February 15th eclipse at the Aquarius New Moon- Write your own story

partial solar eclipse February 15

Although the eclipse on February 15th is a partial one, it still packs a strong astrological punch. There is a powerful compression of energies in the chart of the New Moon with six planets falling within a 30 degree arc, plus the North Node of fate, plus Juno, the asteroid of marriage and spiritual union.  You can see what a driver this New Moon will be to push us out of a deep sleep or unconsciousness into an awakened state.  A strong Jupiter aspect at the New Moon adds a grace card, but also suggests that we may overreact to these energies and exhaust ourselves.  Care should be taken to stay grounded during the period around the New Moon, because Aquarius (and Uranus, a strong influence here) are electromagnetic in nature and can burn out the nervous system if we aren’t careful. Loved ones will play an important part of the transitions during this lunar event.

Jupiter is in a tight square to the New Moon, showering us with hope and a longing to be more, have more, and do more than ever before.  We are also filled with new ideas thanks to a strong Uranus influence which helps us to see past the boundaries of the past into ways to find innovative new experiences.  Uranus rules Aquarius (modern ruler) so it rules this New Moon as well and accentuates the power of this New Moon to break us out of any ruts we have fallen into and move into a more authentic mode of being. Like any New Moon, this is a time of new beginnings – a time to set new intentions for new blessings to bring into our life.  But this New Moon carries with it an additional push to help us to clarify and intensify those intentions into reality – to write our own story and see it unfold.

Potential for mental exhaustion is strong between the New Moon and the 17th of February so if you can schedule some rest time after the effervescence of the New Moon has subsided, it will help you to find greater integration.

The January 2018 “Super Blue Blood Moon” and the Leo/Aquarius axis

January 31 blood super moon eclipse

The Leo Full Moon on January 31st offers a trifecta of attributes which make this lunar event somewhat significant.  Most important from an astrological perspective, this is a total lunar eclipse with very tight angles to the lunar nodes, the points that represent our passage from past to future.  This tight connection between the Moon and the Sun and the nodes opens up a force field that unlocks areas of our life which we have shut down, or attempted to protect ourselves from.

Four of the five eclipses in 2018 are on the Leo/Aquarius axis, forcing us to confront areas where our need for personal development and satisfaction (Leo) are in conflict with the need to let go of some of our personal satisfaction in order to achieve justice and equality in the world around us (Aquarius).  Leo and Aquarius are opposites in the Zodiac – there is a tension between them that require integration and balance.  In this eclipse the Sun and South Node are in Aquarius, demonstrating the consciously creative impulse that is detached and manifests as pure energy.  The Leo Moon is bringing out our secret longings for recognition and pleasure, to find joy in the world and a sense of feeling special and unique, admired by those around us.  The North Node aligns with the Moon to assist us in this journey while not leaving behind the higher Aquarian aspirations towards a more transpersonal view.

The fact that this is a so-called “Blue Moon” is merely a calendar accident and has no real astrological significance.  However, this is a SuperMoon (© ), meaning the Moon is closer to the Earth than at other times so it appears larger to us here on Planet Earth.  SuperMoons are associated with extreme weather events but can also intensify the effect of a Full Moon.  In the case of this January 31 eclipse, this is an astrological double whammy that can offer an opportunity for a tremendous breakthrough, especially for those of us who are more sensitive to lunar events (such as those with Cancerian signatures in their chart or a prominent Moon).  Breakthroughs sometimes do manifest as breakdowns instead, often when we feel stuck or have resisted necessary change and personal evolution.  Because of the potential for a higher degree of emotional intensity, I recommend spending some time in meditation or retreat at the time of this SuperMoon eclipse in order to set an intention for the creative power that may be released.

The eclipse formation is tied in with Ceres (nurturing and self-care) at the lunar Leo end and Venus (love, beauty, harmony) at the solar Aquarius end, accentuating the need to avoid losing ourselves in our obligations and duties at this time if at all possible, while maintaining an awareness of a connection with others.  It’s the balance between these two polarities that is the key to successfully utilizing the energies of this eclipse.

Full Moons are times of culmination, of fulfillment – the inner flower has bloomed and is at its peak right now. If you can resist the temptation to be lost in the Leo story, whether that is for grandeur or for victimhood, and align in your Truth seeking the highest good, you will find a showering of blessings at this eclipse time.

A Cancerian Supermoon for the New Year

New Year Full Moon

The first Full Moon of 2018 occurs right on New Year’s Day, in the highly sensitive and emotional sign of Cancer.   Cancer is the Moon’s own sign, and it is happiest there where its sentimentality and security needs can be best expressed.  The Cancerian Full Moon asks us to open our hearts and allow ourselves to be nurtured, and to find ways where we can both give and receive in greater balance.

This Full Moon is a Supermoon (© ) as it is nearing the closest point to the Earth in its normal orbit(perigee).  There are two Full Moons in January 2018, and both are Supermoons.  The Cancer Supermoon can be more intense emotionally, especially for individuals who tend to be more sensitive to lunar events.  Supermoons are often harbingers of intense weather and seismic events.  (The January 31 Supermoon will be in Leo and will have a more fiery quality, especially since it’s an eclipse as well.  More on that later!)

Full Moons signify a polarity – a need to balance oppositional forces.  Here the worldly Capricorn Sun opposes the delicate sensitivity of the Cancerian Moon, urging us to not lose sight of the tender heart that nourishes us while we focus on the Things That Must Be Done that Capricorn requires.  The heart connections that we enjoy with family and friends – our tribe, whether self-selected or the one we are thrust into – provide that nurturing that we need in order to function in the world.

The polarity balance in this Full Moon is heavily weighted towards Capricorn, with Venus and Pluto in Capricorn flanking the Sun.  The presence of Venus helps to soften the businesslike nature of Capricorn and infuses it with a sensitivity to our personal connections, and Pluto adds a quality of urgency and drama.

The New Year is often a time when we begin a new way of looking at our world, and this Full Moon helps us to tie together the various threads of our lives into a fabric that will embrace us and keep us connected throughout the year.

This Scorpio New Moon is packed with Scorpio Power

Scorpio New Moon 2017

What is Scorpio Power exactly?  Scorpio is the sign that represents the nature of Power itself.  Ruled traditionally by Mars, the god of war, and in the modern scheme by Pluto, the god of death and regeneration, Scorpio has some very intense allies.  Under Scorpio’s influence we must find the courage to face our demons from Mars, and the wisdom to face our deepest Truth from Pluto.  We must learn how to exert force to make things happen (Mars), and when to surrender to events beyond our control, our Fate if you will (Pluto).

Scorpio is all about depth, intensity, the gritty Realness of life and it’s not always pretty.

This month’s Scorpio New Moon on November 18th is particularly intense not only because four planets including the Sun and Moon are in Scorpio, but also because both of the Scorpio rulers, Mars and Pluto, are locked in an intense square aspect that can signify conflict, power issues, anger and rage.  But when Mars (the individual Will) and Pluto (the Will of the higher self) are managed consciously, this planetary combination is a supremely beneficial ally for manifesting intention and creating real magic in our lives.  In order to utilize Mars and Pluto consciously we must be prepared to release any ideas we may have of what we think we want and need (Mars issues) and seek the guidance of the inner voice of the higher self (Pluto).  We must be ready to accept what we cannot change (our Fate = Pluto) and change what we are able to (our desires = Mars).

This intensity is softened by a lovely harmonious trine from Chiron (wounding and healing) to the New Moon which will help us to release old feelings of self-doubt and abandonment as we move forward into a newly empowered future.  The two benefics Venus and Jupiter are still in tandem in Scorpio, showering blessings of good fortune as long as we stay mindful of our own Truth and don’t become mired in illusion.

Scorpio is all about emotion – deep, dark, intense emotion.  But in this New Moon an awkward (quincunx) aspect from Uranus to the lunation will keep us from getting to comfortable as we are pushed to create change where change is needed.  Uranus is connected with Higher Mind and is aligned with Pallas, the asteroid which signifies creative intelligence and innate wisdom –  the key to finding true integration in this Scorpio New Moon is to stay centered in your own Divine Wisdom as you allow the emotionality and feelings of the Scorpio Moon to awaken all of the lost and missing pieces of Soul that are ready to emerge.

This New Moon offers a powerful opportunity for real magic in your life.  New Moons wipe the slate clean and offer an opportunity to begin anew, so taking a few moments to create an intention for this New Moon will go a long way.

The Taurus Full Moon showers blessings on November 4, 2017

A glorious Full Moon in Taurus showers its blessings on November 4th. Ruled by Venus, Taurus calls upon us to put aside the extremes of our ideas and emotions and find a harmonious balance of peace and comfort.

Venus is well known for its association with love and beauty, but also governs the manner in which we view our life – our aesthetics, our self-esteem and, our ability to create resources out of the raw material of our day to day existence.

Under the Full Moon, the Scorpio Sun and its opposite, the Taurus Moon, struggle for supremacy and ultimately find integration.  The intensity of Scorpio finds balance against the placid nature of Taurus, softening some of Scorpio’s hard edges and urging us to ground and center into the Earth.

Venus is very active in this Full Moon: a Venus/Saturn combination offers stability in our relationships, but a stressful Venus/Uranus aspect could be divisive and require us to put space in our dealing with others where needed.

In addition, the challenging square between Saturn (restriction and tests) and Chiron (wounding and healing) is culminating now, facilitating our own transition through the healing journey into the comfort of the healed. Because this Full Moon is so centered on the influence of Venus, our relationships will be critical and areas that have been difficult could blossom into something magical.

This is a good time to bring people together over food, or in the enjoyment of beauty such as a trip to a museum or park. The pleasures of the physical realm will help to smooth any rough edges that Uranus may infuse into the Full Moon experience.
