The astrology of Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders astrologyBernie Sanders is an unusual choice for a presidential candidate.  He would be the oldest person to be elected president of the United States.  He is Jewish, and an avowed socialist.  He has no handlers and no PACs, and he is virtually ignored by mainstream media.  Yet he is gaining support in unexpected places – from liberals of course, but also from independents and even evangelicals who resonated with his speech at Liberty University.

One has to wonder why, after a long and illustrious career in Congress, does Sanders suddenly want to be President?  Perhaps a look at the astrological influences can add some insight.

Bernie Sanders (September 8, 1941, Brooklyn NY, time unknown) was born with the Sun in Virgo, the sign of service and humility.  His Sun is conjunct the North lunar Node, the point that shows us the way towards our future destiny.  Sun/North Node people typically have a sense from childhood that they have a special mission to fulfill – a particular path to walk.

We don’t know Sanders’ ascendant (rising sign) without a time of birth, but his Aries Moon shows his fiery and passionate nature, especially since is Moon aligns with Mars, the planet that energizes and motivates us, but which also adds an aggressive quality to the chart.  This is especially true because Mars is in Aries, its own sign, which essentially doubles the intensity of the assertive quality.

The Mars/Aries dynamic quality is out of sync with the humility of Virgo, and finding a way to balance those two forces has likely been one of the themes of Sanders’ life.  Sanders’ chart lacks the water element which often suggests an individual for whom empathy and compassion is difficult.  Yet he has Mercury (communication) in peace-loving […]

A change of focus as the lunar nodes change signs

futureThe Nodes of the Moon are not planets – they are purely mathematical points that show where the path of the Moon crosses the path of the Sun (called the “ecliptic”).  The North, or ascending, node acts as a signpost to guide us into the future – it points the way for our soul’s evolutionary growth.  The South, or descending, node is a signpost from the past.  Through the South Node we release people, places and things which we carry with us that are no longer needed.

Some traditional and Vedic astrologers see the South Node as being “malefic,” or a “debility” and in fact, the energies around the South Node often hold us back.  They show where we are most comfortable and sometimes they show aspects of past lives which we have brought into this one in order to heal and evolve.

The North and South Nodes are always in opposite signs, reflecting the polarity of the astrological pantheon, and they change signs approximately every eighteen months or so.  On October 9th the mean calculation for the North Node will move from Libra into Virgo.  Some astrologers use the “true node” which will change signs on November 11th

(One of many things astrologers argue over is whether to use the “mean node” or the “true node.”  Steven Forrest has written a which I can’t improve upon for you astrology geeks.)

When the North Node changes signs there is a shift in focus for all humanity, and the North Node moving into Virgo signifies a greater awareness of our responsibility to others, our connection to the food that nourishes us, and the organizational details that are required for life on Planet Earth.  At the same time we are required […]

October 2015 Planetary Illuminations (astrological forecast) now posted

October astrological forecastIf you are on my mailing list you will soon receive your simplified version written in plain English that is easy to understand.  You can read the whole article here, and I’ve summarized the major events for you below.  I believe that we will find the intensity of the past few months beginning to subside as we move out of eclipse season and the disturbances of the major planetary alignments and begin to find our footing.

This summer has seen a heightened level of planetary energies culminating with the September eclipse series and the SuperMoon eclipse at the end of September.  As we move into the month of October we will find ourselves in completion mode as Mercury prepares to turns direct on October 9th.  These retrograde periods are meant for reflection and offer an opportunity to reboot all of our life systems, and once they are completed it becomes easier to move our lives forward in a more positive direction.

The only major planetary alignment to occur in October is a harmonious trine from Jupiter (expansion, positivity) to Pluto (transformation, new beginnings) on October 11th.  Both planets are in earth signs where there is a more practical application of the energies which assists us in making real changes, especially helpful after years of upheaval.  We must reimagine our lives now in completely new ways and continue to let go of the past.  As we continue to evolve into the Age of Aquarius our psyches and nervous systems are being continually rewired to adapt to the new energies.

The North Node retrogrades back into Virgo on October 10th (using the Mean, or averaged, Node – astrologers who use the True Node will have a different […]

The astrology of current financial markets

bulls-bearsThe other day I wrote about the push and pull between the expansiveness of Jupiter merged with the detailed practicality of Virgo (Jupiter is currently in Virgo) that coincides with the transit of Saturn (structure and cold hard reality) through Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius (expansive optimism).  The collision of our dreams and fantasies with the real world is not always easy and we are seeing this kind of roiling in the financial markets today.

Of course there are economic realities apart from the astrology that are affecting the markets: primarily the fact that with interest rates approaching zero there are few other places for investors to put their money.  There is also the fact that the “quantitative easing” has flooded the market with cash to artificially inflate the situation.  And it doesn’t help that the Fed has not clarified whether or not to raise interest rates.

Still, the astrological backdrop made the current upheaval in the market easy to product.  The summer Venus (representing our values and wealth as well as love and relationships)  retrograde began a shift from the rather robust optimism to a reconsideration of the realities on the ground.  Now we have Mercury retrograde as well as a Jupiter (optimism) opposition to Neptune (fantasy) that refuses to see things as they really are but rather prefers the world of ideals and magic.

Underlying these more fleeting influences is the fact that Pluto is still in the responsible sign of Capricorn where fluff is not tolerated and restriction becomes the rule rather than the exception.  As long as Pluto remains in Capricorn (through 2023) it will be crucial to keep our eyes open and not be swayed by fantastic claims that appear too good to be true.

The final Blood Moon occurs this week – end of the world?

peanuts(hint:  probably not!!)

As I wrote last week, the upcoming Full Moon this weekend is not only a (occurring when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth and therefore wields a more powerful influence) but also a Blood Moon eclipse (so called because of the red color that infuses the Moon during the eclipse.  It is also the final event of a Lunar Tetrad – a group of four total eclipses that occur within a six month period (read this earlier article for all the details).

(Geeky astro detail:  a lunar event is said to be an eclipse when the soli/lunar relationship (Sun and Moon) aligns with the lunar nodes.  When the alignment to the nodes is very tight the eclipse becomes a total eclipse and is more powerful astrologically.  The lunar nodes represent the flow of life from past to future, and eclipses therefore carry with them the ability to create profound change in our fate and our destiny.

points out that in the 21st century we have had a fair number of total eclipses, but this has not always been the case.

“During the 21st century, there are 8 sets of tetrads, so I would describe tetrads as a frequent occurrence in the current pattern of lunar eclipses,” says Espenak. “But this has not always been the case. During the three hundred year interval from 1600 to 1900, for instance, there were no tetrads at all.”

The evangelical rumor mill has jumped on the bandwagon, claiming that at the end of this current Tetrad the world will end, or Christ will return, depending on who you read.  Some writers have linked their conspiracy theories to the fact that these […]
