Here’s something to perk up your day!

Venus conjunct UranusEvery page is a new beginning.

Venus conjoins Uranus today, and since both are in Aries it’s gonna be a hot time in the old town tonight, if you heed the siren song of Venus, the planet of love and connection, hooking up with the iconoclast and rebellious Uranus.  And with both in Aries, the potential for fireworks is high!

Jeff and Michelle are having a fascinating discussion over at the Sasstrology site.  Uranus can bring sudden changes of fortune, and with Venus approaching Uranus this could mean sudden changes in our interpersonal relationships. :

Michelle: They’re paired up in the sign of Aries, which is all about a new beginning. But Uranus can sometimes be about separation. So when we get Venus conjunct Uranus in Aries, it really begs the question, is it the beginning or the end? The answer to that isn’t immediately apparent, because Venus has just come out of Pisces, which is affiliated with endings, and then we’ve got the contrast with Aries (new beginnings), and then we have this unpredictable element provided by Uranus, which is associated with surprising plot twists. So this could signify a surprise beginning of a relationship; somebody brand new pops into the scene out of seemingly nowhere, but it could also signify separation. And again, that really depends on the strength and the quality of the relationship that you’re talking about.

Jeffrey: And sometimes a beginning brings on an ending. Venus is, among other things, the planet of love and relationships and romance. You may suddenly meet someone new, which—if you’re already in a relationship—could precipitate an ending. So one thing I would advise—especially because this combination is happening in impulsive Aries—is to look […]

Don’t fall for this!

mercury retrograde Really?

Maybe I’m just a skeptic, but I don’t think aromatherapy will “cure” Mercury retrograde. Mercury’s job when retrograde is to perfect our plans and communications by inspiring us to think in a different way. Avoiding this necessary step of re-grouping and re-vising will not help us in the long run.

So enjoy this retrograde period – don’t fight it!  You’ll emerge when it’s over with better skills and greater confidence.

More friendship advice from Saturn in Libra

If you live in North Carolina you can visit me this weekend at the Body Mind Spirit Expo in Raleigh at the fairgrounds (Kerr Scott Building).  We have lots of beautiful rocks and crystals for sale, and I’ll be doing readings and mini readings.

Meanwhile, in other Saturn-related relationship news, researchers in Edinburgh studied 200 students to determine their feelings about Facebook friends.  At least 12% of them were anxious about their Facebook obligations, and that 12% had an average of 117 “friends.”  The remaining 88% had an average of 75 “friends.”  (This is rather astonishing, because I know high school kids who have over 900 Facebook friends.)

You can , but this was interesting to me because I had just received a Realtor magazine with a cover story titled “Overfriended,” in which the writer revealed that he had spent the past year unfriending people on Facebook.  This author cites a study about a “Dunbar’s number” that limits the number of stable relationships a person can have to 150.

I too decided last year to pare down my Facebook friends to a more manageable number of people that I actually know.  To me the beauty of Facebook is keeping up with the people that you know but don’t get to see very often.  My oldest friend who lives in another state and who I only talk to once a year on our birthdays.  People that I have met online and want to know more about.  Astrology clients who want to share more of their lives with me.  Frequent commenters on my blog who always have interesting things to say.

Like everyone else, I was rather thrilled when my Facebook friend number kept rising, but when […]

A Valentine’s Day astrology forecast for my readers

Valentines day astrologyToday has the potential to be filled with passion and love with Venus still within range of a conjunction to Pluto.  Venus rules our relationships with others and the way that we connect with each other, and Venus is in the exceedingly practical sign of Capricorn right now.   In Capricorn, Venus has the discipline to remember to send flowers, and to organize a beautiful date for the loved one.

Pluto is the planet of intensity and depth, and in combination with Pluto there is often an overwhelming desire to connect more deeply than ever before.  There is a great deal of all kinds of passion floating about, so if there is anger between you and your loved one it is likely to find an outlet under this influence.  This is particularly true because Venus is approaching a challenging aspect to Saturn, the planet of tests and delays.

There will be a lot of romance in the air anyway, though, because the Moon is approaching a conjunction to Neptune that heightens our ability to love and to see the best in those around us.  Neptune is creative and artistic, and inspires us with a sense of longing for a divine connection.  Under this influence we can find the spiritual partnership that underlies the day to day reality of marriage or living together.  Because four planets are in Aquarius now, we also have a greater ability to create interesting new ways to spend Valentine’s Day.

This Aquarian influence offers a positive effect to those of us without partners for whom Valentine’s Day is often an isolating experience.  Aquarius celebrates the individual and the community, and enhances our experience that no matter what our relationship status we […]

“2010’s World Gone Wild”

wild weatherBloomberg reports:

This was the year the Earth struck back.

Earthquakes, heat waves, floods, volcanoes, super typhoons, blizzards, landslides and droughts killed at least a quarter million people in 2010 — the deadliest year in more than a generation. More people were killed worldwide by natural disasters this year than have been killed in terrorism attacks in the past 40 years combined.

“It just seemed like it was back-to-back and it came in waves,” said Craig Fugate, who heads the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency. It handled a record number of disasters in 2010.

“The term ‘100-year event’ really lost its meaning this year.”

This is not surprising astrologically, since the charts for the equinoxes and solstices are often used as tools for weather prediction.  The chart for the Summer Solstice was closely tied into the Cardinal Drama that we’ve seen over the past year was an intense one (see the details in this earlier article), suggesting climactic summer weather around the globe.   The chart for the Fall Equinox featured the square of Saturn to Pluto aligning with the Equinox Sun and portending more crisis (Saturn) and upheaval (Pluto), as well as dramatic change (Jupiter conjunct Uranus and the Moon) likely in the realm of water (all three signs in Pisces).  Not to mention the ongoing influence of the Chiron/Neptune conjunction which has had the effect of lancing a painful boil on the face of the earth to see what might erupt there and ultimately be healed from the experience.

It looks like we won’t get any respite this winter since the chart for the Equinox includes a lunar eclipse  and a lineup in Capricorn that includes Mars and Pluto along with the Sun […]
