“When will we see the end of these difficult planetary cycles?”

planetary cyclesSomeone left this question in a comment recently, and I quite frequently hear this question from clients.  It’s a difficult one to answer because there are so many layers of planetary cycles that begin on the personal level with your own astrological chart that is affected by planetary movements.  Then we have the astrological chart of the nation in which we live that undergoes planetary cycles which affect the political landscape.  Expanding even further, we have the dances of the slower moving planets including Saturn, Chiron, and the outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

Not everyone is affected by planetary cycles in the same way – human behavior is difficult to predict since it depends so much on the choices that we make.  Still, this Uranus/Pluto cycle that we have been going through since 2010 is one of the most difficult because of the degree of change that it brings about.

While the Uranus/Pluto cycle is technically over, it is being kept alive this year by Jupiter which is bouncing back and forth between squares to Pluto and oppositions to Uranus, “translating” and re-connecting the Uranus/Pluto conflict and maintaining a level of tension that requires adaptation and synthesis.

Still, there are always harmonious cycles flowing through the most challenging of planetary alignments that provide support and encouragement.  A harmonious trine from  Saturn (discipline and focus) and Uranus (innovation and radical change) could help to facilitate the changes and new patterns that are necessary in order to recreate our world in the new ways that are required for the future.  Under this aspect the structures that we build under Saturn are energized by the ingenuity of Uranus.  This aspect tends to make the idea of change seem more exciting than frightening […]

Happy Chinese New Year! It’s the Year of the Rooster

63000149 - chinese new year backgroundI don’t know much about Chinese astrology, but I do know it’s more involved than just assigning an animal totem to everyone born in the same lunar year.  I found which used my day and year as well as time to calculate a few more details about my signs in the Chinese system.  I’ve always known I was born under the year of the Dragon, which sounds very cool until I discover that I’m actually a white rabbit born in the year of the Dragon.  Not quite so impressive!  I was unable to find any site that explains what the white rabbit means, but the “rise and fall of your life” suggests that my best years will be between ages 60 and 80 so that’s encouraging.

But I digress! The Year of the Rooster (which apparently is gender neutral in the Chinese language) could bring these qualities according to :

The Rooster, the tenth Chinese zodiac sign, gives the year that just begins some of the characteristics of the bird it has as a symbol: ambition, pride, the desire to be admired, punctuality, courage, passion and a well-developed disposition for love and seduction. At the same time, during the year that has just started, an increase in enthusiasm, perseverance and auto-control will be felt. The relationships between people will be under the sign of great honesty.

We will all prove to have more passion in life, especially regarding work, where we will not hesitate to roll up our sleeves in order to reach our objectives. “Always higher, always going on” is the motto of the Rooster and it will inspire all of us. Braver than usually, we […]

Sunday inspiration: We’ve come a long way, baby

The Age of Cancer, approximately 6000-8000 bce, was marked by the rise of agriculture as a more reliable means to feed humanity than simple hunting and gathering.  The Moon, ruler of the nurturing and sign Cancer, became elevated to goddess stature and we begin to see cults of the “Mother Goddess” and fertility cults.  With people beginning to settle into homes and communities, paternity could not be established but maternity could, so the lines of family origin were traced through the mother.  This matrilinear culture persisted through the Age of Gemini (approximately 4000-6000 bce) which continued the establishment of communities and language, and into the age of Taurus (approximately 2000-4000 bce)

Under the influence of the warlike Age of Aries (approximately 2000 bce to the beginning of the common era) the concept of monotheism arose and with it a more patriarchal warrior society to defend the single god.  The role of women became diminished (they are hardly mentioned in the Hebrew bible) and while societies remained matrineal in nature they were ruled by men and dependent on them economically.

This continued through the Piscean age (approximately 0-2100 ce) with the rise of the ancient Church and its denigration of sexuality and emphasis on the idea that any man born from woman is born in sin. While some women rose to power through family connections it was a relatively rare thing and women held no government positions unless they were of royal blood.  They were unable to attend school and were subservient to their male relatives.  If they attempted to take on too much power in their societies they were looked on suspiciously and for about 300 years burned as […]

All about the latest astrology: An Overview

astrology of 2017Looking for a listing of all planetary events for 2017?  You will find it here.

The magic of astrology operates on a variety of different levels – at the microcosmic levels the movement of the planets affect our daily lives and define the trends that mark our passage through time.  Those periods where we feel like everything is difficult?  A Saturn cycle.  The times when everything falls out of our grasp and we are forced to start anew whether we like it or not?  Blame it on Pluto.

We are also affected on a global level, especially by the dance of the slower moving outer planets.  The passage of Pluto into Capricorn in 2008 marked a contraction in global thinking and economies, and the entrance of Uranus into Aries in 2010 sent a fever of revolutionary fervor around the world.  The conflict between Pluto and Uranus between 2010 and 2017 has overseen political crises at a level not seen since the last Pluto/Uranus dance in the 1960s.  Read more about this cycle here and here.

Uranus square Pluto, and Jupiter

The Pluto/Uranus cycle breaks down the established order of things, especially when there is weakness in the structures on which society depends.  Planetary cycles don’t simply destroy for the fun of it: they tend to reveal areas of our lives where things are not working as well as they should be.  Attention is required during these times so that we can determine how best to utilize these energies of great change.

Uranus and Pluto are no longer in an exact aspect, but Jupiter is interacting with each of them and acting as an intermediary to trigger the incendiary energy to activate more change.  This […]
