Scorpio Full Moon on May 10th brings gifts of transformation

Scorpio Full Moon May 2017

Full Moons bring out the contradictions within us, and that is because in the Full Moon the Sun is opposite the Moon, in two opposite signs with opposing polarities.  This Scorpio Full Moon features an opposition to the Taurus Sun: the intensity and passion of Scorpio needs to find balance against the need for serenity and peacefulness of Taurus.  Both are fixed signs: stubborn and powerful, with a tendency towards rigidity and difficulty letting go.  Scorpio, though, is intensely emotional and dramatic where Taurus is, or at least wants to be, placid but still powerful – very like the bull for which it is named.  This Full Moon reminds us that we can become our best selves when we find balance between these two dynamics:  the power of emotions and the power of stillness.

Pluto, the planet of transformation is the modern ruler of the Scorpio Moon, and Pluto harmonizes in a trine to the Taurus Sun at the Full Moon.  Pluto strips away all artifice to bring us into close contact with the absolute Truth of our very existence.  Under this influence we can emerge fully from the chaos of confusion into the transformation of the true Self.

This Full Moon urges us to find balance between the comfortable (Taurus Sun) and the deep and meaningful (Scorpio Moon) – to venture fearlessly into the Underworld of the psyche (Pluto) and find the gifts of transformation.

Mercury is in fiery Aries right now, and for the next two weeks or so it is traveling with Uranus, planet of radical behavior and change. This is a time of excitement and insight, but not particularly restful. Meditation can help to quiet the mind and promote well-being, but there is a great deal of creativity available to us under this influence which encourages us to think outside the box and find new ways of looking at our world.  This influence peaks at the Full Moon and blows open the doors of perception so that we can see more clearly into the multidimensional Universe.

Two aspects (square to Neptune and trine to Jupiter) involving the traditional ruler of Scorpio, Mars (drive and desire),  will blur our outer vision but also energize and infuse us with confidence, promoting confusion and instability but also enhancing our ability to see more clearly with our inner eye and allow the Divine to infuse us with its creative force. Fortunately a harmonious dance between Mercury (mind) and Saturn (stability) helps to ground us and help us to find inner balance.

To get the maximum benefit from this Full Moon you will want to delve into your subconscious.  What are your truest desires, the ones most compatible with your highest Self, and where are you standing in your own way?  What do you need to release from your life in order to become the person you know you are meant to be?  Where are you creating unnecessary drama, and where can you look to find greater peace?  Every Full Moon offers a window into the soul for greater self-understanding, but this one is more potent than most!

Venus in ascendance: Libra Full Moon and Venus at a standstill

“Moon Mates” by Goldenwolfen

The Full Moon in Libra takes place the evening of April 10th or morning of April 11th, depending on your time zone (6:08 am GMT on April 11th).  This Full Moon is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, harmony, beauty, romance, attraction, and wealth.  Known as the “lesser benefic,” Venus generally bestows blessings of harmonious energies and opens the heart if well aspected.

Venus has been retrograde since March 4th, turning our attention to the past and bringing us in contact with people, events and issues which we may have thought were long past.  Retrograde Venus is important for helping us to realign our relationships with our current selves, but it is not always an easy path.  Venus is stationary in the sky right now as it prepares to turn direct in a few days and we may feel somewhat stuck, unable to move forwards but also not able to let go of the past.

To complicate matters further, Venus is locked in a tight conjunction to Chiron, the planet of wounding and healing.  This combination of planets is superb for growing through circumstances which may have prevented us from opening our hearts in the past – IF we face the demons that are presented to us at this time.  The heart cannot open if it is full of resentment and blame, and Venus/Chiron combinations will bring these to the forefront so that they may be resolved.

At the time of the lunation, the Libra Moon aligns with Jupiter, also in Libra, further amplifying the Libran urge to find balance and harmony through justice and common ground. All Full Moons incorporate a need to find  balance between two polarities, the Sun in one and the Moon in another and this is no exception.  The polarity here is a balance between our own personal needs (Aries) and finding our own equilibrium and inner balance (Libra).

This Full Moon interacts with Uranus, Pluto AND Jupiter, setting off the big Uranus/Pluto cycle once again and fomenting an irrepressible urge to break through barriers (Pluto), throw off any shackles that may bind you (Uranus) and find your own way (Jupiter).  Libra dislikes conflict, but under this influence conflict will be difficult to avoid.  The ideal path is not around any conflict that should come up, but directly through it, maintaining the Aries focus on self-preservation while using the Libran awareness of both sides of every issue to find resolution and healing.

Full Moon in Virgo March 12 2017: Order out of Chaos

Art by Willow Arlenea

Every Full Moon is full of gifts and blessings, and this one is no exception.  Virgo is an earth sign, which means it helps us to ground into our bodies and the physical realm.  Ruled by Mercury, the planet of the mind, it also helps us to ground our thoughts and ideas into a structure and organization that can aid us in finding greater balance.

Balance and integration is critical right now, since there is an abundance of planets in the more transcendent sign of Pisces including the Sun, which opposes the Virgo Moon.  Pisces takes us into mysterious and unknown regions of imagination and dreams, calling us like the Sirens of the ancient world to leave behind our mundane reality and enter into a realm of magic.

The Moon is at her most powerful at the Full Moon, when her light outshines the light of the Sun and the instincts and emotions of the Moon dominate the Solar consciousness.  The Virgo Moon is in her ascendance now, and anchors us to the earth as we try to fly beyond it.  This can create a sense of imbalance and perhaps even inner chaos as we strive to find the clarity of ordering the mundane details of our lives (Virgo) in the midst of an explosion of creative power (Pisces).

There is a tight conjunction of planets to the Pisces Sun right now, including Chiron (wounding and healing) and Mercury (the mind and communication).  Chiron facilitates our deeper wisdom and knowledge of our own emotional motivations, and Mercury opens the mind to greater clarity.

Mercury is the traditional ruler of Virgo, and I have long argued for Chiron as the modern ruler of Virgo, so the significance of both Virgo rulers conjoined with the Sun at this Virgo Full Moon accelerates the power of this soul-opening alignment.  A harmonious trine from Pluto (power and transformation) helps to inspire us to utilize this energy for our highest good.

The gift and blessing of this Full Moon is in finding solid ground (Virgo) in the midst of magic and transcendence (Pisces); to facilitate an intellectual understanding (Sun/Chiron/Mercury) that is balanced with a spiritual knowledge (Pisces), and the ability to create order (Virgo) in the midst of chaos (Pisces).

February 26 2017 Pisces Solar Eclipse Awakens the Inner Eye

"Water Magic" by Jasmin Junger

An annular solar eclipse will take place on February 26, 2017 in the sign of Pisces, sign of the fish.  As with all solar eclipses, this is a Pisces New Moon and there are actually a total of five planets in Pisces which makes this an extremely fishy eclipse! Under the influence of Pisces we are inspired to let go of the material world, the “reality based” world, and find inspiration and magic in the realms that cannot easily be seen.

Not only is the New Moon in Pisces, but the Sun and Moon are closely aligned with Neptune, the ruler of Pisces, which doubles the watery magic of this eclipse.

During a solar eclipse the light of the Moon, the instinctive subconscious and intuitive realm, covers the light of the Sun and its conscious attention to the world.  Darkness is illuminated by the inner light, but if we are looking at the world through our worldly eyes it will seem dark as dark can be.  This is an opportunity for the inner eye to open and the inner self to make itself known..

At this time we have stelliums (planet groupings) primarily in watery Pisces and fiery Aries – the Aries planets energize us and push us towards action and a force of will while Pisces urges peace and calm and a letting go of our own personal needs to merge with the great Beyond and infinite bliss.  This is no time for action – actions taken now will likely be confused and irrational.  Until the Moon moves into Aries on the 28th, utilize this time to explore the inner reaches of your mind and your heart.  Spend time grounding in the forest or swimming in a bath or pool, or if you’re in a temperate climate, in the Piscean ocean.  Discover what your own inner voices have to say and turn down the noise around you.

A powerful alignment of Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto is strong at the time of the eclipse, urging us to liberate ourselves (Jupiter/Uranus) from situations that hold us back or keep us from becoming fully empowered and whole (Pluto).  We can feel the pressure of this urge to expand and grow beyond our limits but may not know how to accomplish this or what steps to take.  Under the Pisces eclipse the inner doorways will begin to open, and the way will become clear if we look with our inner eye rather than the mind.

Lunar eclipse in Leo, February 10 2017: A fiery awakening

Photo from Deviant Art

Eclipses are said to awaken something which has been hidden – to unmask and expose truth.  The eclipse in Leo demands that we look at the ways in which we express our ego (Leo) and purify these expressions so that they truly reflect the depths of who we are (Aquarius).  This dance between the development of the personal Self (Leo) and the more detached and reasoned way of looking at the world (Aquarius) is a tricky one.

Fortunately this eclipse features a Grand Trine in fire, stimulating a desire for change and action, that is part of a Kite formation that grounds itself into the Aquarius Sun.  Kites are powerful aspects for transformation – they take the harmonious flow of the trine and activate it with an opposition that provides tension and a boost of energy.  The Grand Trine features Saturn in Sagittarius for earthy stability, Uranus in Aries for awakening and inspiration, and the Leo Moon for heart opening and embrace of Self.  And the Aquarius Sun, opposite the Moon, locks in the Kite and opens the doorways to higher understanding.

In addition, Jupiter (optimism and faith) harmonizes in a trine to the Sun, showering blessings and general good feelings throughout the eclipse event.

This is not a powerful eclipse astrologically – the lunar nodes are in a different sign that the Sun and Moon which weakens the effect. Asronomically it is a “penumbral” eclipse as only some of the Sun’s light is blocked by the shadow of Earth on the lunar face.  But there is a lovely energy to this lunar event which will be available to us if we are open to it.
