This New Moon in Cancer, June 2014

Cancer New Moon 2014The New Moon in Cancer takes place at 4:08 am on June 27th – the beginning of a new lunar cycle that takes us into a journey of exploration into the ways in which we connect with the people around us.

The sign Cancer brings us in touch with our family roots, but “family” can be defined in many different ways.  Most narrowly, “family” is defined as a group of related individuals living in a household together.  But family is widely defined as “a group of people sharing a common ancestor” – the family of humanity.  So the concern now is yes – our loved ones and those with whom we share a familial bond.  But also connections to our community, our cultural group, our spiritual family – all of these are important under the Cancer New Moon which seeks comfort and security through emotional connections with others.

The balance of nurturing and being cared for oneself is important under the Cancerian influence.  I have long thought of Ceres as being a “higher octave” planet of the Moon – where the Moon provides solace and comfort for the personality and the body, Ceres provides nourishment for our incarnation and relationship to the Earth herself.

Because of the emotionality of Cancer, relationships are crucial to the Cancerian New Moon.  Venus (relating, affection) has just moved into Gemini on the 23rd, and for the next few weeks communication will be the key to unlocking our interpersonal relationships.  It may be that new people will come into our life and introduce new energies and relationship.

Mars (aggression) is opposite Uranus (radical behavior) right now, and this  aspect is embedded in the chart for the New Moon in Cancer. The desire […]

Curiosity and knowledge: Keys to the Sagittarius Full Moon, June 2014

The Sagittarius Full Moon takes place just after midnight on June 13th Eastern time.  The Moon in Sagittarius encourages us to expand our visions – to aim higher and gain greater understanding.

In Sagittarius we refuse to take no for an answer – suddenly we know that we can do and be more than we ever thought possible before. Like all Full Moons, the Sagittarius Moon will be exactly opposite the Sun in Gemini.   Gemini wants to embrace the entire world – Sagittarius chooses instead to learn and grow more deeply in knowledge.

In this Full Moon we seek to balance our curiosity and tendency to take the superficial road (Gemini) with the lunar desire to seek the greater truth.  Gemini’s ruler is Mercury, and Mercury is retrograde now.  Gemini has the tendency to take in too much data and become distracted, and the retrograde Mercury encourages this tendency which can make the expansion and focus process more difficult.  Balance and equilibrium between these two opposing forces is the key.

Venus is active now, harmonizing with Chiron to facilitate healing and wisdom in our relationships, and opposing Saturn to emphasize our obligations and responsibilities to the people around us.  The Sagittarius Full Moon seeks expansion and the freedom to pursue our dreams, and under  this combination of influences we may feel that our duties to others (Venus/Saturn) interfere with our soul’s need to be free to seek experiences that teach us (Gemini/Sagittarius). Mars challenges Pluto right now, potentially inflaming situations but also adding creative fire to everything we do.  A harmonious trine from Saturn to Chiron will help to soften the hard edges, healing the sore spots so that we don’t become stuck in the darkness.

Full Moons illuminate the darkness – now is the time to let your […]

Gemini New Moon, May 28 2014

Gemini new moonThe New Moon in Gemini occurs on May 28th. Because the New Moon is the beginning of a new lunar cycle, there is a fresh new energy that is available to us at the New Moon.  It’s an opportunity to make a clean start and begin anew.

Gemini is the sign of the twins, and often it manifests as two faces of the same person which never have an opportunity to meet.  We experience this internally as duality – a part of us seeks one experience and another part of us craves its opposite.  When our values are not in alignment it becomes more difficult for us to focus and achieve our goals.

For this reason, Gemini times are not great for goal setting.  But they ARE good for exposing ourselves to new things so that we can try on new experiences and see how we are changed by them.  So during this Gemini New Moon, try something new that you have never tried before.  Maybe something that has never even occurred to you to try, or something you are certain you won’t like.  Try it just because you can.

Gemini loves to talk and communicate, so using words and language will be greatly supported over the next few days.

This New Moon includes a square from the Sun and Moon to Neptune.  Neptune squares are amazing, creative, spiritually opening.  But they can also create illusion and make it difficult to focus if work is required.  In addition, Gemini itself lacks focus, preparing to explore all of the myriad of experiences that are offered to us at the moment.

The period between the 25th and the 29th and not great times for business applications.  Instead use this time for creative […]

Mars and the Scorpio Full Moon

Scorpio Full MoonNow that the Grand Cross is beginning to unwind there is a bit more movement and a sense of increased possibilities rather than that feeling of being stuck in crisis that so many of us have had over the past few months.

Mars is at a virtual standstill, so if it (at 9-10 degrees Libra) is hitting a sensitive point in your chart or the charts of those around you, there could still be some eruptions as frustrations build to a peak and find release.

Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio, and we have a Scorpio Full Moon coming up on May 14th so the influence of Mars is increased exponentially.  Mars of course was the god of war, and nobody really likes war except for the most aggressive of warriors.  And it’s true that Mars inspires aggression and anger, but it also creates enthusiasm and motivates and inspires us.

Because Mars is still blocked by the other planets of the Grand Cross its expression is not as complete as it might otherwise be which means some conscious effort is required to unlock it so that we can utilize it well rather than become frustrated by it.  Essentially that means moving our bodies and releasing any stuck energy through physical activity wherever possible.  If we feel fatigued that often means that Mars is not being able to fire its energy through the physical body, and moving our body through walking, dance, yoga, or any other way that we enjoy will help to release the blocks so that that energy can move freely and inspire and motivate.

Under the Scorpio Full Moon the passion of Mars will become even more pronounced, but that passion may be more internalized as […]

The Blood Moon Tetrad – prophecy and science

blood moon

Tuesday’s Full Moon eclipse is part of a relatively rare event known as a “Tetrad,” a series of four total lunar eclipses in a row.  While eclipses are not uncommon (we typically see two pairs of eclipses each year although there is often deviation from that pattern), total eclipses are less common and a series of four total lunar eclipses in a row is even more rare. (For more about the eclipse see this earlier article.)

In the total eclipse the Moon often seems to glow with an eerie red color, inspiring the name “Blood Moon.”  An ancient Biblical prophecy in the Book of Joel says that “The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes.”  Some Biblical prophecists (is that a word?) have looked at lunar tetrads and their relationship to Jewish holidays as being significant event for the Jewish people, and because this first “blood moon” falls on Passover, these writers propose that the tetrads of 2014-2015 will have great significance for Israel and consequently, lead to the return of Christ.

However, Passover always falls on a Full Moon, and a total eclipse can only happen on a Full Moon so the correlation is not that unlikely.

This article makes some interesting connections, and then disputes them:

Even rarer is a phenomenon that Mark Biltz discovered. Of the 87 tetrads that have occurred since the time of Christ, only 8 have fallen on Jewish feast days. Those eight occurred in the following years: 162-163, 795-796, 842-843, 860-861, 1428-1429, 1493-1494, 1949-1950 and 1967-1968.9

For an example of what is meant by a tetrad falling on Jewish feast […]
