Cancer Full Moon is a powerhouse of energy

full_moon_stock_by_Moon_WillowStockIn its own sign of Cancer the Full Moon is an emotional one – opening up the heart and requiring us to explore our own vulnerability. This particular lunation is powerful, with the Pluto (transformation) conjunct the Sun and opposing the Moon. Pluto encourages/forces us to go deep, beyond the superficial, and discover the treasure that lies there along with the ugly stuff that we prefer to keep hidden. Creating additional intensity is the square to Uranus which brings impatience and a potential for reckless behavior.

The Sun is in Capricorn now, and this Full Moon asks us to find balance between the emotional reactivity of Cancer and the cold hard facts of Capricorn.  Our feeling nature and our practical side must find balance now.

All of these energies combine to create an intense experience that will be made easier with conscious attention. Psychodrama and ritual can be a great benefit during this lunation – this is a perfect time for prayer through dance or movement. Fortunately there are several beneficial aspects that will help to provide ease and support during this time (the power of the Full Moon usually lasts for about three days) including the harmonious sextile from both Mercury (mind) and Venus (relationships) to Saturn (grounding and structure) that provides stability and sensibility.

Capricorn New Moon at the Solstice: The dark point of stillness

Capricorn New Moon Winter Solstice

“The black moment is the moment when the real message of transformation is going to come.  At the darkest moment comes the light.” – Joseph Campbell

The Capricorn New Moon will occur just six minutes after the moment of the Winter Solstice – the point at which the Sun moves into Capricorn in the tropical system.  The three days before the Winter Solstice are the darkest days of the year in the northern hemisphere.  Not only are the days shorter, but the Sun is lower in the sky, causing shadows to lengthen and its motion appears to stand still.

The Winter Solstice marks the return to the light – after the Solstice the days start growing longer and the Sun stronger.  As humans we are naturally drawn to light and tend to shun the darkness, but it is in the quiet stillness of the dark, when we are not distracted by the flickering images that pass through our life, that we can go deeply within into the core of our Selves and discover who we are beneath the superficial comings and goings of our experiences. Light a fire with the Sagittarius New Moon November 22!

Sagittarius Full MoonEvery New Moon brings a new beginning with the new lunar cycle.  The Sun and the Moon come together in an alchemical conjunctio – the reunification of the masculine conscious force (Sun) with the instinctive lunar feminine (Moon).  When this new beginning occurs in Sagittarius, the sign of adventure and ideas and meaning and just plain fun, we have the opportunity to bring in more zest and gusto.  Suddenly we are aware of unlimited possibilities, and our view across the future is longer and more encouraging.

The symbolism of the New Moon is even more powerful since the both the Sun and Moon are at the very first degree of Sagittarius.  A New Moon at the first degree of a sign is very symbolic of a fresh new energy coming into our lives and sweeping away the old. Under the influence of Scorpio the dead and dying aspects of our lives were immolated in fire, and now under Sagittarius the old is swept away and a new expansive way of looking at the world emerges. Samhain Full Moon in Taurus, November 6th 2014

Samhain full moon

Although the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain is celebrated for convenience on October 31st to coincide with Hallowe’en or All Hallows Eve, it actually occurs at the midpoint between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice.  This is also the midpoint of Scorpio, the dark season where the veils between the world begin to thin and it becomes easier to cross between them.

This year the Taurus Full Moon falls within one degree of the Samhain point – the Sun at 15 degrees Scorpio.  The power of this lunar opening at this degree encourages us to open more fully and walk courageously into the underworld of our own existence, finding the quiet power that lies within.  While the power of the earlier Scorpio stellium is lessening, there are still three planets in Scorpio which continue the focus on the power of emotions and feelings to transform and regenerate new life from the ashes of the past.

Every Full Moon consists of the Sun and Moon in opposite signs, so there is a need for integration and balance. The Taurus/Scorpio polarity is one of holding on and letting go. Taurus dislikes change and prefers stability, which can create stagnation. The Scorpio end of the polarity forces transformation in the form of destruction which is uncomfortable, but ultimately helps to move us forwards in our personal evolution as the regeneration cycle occurs.

With the Taurus Full Moon we are leaning towards the Taurus end of the spectrum as the Sun invites us to consider the dark arts of Scorpio to help let go of the past and welcome the Taurean peace and serenity that comes from being anchored into the Earth. […]

Solar Eclipse at the New Moon October 23 2014

Athena by the late Susan Seddon Boulet

Although the New Moon tomorrow is an eclipse at the first degree of Scorpio, there is still an intensely Libran influence during this last day leading into the eclipse.  Four planets (including the luminaries, the Sun and the Moon)  are in Libra, and the Sun is aligned with Venus, Libra’s ruler.  Libra and Venus possess a strong but delicate energy – inspiring relationship and harmony, yet requiring a peace and beauty.

This sensitivity will have to give way to tougher stuff when the Moon and Sun conjoin at the New Moon in the more intensely demanding sign of Scorpio on October 23rd at 5:57 pm Eastern time.  Scorpio says “forget your dainty tea parties and your loving relationships – strip yourself of your polite veneer and find your true passion.”   Scorpio has no patience for the superficial and encourages us to walk bravely into the fire of our dreams where any hesitation and fears can be burned away, leaving us to be reborn in the ashes of the fire – a cathartic emergence into our true selves and our true empowerment.

The zero degree point of Scorpio marks the entry into the period between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice that culminates at 15 Scorpio.  This is the time when the veil grows thin and communication between the worlds of the dead and the living may occur. We are highly connected now to the interplay of dimensions and intuitive abilities are at their peak.

Venus continues to play an important role, meeting the Sun and Moon in Scorpio and preparing us to dive into the depths of the dark pool.  There is tremendous potential now for our relationships to […]
