Astrology in my world: Sunday tribe poetry

“Tell your story.
Shout it. Write it.
Whisper it if you have to.
But tell it.
Some won’t understand it.
Some will outright reject it.
But many will
thank you for it.
And then the most
magical thing will happen.
One by one, voices will start
whispering, ‘Me, too.’
And your tribe will gather.
And you will never
feel alone again.”

–L.R. Knost

I found this poem in a wonderful Facebook group called “Ravenous Butterflies” and it really resonated with me because of my current Saturn transit.  All of us are experiencing a tightening of the conjunction between Saturn (tests and challenges) and Pluto (total transformation) to some degree.  The combination of these two planets generally denotes a destructive force that can clear the path of any debris that is interfering with the natural movement of the Universe towards balance.  This has the potential to be a positive force, but it is also associated with contraction and challenge, especially now since both planets are in the contracting sign of Capricorn.  This week I’ll be writing a comprehensive post about this alignment, which just gives us a sneak peek this summer and culminates in 2020.

Anyone who has planets between 18 and 26 degrees of Capricorn, Cancer, Libra and Aries will be affected more personally by this planetary alignment (if you want to know how you are affected leave your birth data in the comments and I’ll tell you), and I am one of those people.  I have four planets in those degrees, including my own Saturn/Sun conjunction.  This Saturn/Sun conjunction is a rough challenge that often brings a deep sense of loneliness and isolation.  The beauty though of Saturn is that if you can live through the difficult early years, the years after midlife are so much easier.  I […]

Sunday inspiration: Hope in a dark time

Recent news events make it more and more difficult to find a glimmer of hope that the world in which we live will get better… that love will prevail and peace will begin to guide our fellow humans.

Astrology teaches us that everything is cyclical – everything has its own season. Spring gives way to Summer, which leads into Fall and then into Winter where the plants die off and are reborn in the next cycle.

Rick Tarnas writes “We’re descending daily into catastrophe, yet we are inalienably endowed with an ever-evolving aspiration to realize something beyond the already-actual. Hope, I believe, can serve as both an *intimation* and an *evocation* of a greater or higher or deeper dimension of being that is drawing us forth.”

Sunday inspiration: Feeding the Wolf with Eris and Pluto

Deviant Art.  Today the Sun aligns with Eris (disruption) which is in a challenging square to both Pluto (destruction/regeneration) and Saturn (tests and challenges), which flank the South Node of the past.  The symbolism of Eris as the goddess who became angry when she didn’t receive a wedding invitation and retaliated by starting the Trojan War was eerily reflected in the fact that the discovery of Eris correlated to the time when a hanging chad changed the fate of US history and ushered in 20 years of war.  You can see that she’s a wild character under which seemingly random incidents change the course of history.

A square (90 degree angle) between two planets generally denotes conflict that requires a crisis in order to find integration between the two planets.  Between 2015 and 2017, Eris made a square formation to Uranus, planet of “shock and awe” and radical change, coinciding with the 2016 presidential election in the US and Brexit among lots of other crazy things across the globe.

The square of Eris to Pluto won’t culminate until January of 2020, the same time when Saturn and Pluto align in Capricorn.  I’ll be writing more about this soon, but for now I will just say that this is not a time of champagne and strawberries, or for getting lost in fantasies of an Aquarian Age of peace and love.  This is a time for truth-telling and building solid foundations for communities that will not be destroyed in a hurricane or tornado.  This is a time for facing difficult truths and finding peace and tranquility in the simplest things.

I found this in the archives, and it seems to me […]

“Don’t let astrology support a life of fear”

Many years ago I posted a link this article by astrologer Victoria Bazely that mirrors my feelings on this issue EXACTLY!!  Unfortunately the original article has disappeared, but the truth remains.

I have a pet peeve, and like most pet peeves perhaps, it’s a bit hypocritical. My pet peeve is people who use astrology (or anything else really) to support a life run by fear. I’ve read that Nancy Reagan used to consult an astrologer before her husband did anything and wouldn’t let him do things like sign legislation unless an astrologer gave the okay–which meant he sometimes ended up doing things at odd hours like 1:59 a.m. I don’t know if she actually did this, but just reading about it irritates me. It irritates me because it strikes me as operating out of a combination of fear, dependence, and an excessive need for control. . . .

Life happens, and life includes bad, scary, challenging or even exhilarating twists of fate. You can’t control the entire universe with astrology or anything else. Life happened to Ronald and Nancy Reagan, just as it does to everyone else. His presidency had its challenges and its triumphs, just as other presidencies do. If credit is to be given for the success of his presidency, I’d rather give it to a combination of his character, his ideas, and his willingness to act on them. . . .

It’s the same thing when I hear astrologers say things like “don’t get a haircut or buy shoes when the moon is void of course!” Something in me just says “I’ll buy shoes and get a haircut whenever I darn well please. I can’t live my life running around checking to see whether […]

Grief is like a river

Yesterday I played some music for a community event called “Death and Cupcakes,”  an exploration of the expression of grief.  Although there were a few men in the group, it was the women who shared their stories.  One whose husband died from ALS and struggles for her children to find a way forward after this devastating loss.  One whose son died a few years ago and seeks to find a ritual to remember him on the third anniversary of his death.  One who struggles with “anticipatory grief” knowing that someone she loves plan to take his life.

Grief is the deep emotion of mourning a loss.  Typically we think of grief as mourning the death of a loved one, but I wonder if grief can be defined as any loss of love.  In life our losses can mount up.  The loss of an idea of a mother’s love.  The loss of a dream of a marriage that didn’t work out and the love of that partner. The loss of a special pet.  The loss when a child leaves the home. The loss caused by regret that we didn’t do enough for someone we love once they are gone.

One thing that struck me yesterday is that there is no one structure that we can build for healing our grief.  Not only is every situation of loss different, every one of us experiences grief differently and crystallizes the experience of loss into our lives in different ways.  Grief can make us feel closer to the ones we have lost.  It sometimes becomes part of our story – a new identity that we take on.  After my mother lost her husband the first thing she would say when she met someone new […]
