June Planetary Illuminations now posted

Found on YeatsVision.com Found on YeatsVision.com

I am running a bit behind this month!  Blame it on Mercury retrograde and a big Uranus transit that I will write about soon.  You can read the article in its entirety here, and if you are on my mailing list you will soon receive your report with a translation of the planetary events into easy to understand language.

Here is the introduction discussing the main planetary events in June.

June begins with Mercury (ruling the mind, the mental realm and communication) still in retrograde, and this has been a difficult one for many people.  It began with a square from Mercury to Saturn, and because Mercury is in its own sign of Gemini adapability and flexibility is required.

Three planets change direction this month:  Mercury turns direct on the 11th which will start the gears moving again for most things, but Neptune turns retrograde on the 12th and is stationary throughout most of the month.  Neptune is the planet of inspiration and creativity, but it also urges us to transcend the material and discover the magic of the transcendent.  Boundaries are blurred and physical reality can be confusing, making decisions and anything practical difficult to achieve right now.  This is a better time for spiritual practice and creative endeavors – enjoying the arts and music, meditation and generally looking for an inner experience of the divine.

Chiron (wounding and healing) also turns retrograde this month, aiding Neptune in its quest to bring us more deeply into the inner mysteries and taking the process one step further by opening the doorways of the heart so that healing and transformation can occur.

Saturn (testing and hard work) is already traveling in retrograde motion, but this month […]

Planetary Illuminations for May now posted!

May 2015 horoscopesYou can read the article in its entirety here,  and if you’re on my mailing list you will receive your newsletter with a translation into easy to understand English later today.  If you’re not yet on my mailing list please sign up in the sidebar!

Meanwhile here is the introduction to help get you started!

The effect of the challenging square aspect between Uranus (radical change) and Pluto (destruction and regeneration) that has dominated the astrological news for the past five years is beginning to wane, and now it is time to pick up the pieces of our lives and recreate our reality in ways that better support us.  Although the planetary cycle is complete, the restructuring has just begun.  Pluto is still in Capricorn until 2023, where it is breaking down (Pluto) the structures that underpin the societies in which we live (Capricorn).  Uranus is still in Aries until 2018, and the rights of the individual (Uranus) is expressed more aggressively (Aries) than they otherwise would be.

Mercury turns retrograde at the Taurus New Moon on May 18th. For the first two weeks of May as Mercury’s motion begins to slow in preparation for its change of direction we will start to see communication begin to become more confused and a greater need to turn inwards for answers as the externals lose their focus.  Mercury retrograde periods are essential since they help us to realign our thinking and refocus our energies – however, they can be difficult when we try to push a project through to completion and encounter Mercury-related glitches and delays.

During the month of May we have a nice elemental balance between Earth (grounding), Air (objectivity and reason), Fire (action and inspiration) and Water (feelings and intuition). […]

Planetary Illuminations for March 2015 now posted

February astrology Image from Deviant Art

The March Planetary Illuminations report is now posted and you can read it in its entirety here.  If you are on my mailing list you will soon receive a simplified version of the report which is in plain English and easy to understand.  If you’re not on my mailing list, please sign up in the sidebar!

There is a great deal of planetary excitement this month and here is the introduction to get you started.

The biggest planetary factor influencing our world today continues to be the challenging square (90 degree) aspect between Uranus and Pluto.  (If this is unfamiliar to you please read the summary in the sidebar for more details.)  Challenging aspects between Uranus and Pluto occur every 35 years or so, with the last one, the conjunction, occurring between 1962-1968.  The current cycle has included seven exact alignments and one additional alignment that was within a few degrees, beginning back in 2010.  It is this major cycle that has been the witness of so much revolutionary change and radical breakdown of power structures across the globe.

During the first two weeks of March Venus and Mars, both in Aries, “translate” the bigger Uranus/Pluto event.  The faster moving planets often trigger larger cycles into action, so I would expect this time period to erupt into conflict and bring any power structures that simmer below the surface into consciousness, both in the global political arena and in our personal lives as well.

We also see the second phase this month of a harmonious trine between Jupiter and Uranus, the two freedom and liberation planets, that peaks on March 3rd.  Jupiter provides expansive confidence, and Uranus excites the imagination and creates innovation and […]

The question of cusps and the 29th degree

sign cuspsIn response to a few questions I had from readers after other astrologers wrote about the New Moon being in Pisces, I thought it would be useful to discuss the idea of the “cusp.”  This is one of those concepts about which you can read a myriad of different opinions from very reputable astrologers.

The cusp idea comes mainly from the popular world of “sun sign astrology.”  Since the Sun doesn’t move from one sign to another on the same day every year in order to give readers an idea of which sign their birthdate fell in there was a need to find a way to describe those few days in which there could be some leeway between one sign or another as you can see in this image which put the cusp between Aquarius and Pisces as being between the 18th and 22nd of February.  For example, the Sun moved into Pisces last night right after the New Moon at 29 degrees Aquarius, the 18th of February.  But in 2012, the Sun moved into Pisces on the 19th of February.  Still, in the past 80 years the Sun has not moved into Pisces later than the 19th, so the idea that the Pisces cusp extends to the 22nd is not really valid.

Popular astrology columns often say that if you were born “on the cusp,” meaning in the few days before or after the day the Sun changed signs, that you have a dual influence as shown by the illustration above.  Astrologers reading birthcharts often extend the cusp idea to the nature of other planets and points, including the Ascendant and Midheaven angles.

What I have come to see in reading many charts over the years is that the last few degrees […]

Tribute to fellow astrologer Jeff Jawer

Jeff Jawer astrologerMany of my readers will know Jeff Jawer from his writings which have appeared all over the Internet for the past fifteen years and more. When I started this blog and was trying to shop my articles, Jeff’s site with Rick Levine, StarIQ, was the first one I contacted since their site had the kind of articles I myself wanted to write – newsy pieces that connected astrology to the world in a way that everyone could understand.  Later when my blog was picked up by BeliefNet I received a warm welcome from Jeff and Rick who were at that time writing for Tarot.com which was a sister site.  I loved Jeff’s writing style and often turned to his posts when I wanted another astrologer’s take on a particular planetary cycle.

Jeff was diagnosed with lung cancer in January this year and died just a month later, on February 10, 2015.

Jeff’s birth data is available at Astro.com, and Rick has posted the time and place of death on their website in a moving tribute to his longtime colleague and business partner.  Jeff had the Sun in Taurus opposing the Moon in Scorpio – just past the Full Moon suggesting the culmination of an incarnation cycle with the need to begin to disseminate and share the wisdom gleaned from that cycle.  His chart is filled with the element of air, the element of communication – Venus and Uranus in Gemini and in the third house of communication in a trine to Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Libra, the sign of harmony and relationships, in the house of relationships.

With hardworking Capricorn on the Midheaven denoting his vocation, it is not surprising that he was able to produce […]
