Psychiatric drugs: A modern distraction

A new study out of Germany shows that only 6% of all psychiatric drugs show any added benefit (in a study which found that 58% of ALL drugs showed no added benefit).

As a child of the ’60s, it is peculiar to me that parents today are GIVING drugs to their kids. The use of drug stimulants for children exploded between 1991 and 1995, and antidepressant prescriptions nearly doubled during the same period – coinciding with the conjunction of Uranus and Neptune.  This is not surprising – Uranus rules electricity and radical behavior and is sometimes associated with mental disorders if afflicted in the natal chart.  Neptune presides over experiences that take us beyond the mundane, into spiritual bliss or addiction, and is also associated with consciousness altering substances.  By 2014, 7% of all children between age 6 and 17 were taking some sort of psychiatric drug, mostly for ADHD.  More than twice as many boys were prescribed as girls – not surprising since boys are often more active than girls.

I have no wish to minimize the danger of true psychiatric disorders which require ongoing medication such as bipolar or psychotic episodes, or a serious depression or panic disorder which requires short-term medication to help the patient move through a difficult time. But I am concerned about our tendency in the modern world to avoid our own emotions and medicate our children into subservience.

The astrological birthchart identifies certain predispositions in our personality and emotional makeup. Acting as a map, the birthchart identifies our strength and challenges, and shows the way to navigate through our difficulties. Often situations that we find devastating later bring us great joy and wisdom that we would never have gained […]

My plan to revamp the US Healthcare system and add 14 years to your life!

This article was originally posted in 2008 and has been updated.

Under this week’s retrograde Mercury in Pisces, which has attached itself to travel companion Neptune over the next week, the William Barr Justice Department under President Trump has recommended repeal of the Affordable Care Act, generating a s*&#storm of panic and anxiety in the hearts of Americans.

The problem as I see it, though, is that the American healthcare system is completely broken.  It doesn’t really matter how healthcare is paid for – the system is based on profit and corrupt at its core.  It needs to be completely rebuilt.  Pluto, the planet of destruction and regeneration, is in the US second house of money and finance.  There has been a great deal of discussion among astrologers concerning how the US Pluto return over the next few years would affect the country, and perhaps this would be a good place to start.  Healthcare spending in the US was $17.9B in 2017, or $10,739 per person. This is twice as much as the average of other comparable first world countries (only Switzerland comes close).

A recent Harvard study reports:

Maintaining five healthy habits — eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, keeping a healthy body weight, not drinking too much alcohol, and not smoking — during adulthood may add more than a decade to life expectancy, according to a new study led by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Researchers also found that American women and men who maintained the healthiest lifestyles were 82 percent less likely to die from cardiovascular disease and 65 percent less likely to die from cancer when compared with those with the least healthy lifestyles over the course of the roughly […]

The astrology of Multiple Sclerosis, 2019 edition

astrology of multiple sclerosisClients and longtime readers of this blog know that I have a special interest in the way the energy of an astrological chart manifests in health problems and I have written before about the correlation to a compromised Mars placement and various autoimmune diseases.   Disclaimer:  I have no medical training and any medical information that appears in this blog contains only my own hypothetical beliefs and should not in any way be construed as medical advice.

The astrological role of Mars is to energize us and provide defense for the personality.  Mars is known as the planet of war, but also motivates and inspires and can be brought to rage and anger if we are thwarted.  Many of us are afraid of anger, both in ourselves and others, and we often repress our own rage and/or find it difficult to defend ourselves when necessary.  How well we are predisposed to deal with matters of war and action and courage is demonstrated by the placement of Mars in the astrological chart.  When Mars in the astrological chart is debilitated or blocked, the frustration and anger can build up in the body’s energetic system and emerge in a variety of health issues.  Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis – I have seen all of these issues, as well as multiple sclerosis, in clients with a compromised Mars in their charts.

Multiple sclerosis is classified as an autoimmune disease – a disease in which the immune system attacks the body and the body is unable to defend itself against the attack.  You can easily see the correspondence between Mars and this definition – there is an attack and a lack of defense, both are Mars factors.  I have written before on […]

Warrior energy and health problems

lokasiwisata.info Mars astrologyThis article was originally published in 2012. I am not certain where this art came from originally, but I found it here.

As many of you know, I have a special interest in energy imbalances and health as shown in the birthchart.  Disclaimer:  I have no medical training and any medical information that appears in this blog contains only my own hypothetical beliefs and should not in any way be construed as medical advice. When there is an immune system disorder of some sort, such as Multiple Sclerosis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue symdrome, and other similar ailments I nearly always see what I call a “fire problem” in the chart.

Fire is the element of action and initiation – it creates the drive and ambition that inspires us and stimulates desire and need.  When a chart lacks the fire element, or if there is a strong Mars that is afflicted by a challenging aspect from Neptune, Saturn or Pluto without other supporting factors, the  fire energy is more difficult to express and can back up into energetic blocks in the body.  You can read more about that in this earlier post.

The other day I did a reading for a client who has Multiple Sclerosis.  Her chart showed Mars in Leo – a powerfully expressive Mars that demands attention and enthusiasm – but it was opposed by Neptune, the planet of subjugation and transcendence.  She had no other fire in her chart, and she had a great deal of difficulty expressing her needs (Mars in Leo) or dealing with any feelings of anger when her boundaries were violated.  After her MS diagnosis she found she could use that fact to assert […]

The astrology of vaccines and the Saturn/Neptune square

vaccines astrologyAs an astrologer it is interesting to watch how current planetary cycles play out in the news.  Saturn just moved into Sagittarius where our belief systems (Sagittarius) are being challenged, and right now Saturn is within two degrees or so of a challenging square to Neptune.

Saturn as many of you know is the Celestial Teacher of the astrological pantheon – he is the voice that scolds us when we are unrealistic and the guide who allows us to make stupid mistakes in the name of learning.  In the sign of Sagittarius over the next couple of years he will challenge our ideas of what gives meaning to our world, and threaten our most closely held belief systems – all for the sake of greater mastery of the material world which is the true goal of Saturn in our lives.

Neptune is the planet of spirituality and imagination, but also delusion and addiction.  Under Neptune’s influence we seek an experience that goes beyond the material world – ideally through the higher practices of meditation, art or music but sometimes through fantasy and an unrealistic approach to life.  When Saturn and Neptune form a challenging aspect in the sky, the reality factor (Saturn) conflicts with the desire to escape that reality (Neptune).

The recent flareup of concern over unvaccinated children at this particular time shows the confusion (Neptune) around the area of vaccine safety, and Saturn in Sagittarius is challenging our belief systems that guide us.  The federal government provides a religious  (Sagittarius) exemption for parents who choose not to vaccinate their children which is likely to be challenged under Saturn’s influence.

Right now this whole issue appears to be mostly centered in political rhetoric, but later in the year […]
