes the mind, learning and communication but also trips of short duration and the technology which facilitates communication, Mercury is not always at its best when appearing to travel retrograde. If this is new to you, or if you’d like more information, please visit this more definitive article on Mercury retrograde and its shadow period.

For those of you who are easily overwhelmed by astrological language, let me give you the short and sweet version of this information: During the month of March, give up your ideas of trying to focus and create something durable. The planetary influences in March are focused in the archetype of Pisces which, while imaginative and creative, tends to cause our thinking to be a bit more fuzzy and communication more confusing. Just be aware that during these three weeks, and for a few days before and after, it will be important to try to maintain as much clarity as possible. This time is very well suited, however, for creative projects and anything involving a quest for an inward experience.

Mercury has been in Pisces since February 10th and reached the 29th degree before the retrograde station. The 29th degree, sometimes called the “critical” or “anaretic” degree, is associated with the endings of cycles and new beginnings. The word “anaretic” derives from “anareta,” which in medieval astrology signified the planet of death in the natal horoscope. This is likely what has given the 29th degree such […]

The astrology of Multiple Sclerosis, 2019 edition

astrology of multiple sclerosisClients and longtime readers of this blog know that I have a special interest in the way the energy of an astrological chart manifests in health problems and I have written before about the correlation to a compromised Mars placement and various autoimmune diseases.   Disclaimer:  I have no medical training and any medical information that appears in this blog contains only my own hypothetical beliefs and should not in any way be construed as medical advice.

The astrological role of Mars is to energize us and provide defense for the personality.  Mars is known as the planet of war, but also motivates and inspires and can be brought to rage and anger if we are thwarted.  Many of us are afraid of anger, both in ourselves and others, and we often repress our own rage and/or find it difficult to defend ourselves when necessary.  How well we are predisposed to deal with matters of war and action and courage is demonstrated by the placement of Mars in the astrological chart.  When Mars in the astrological chart is debilitated or blocked, the frustration and anger can build up in the body’s energetic system and emerge in a variety of health issues.  Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis – I have seen all of these issues, as well as multiple sclerosis, in clients with a compromised Mars in their charts.

Multiple sclerosis is classified as an autoimmune disease – a disease in which the immune system attacks the body and the body is unable to defend itself against the attack.  You can easily see the correspondence between Mars and this definition – there is an attack and a lack of defense, both are Mars factors.  I have written before on […]

Michael Cohen and the US Pluto return

I realize that political posts can generate a great deal of animosity.  I will attempt to be as unbiased as possible in my political posts and stick to the astrology, but it’s likely that some bias will slip through.

I have been writing a lot about the upcoming return of Pluto to its place in the astrological chart for the United States, and if you’re an avid consumer of astrological news you have probably read about this elsewhere as well.  Planetary returns (such as the Saturn return with which you might be familiar) are important cycles of change and evolution.  There are lunar returns every month, solar returns every year, Mars returns every two plus years, Saturn returns every 29 years, Uranus returns every 84 years, etc. and each type of return has a different quality and brings an emphasis on the agenda of that planet to the individual.

Because Pluto takes about 248 years to orbit the earth, humans do not experience Pluto returns.  However, nations can experience a Pluto return although very few national governments last that long.  The astrological chart for a nation is always a matter of hot debate among astrologers but that is a matter for another post.  Despite the debate on the specifics of which chart to use for the US, there is certainly agreement that we are heading into a time when the US will experience its first Pluto return after 248 years.

Astrologers have been speculating as to what this will mean.  The end of the US constitution?  The breakdown of the economic system, since Pluto occupies the second house of money in the most commonly used chart for the US?  Civil war?  So it was particularly chilling […]

Astrological forecast including Mercury retrograde: February 25-March 3, 2019

astrology forecastPrefer video?  Link is below.  This week we prepare for the first retrograde turn of Mercury for the year.  (If this is a new or forgotten concept for you please visit this article which will give you all the information you need.)   Mercury is associated with the mind and communication, and retrograde periods are important times for reflection and re-assessment and are not typically well-suited for  beginning something new.  They can sometimes be ideal for surgery to remove or repair, but it’s generally a good idea to avoid signing contracts during Mercury retrograde periods.

We also sometimes find communication and equipment glitches during Mercury retrograde times.  Mistaken appointment times, errors in calendar items, incorrect billing – these are all normal when Mercury is retrograde.  There is a brief “shadow period” before and after the actual retrograde (March 5th through 28th) during which the movement of Mercury slows down before changing direction during which we sometimes see the retrograde effects as well.

Mercury turns retrograde at the last degree of Pisces, stimulating the imagination and our yearning for an experience of soul.  For much of its retrograde passage Mercury will travel in tandem with Neptune, the modern ruler of Pisces which will enhance and amplify the magical and dreamy qualities but also potentially the more negative Neptune/Pisces qualities of confusion and illusion.  Mercury will also be influenced by Venus during the last part of the retrograde, assisting our creativity to blossom and unfold with great potency.

The 27th brings some positive solar energy and activation, but on the 28th, the last day of the month, you will want to make an extra effort to take care of yourself as on that day it is possible to keep going […]
