Astrological Musings

Sunday inspiration

I haven’t posted anything inspirational for awhile, and in light of the drama unfolding in Japan I thought perhaps today would be a good day to do so.

This morning I used music by Douglas Spotted Eagle in my yoga practice and it reminded me of the tragedies that form the underpinning of the (mostly) comfortable life we have in the United States today.  Yet the Native American people possessed such natural wisdom and grace, despite the decimation of their population.

In their honor, I offer you  wisdom from Chief White Eagle of the Ponca tribe who died in 1914.

When you are in doubt, be still, and wait;
when doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward with courage.
So long as mists envelop you, be still;
be still until the sunlight pours through and dispels the mists
— as it surely will.
Then act with courage.

Ponca Chief White Eagle (1800’s to 1914)

And now, earthquakes and tsunamis

Anyone who has been reading this blog will remember that when Pluto (the destroyer/renewer) entered Capricorn, the Earth sign of material stability, I (and other astrologers) predicted that when Uranus, the planet of radical change, entered Aries and began to form a challenging square to Pluto that earthquakes, pole shifts and other earth changes were likely to occur.

Right on schedule, with Uranus entering Aries today, the largest earthquake ever to hit Japan (8.9 magnitude) struck today, resulting in a tsunami that swept across the Pacific and forced evacuations in California and the entire west coast of the United States.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Mount Karangetang also erupted today, just hours after the earthquake in Japan, and that “resting” volcanoes can wake up much more quickly than previously believed possible.  Uranus can be fairy explosive in its actions, and in the fiery sign of Aries is associated with volcanoes and other explosions of fire.

Not only has Uranus just entered Aries, the has been at a high level of 5 for the past 24 hours.  The Planetary K index measures the level of geomagnetic activity, and an elevated K-index can bring about disturbances not only in satellite equipment, but also in the electromagnetic fields with which we are surrounded and in which we live.  So if you are feeling somewhat scattered today it’s probably not your imagination!

Day of Rage in Saudi, just as Uranus enters Aries

Could the timing be more synchronistic?  Uranus enters Aries on Friday March 11, and a Day of Rage wave of protests is planned for Saudi Arabia on that day.  Aries is the sign that is ruled by Mars, the god of warfare and aggression.  Aries teaches courage and assertiveness, and Uranus rules radical change and the breaking down of the status quo.  Uranus in Aries is a combustible mix!

You may remember when Jupiter moved into Aries and triggered protests across North Africa.  Then when Jupiter moved into a challenging square alignment with Pluto, the planet of power and control, a Day of Rage was declared in Iraq and other mideast countries.

I’ll be writing more about Uranus entering Aries over the next few days.

Are we headed for another financial bubble?

Uranus will change signs this week, moving into Aries on Friday March 11th. Because Uranus rules sudden changes and shocking events, when it changes direction or changes signs it often signifies a radical shift in financial markets.

With the stock market reaching historic gains, some analysts are debating that we are approaching another bubble, and others argue that the market is more normal now after two years of artificially low prices.

The shift from Uranus into Aries is likely to bring with it a surge of courage that will infect everything in our lives with an increased proclivity to take risks.  Unlike Jupiter and Sagittarius, which imbue us with confidence and faith that all will end well, Uranus desires change and in Aries that change comes with an aggressive quality that thrives on danger.  I suspect we will see the return of day trading and this sort of investment behavior that almost invariably spells trouble.

The surge of Uranus in Aries will be followed by the confusion of Neptune’s movement into Pisces a few weeks later (April 5).  With Neptune in its own sign, the way will not seem as clear and one’s idealistic vision will appear more real than what the mind knows to be true.  Neptune’s last journey through Pisces (1848-1862) coincided with the California Gold Rush, in which “gold fever” swept the nation.

If I were giving financial advice, which I am not, I would continue to recommend being extremely prudent under these influences.  I personally believe that the danger of a global collapse is probably behind us, but the danger of becoming infected with illusion is probably not. Stable investments in tangible assets such as metals, actual real estate (rather than REITs), companies that […]

Looking forward: The transformation of 2012

Looking back to understand the future.

No matter what you think about the controversy over the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012, there is no question that this is a significant time in human history.  As I write this, a wave of revolutionary fervor is spreading throughout North Africa and the Middle East, and in the United States frustrated workers are taking to the streets in protest against a political structure that favors banks and corporations and strips individuals of their economic rights.

It would be easy to think that perhaps the world really IS coming to an end if you weren’t following the astrological trends.  These trends provide a context for these world events and offer clues to help us to make sense of them as well as the changes that are occurring in our own lives.  The interrelationships of the planets as they circle the Sun help us to define periods of cyclic change that will encourage personal growth and global balance.  Depending upon the nature of the individual planet, areas of life which are out of balance will be highlighted and will require that we make some sort of adjustment in order to achieve a harmonious state in our lives.

In order to understand the nature of the changes that are coming, we must travel back in time to the beginning of 2008 when Pluto entered Capricorn.  As the planet that governs destruction and regeneration as well as revelations about the dark side of human character, Pluto has a transformative effect on the issues of any sign that it travels through.  Pluto’s journey through its own sign of Scorpio witnessed revelations of sexual abuse and the HIV epidemic  (death through sex) which […]
