I did a little video for the Full Moon which takes place on the morning of the 19th. I’ll include this information in Monday’s astrological update as well.
Today’s New Moon in Capricorn is the first eclipse of the year: a partial Solar Eclipse in which the light of the Moon blocks out the Sun. This eclipse occurs with five planets (including the Sun and Moon) all in the practical and grounded sign of Capricorn.
Though a solar eclipse typically brings out the heightened emotions of the Moon as the solar conscious principle is blocked by the lunar influence which is more reactive, this Capricorn New Moon is all about creating a new foundation which is solid and well balanced. Any eclipse carries with it a heightened energy which can be utilized for creation and for personal transformation – we can see this energy at work in the fact that eclipses are usually associated with powerful weather events.
That is particularly true of this eclipse – though it is a partial eclipse, the Sun and Moon are aligned with Pluto, planet of destruction and rebirth. Capricorn can be somewhat ruthless in its efforts to create a solid structure, setting aside personal emotions for the sake of the greater goals. As in any eclipse, the Sun and Moon are also aligned with the lunar nodes, and in this case the North Node is in the sensitive nurturing sign of Cancer. This Cancer North Node urges us not to forget the feelings and needs of those around us while we concentrate on our plan.
Fortunately, a Grand Trine of water (emotion and sensitivity) link Venus (relating and interpersonal connection) with Chiron (wounding and healing) and the Cancer North Node. Keep in mind that eclipse energies typically build for about three days before the event and take about three days to subside. Finding this emotional balance within as we put the grounded […]
The astrological Solstice occurs when the Sun enters Capricorn (for my Southern Hemisphere friends this is actually the Summer Solstice). Solstices and Equinoxes are important energetic gateways having to do with the balance of light and darkness. At the Winter Solstice, the days are at their shortest and as humans we are pulled inwards into deep soul reflection.
The astrology of the Solstice Full Moon
This year, a Full Moon at zero degrees Cancer marks the entry of the Sun into Capricorn. The Full Moon is the height of the lunar cycle – the lunar energy of instinct and emotional truth is maximized, and the power fueled by the realm of feelings is at its height. At the same time, the cycle of darkness and light is at its nadir. The combination of these two effects opens a portal of energy which we can use to effect powerful change in our own life. And I believe, in the world around us.
When the Moon is full in Cancer, it opposes the Capricorn Sun, also at zero degrees. The Cancer/Capricorn polarity asks that we balance the realm of emotion and the inner life of the soul (Cancer) with the world of the trappings of the material world: success, structure, rules and order. But at the Full Moon the lunar influence is at its most powerful, drawing us more deeply into the inner world of feelings.
The Cancerian Full Moon is packed full of feeling and emotion, and the power of that emotion has the potential to transform your life for good and for ill. When we harness our emotions to our Will, we create magic. A little bit of intention can go a long way towards creating a lasting and positive transformation and that […]
The New Moon in Scorpio on the 7th which coincides this year with astrological Samhain, the ancient cross-quarter holiday of power at 15 degrees Scorpio.Samhain is one of the “cross-quarter” holidays that fall between the Solstices and Equinoxes. Astrologically, the Solstices and Equinoxes mark the entry of the Sun into the cardinal signs of initiation: Aries at Spring, Cancer at Summer, Libra at Autumn and Capricorn at Winter. The cross-quarter periods occur at 15 degrees of the fixed signs, with Samhain in the sign of Scorpio, the sign that corresponds to death and rebirth. The veils between the worlds are at their thinnest at this time, and our intuition is heightened so when we combine this with the power of the New Moon to create and begin anew we can see how magical this particular New Moon will be.
The Scorpio New Moon is all about diving deep into our passions, desires, and the power of our emotions. Under Scorpio’s tutelage we surrender any veneer of who and what we think we should be, and embrace our true selves with acceptance and honesty. This New Moon includes a blessing of Neptune to open the doors of perception and enhance our divine connection as well as our creativity, and the New Moon ruler (Mars) harmonizes with Venus to create balance between yin and yang. Venus and Ceres combine to enhance our desire to take care of ourselves and find a peaceful easy balance within. However, the Black Moon Lilith aligns with Mars which will activate the dark side of the Scorpio New Moon, aiding in the integration of the shadow Self.
The effect of the New Moon generally begins a few days before the lunation and lingers for a few days […]
. The October Full Moon is sometimes called the Hunter’s Moon – in the northern hemisphere this is the time when the deer are rutting and behave wildly, and humans are preparing for a long winter by stocking up on food.
This Full Moon occurs at zero degrees Taurus – the very beginning of the astrological sign which more than any other connects us to the Earth. Under the influence of Taurus we seek to become more grounded in our physical incarnation; enriched by the pleasures of the physical world we learn to live in synchronicity with all of the other natural beings with whom we share this earthly domain.
The Taurus Moon is opposite the Sun at zero degrees Scorpio. Scorpio is the sign of intense emotional experiences that transform us from the inside out, and along with Taurus are two of the fixed signs, the signs that carry the most power. Full Moons are the apex of the lunar cycle, and the opposition (180 degree) aspect requires integration of two opposing polarities. Where Taurus longs for peace and comfort, Scorpio demands intensity and passionate involvement. Where Taurus seeks security, Scorpio is an emotional risk-taker. It is this tension between the conscious solar energy and the lunar instincts and feelings that creates the emotionality for which Full Moons are famous and with four planets in Scorpio right now, the passion and drive of our feelings will be intensified even more.
This Full Moon is made even more powerful by the connection to Uranus, planet of radical change, which is aligned exactly with the Taurus Moon. Where the Taurus Moon instills us with a longing for peace and equanimity, Uranus acts as the […]
