Sunday inspiration: Trusting the future

(reposted from 2012) Astrologers have a reputation, which we ourselves and our forbears have propagated, of being able to foretell the future.  If you run a Google search for “Can astrology predict the future,” the very first article is from a well-known astrology site titled “Predicting the future with astrology.”

The hunger to know the future is not, of course, limited to astrology.  Climatologists, stockbrokers, economists – all are paid to predict the future.  All fail miserably.

In our personal lives we long to know the outcome of our personal situations.  As one client brilliantly wrote me in frustration that astrology could not provide a clear map for him, “It is difficult for me, who feels blind about many things in life, to see a possible path to the answers, and that I feel on the edge of great personal discoveries, without the ability to really obtain them.”  I have certainly experienced those same feelings, and for many years I studied every aspect of my life through an astrological lens, hoping to find a clue to the future.

It’s just not possible.

It’s not possible to know the future because we are on a journey of self-discovery.  Religious people have a hard and fast belief system that tells them what their future holds, and for many that blind faith offers comfort.  I am a person that needs to experience things to believe them, and what I CAN tell you is that after over 30 years as a student and practitioner of astrology I have learned to really trust the planets.  The painful changes that we are forced to make under a Pluto transit can be seen through the eyes of hindsight as having been extremely beneficial.  The hardships of a Saturn/Sun […]

Sunday inspiration: when bad planets happen to good people

dark night of the soul Art by Willow Arlenea

I mean the title as a bit of a joke – an homage to the self-help book from the 1970s by Harold Kushner.  But it’s no joke when tragic events happen in our own lives or to someone we love.

Over the past five years of such intense planetary drama these stories seem to occur more frequently, at least in my life.  The bride-to-be whose fiance dies of a heart attack five days before the wedding.  The parents who lose two children in the space of a year.  The friend who waited over 40 years to find her soulmate and build their dream house, only to have him die of a brain tumor less than five years into their marriage.  Another friend in a difficult marriage who loses her husband and father within six months.  All of you have your own stories, perhaps from your own lives.

This kind of event that turns our world upside down generally occurs under the auspices of Saturn or Pluto.  And sometimes both.  My sister was an astrology skeptic until I started my blog under her tutelage, and then she became curious.  I’m still not sure she’s convinced in its accuracy, but she is interested enough to want to know what the planets are doing when things get rough.

Over the past few years she has had a ridiculous lineup of planetary transits and progressions including a big lineup of planets to Pluto in her progressed chart and her second Saturn return.  During that time she lost a job, found another one, her husband lost his job, couldn’t find another one, our mother ended up in the hospital with a chronic illness and died, her husband […]

Sunday inspiration: Living wide open

Living Wide Open:
Landscapes of the Mind

I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear
of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
to allow my living to open me,
to make me less afraid,
more accessible;
to loosen my heart
until it becomes a wing,
a torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance,
to live so that which came to me as seed
goes to the next as blossom,
and that which came to me as blossom,
goes on as fruit.

Sunday Inspiration from Kelly Lee Phipps

kelly-lee

is a brilliant astrologer who was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer this year. He posted this poem on his Facebook page.

SATORI

Two circles unite
sun and moon move together

eternity flows

One heart opens wide
living waters surged inward

tears crawling from our stories

This sacred flow aspires
to express the divine through
a fountain of radiant wisdom

As rain falls on the cracked ground
fertilizing being in the
depths of pure, fiery satori

As in the heavens, so in each of us,
we ascend fully into the moment
returning to visionary wholeness

Yet we resist the inward current
carrying the secrets of the mountains
to the sea

We are afraid of the awakening voice
calling from heaven within
as we stand firm against
the dancing flame in our hearts

asking where is passion?

what is purposeful?

why should action be actionless?

In the modern cultures we look back to ancient indigenous cultures for wisdom and enlightenment. In our struggle to preserve and perfect our lives we have forgotten how to truly live.

Kelly Lee (2/5/1971) was diagnosed as his progressed Sun (Self) made an exact opposition to Pluto, the planet of transformation.  He is also in the middle of his Uranus opposition: a time when Uranus in the sky is exactly opposite Uranus in the birthchart.  Uranus experiences that shock us into awakening into a new reality, and the Uranus opposition at age 41-42, the return at age 84 and the squares at 21 and 61-62 are all very significant times of change.

Kelly Lee’s Sun is in Aquarius, ruled by Uranus, and his Sun is in a harmonious trine to Uranus.  Uranus is the Lord of Astrology – astrology is itself governed by the Uranian influence of radical departure from established thought and rules.  Kelly Lee is […]

Sunday Inspiration for Autumn: Reawakening

autumn-rocks

Smell the fallen leaves as they are decaying – it is your body.

Feel the raindrops on your skin – it is your blood.

Feel the hardness of stone and the softness of the breeze – it is your breath.

Become soft like the wind and speak to the leaves as they fall, releasing and forgiving and renewing in the whole.

Flow with the cycle of life for life is your tissue that binds it all together as one dream.

Then, when you close your eyes, return to Source and rest in Love.

The great central sun shall rise in the morning, re-awakening you to life.

Black Elk
