“Don’t let astrology support a life of fear”

Many years ago I posted a link this article by astrologer that mirrors my feelings on this issue EXACTLY!!  Unfortunately the original article has disappeared, but the truth remains.

I have a pet peeve, and like most pet peeves perhaps, it’s a bit hypocritical. My pet peeve is people who use astrology (or anything else really) to support a life run by fear. I’ve read that Nancy Reagan used to consult an astrologer before her husband did anything and wouldn’t let him do things like sign legislation unless an astrologer gave the okay–which meant he sometimes ended up doing things at odd hours like 1:59 a.m. I don’t know if she actually did this, but just reading about it irritates me. It irritates me because it strikes me as operating out of a combination of fear, dependence, and an excessive need for control. . . .

Life happens, and life includes bad, scary, challenging or even exhilarating twists of fate. You can’t control the entire universe with astrology or anything else. Life happened to Ronald and Nancy Reagan, just as it does to everyone else. His presidency had its challenges and its triumphs, just as other presidencies do. If credit is to be given for the success of his presidency, I’d rather give it to a combination of his character, his ideas, and his willingness to act on them. . . .

It’s the same thing when I hear astrologers say things like “don’t get a haircut or buy shoes when the moon is void of course!” Something in me just says “I’ll buy shoes and get a haircut whenever I darn well please. I can’t live my life running around checking to see whether […]

Astrology this week: April 8-15, including Jupiter turning retrograde

Image from Nasa, by Tim Pyle

The planetary influences this week should have a calming influence to soothe jangled nerves.  Last week’s Aries New Moon helped to kickstart new beginnings, and Pluto bumped up against the South Node of the past to trigger an old pattern to emerge in order to be resolved.

This week we have an alignment of Venus with Neptune, opening the heart to a higher dimension of love.  I think of Neptune as the “higher octave” of Venus – where Venus is a personal planet with the gift of love, attraction and a sense for beauty and aesthetics, Neptune is a transformational planet that inspires the heart to open for a more universal compassion and awareness.  Venus also harmonizes with stable Saturn on the 12th, and with Pluto on the 14th.  This will be a harmonious week for our relationships with others, but also for our own integration of affection into our own hearts.

We often think of relationships as being external to ourselves, but in some ways our relationships are simply a mirror of how we feel about ourselves.  The Venus placement in the natal chart describes, among other things, how we relate to others but also our own values and the way in which we view our ability to attract, not only partners but also success and abundance in life.  Venus in transit as it moves through the sky helps us to learn more about softening the hard edges so that we can be more open to the force of attraction that comes from within.  It moves quickly and its influence is fleeting, so we must be aware and respond quickly!

Jupiter turns retrograde at some point each year, and this year it will be […]

Who is Alexandria Ocasio Cortez? The astrological profile

Embed from Getty Images

This was originally posted in January 2019 but has been updated to reflect the availability of her birth time.  Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was recently elected to the US House of Representatives from the 14th District of New York – the youngest woman ever to be elected to Congress.  Not only that, she is in the middle of her first Saturn Return.

The Saturn Return happens to each of us every 28-30 years when Saturn, traveling through its orbit around the Sun, returns to the degree of the sign that it holds in our natal astrological chart.  Because Saturn represents the virtues of hard work and achievement as well as the distress of tests and challenges, the Saturn Return is an important time and one in which we are often tested with experiences that may feel outside of our control.  But the Saturn Return can also be a time of great achievement and growth.  This is the period during which we realize that we have to grow up and start adulting, and this process is more comfortable for some than for others.  Some individuals find this too difficult, flaming out in their careers and shifting to another path, while some begin to achieve success during this time.

Recently I wrote about this crop of Saturn Return people who were born during the early 1990s when Uranus, Saturn and Neptune were all conjunct in Capricorn.  Here is an important takeaway from that article:

These periods can be very difficult, but for Saturn/Capricorn people they have the potential to be life changing in highly beneficial ways.  Many of the Capricorn stellium people, with the dreamy genius of Uranus/Neptune in their charts, have had difficulty coming to terms with the duality in their personalities between the creative inspiration of […]

Astrological news for the week of April 1, 2019 including South Node activation

The first week of April could be a bit confusing, especially between the 1st and the 3rd of April.  With four planets in mystical and magical Pisces, the focus is more on imagination and illumination than practical matters.  Mercury has turned direct, but it conjoins Neptune on the 2nd and the two are intertwined for several days afterwards. This period is wonderful for creativity and spiritual exploration but maybe wait until at least the 5th of April before making decisions that require a lot of careful thought and consideration.

Meanwhile, transformational Pluto triggers the South Node to activate the undoing of karma.  When this transit (culminating April 4th) occurs in the chart of an individual, we often find an eruption of an old pattern that hits us in the face as we realize a change needs to happen.  When this transit occurs globally, as it does every 19 years or so (the last Pluto alignment with the South Node occurred in Sagittarius in 2002), there is a purge of collective karma – an eruption and release of the past to enable passage into the present and future.  If Pluto is currently transiting your own chart, this will affect you more personally than others who are not individually triggered by Pluto at the moment.  Saturn and the South Node will complete the dance at the end of the month, making this a month-long adventure in cleaning up the past.  Even if you are not personally activated by this event, you might as well join in and clean out the metaphoric basement of your psyche: old patterns, toxic relationships, outmoded beliefs.

This could bring up some emotional pain between April 1st and the 6th or so as Mars (aggression and motivation) challenges […]

My plan to revamp the US Healthcare system and add 14 years to your life!

This article was originally posted in 2008 and has been updated.

Under this week’s retrograde Mercury in Pisces, which has attached itself to travel companion Neptune over the next week, the William Barr Justice Department under President Trump has recommended repeal of the Affordable Care Act, generating a s*&#storm of panic and anxiety in the hearts of Americans.

The problem as I see it, though, is that the American healthcare system is completely broken.  It doesn’t really matter how healthcare is paid for – the system is based on profit and corrupt at its core.  It needs to be completely rebuilt.  Pluto, the planet of destruction and regeneration, is in the US second house of money and finance.  There has been a great deal of discussion among astrologers concerning how the US Pluto return over the next few years would affect the country, and perhaps this would be a good place to start.  Healthcare spending in the US was $17.9B in 2017, or $10,739 per person. as the average of other comparable first world countries (only Switzerland comes close).

Maintaining five healthy habits — eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, keeping a healthy body weight, not drinking too much alcohol, and not smoking — during adulthood may add more than a decade to life expectancy, according to a new study led by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Researchers also found that American women and men who maintained the healthiest lifestyles were 82 percent less likely to die from cardiovascular disease and 65 percent less likely to die from cancer when compared with those with the least healthy lifestyles over the course of the roughly […]
