Wisdom for the upcoming eclipse

Michael Erlewine, owner of the Matrix astrology software company and the new website Astrology Land, posted a wonderful note on his Facebook page about the upcoming eclipse.  If you are on Facebook you can see the note here, otherwise here are the highlights”

Eclipses are powerful. In the astrological literature of not only the West, but also that of India, China, and Tibet it is clearly noted that if Full and New Moons are key times in the lunar cycle, then eclipses are yet of another order of magnitude stronger in their effect on our lives.

When the tradition says that eclipses are powerful, don’t look around outside yourself for some fearsome event to take place. That’s not it. We tend to think that it is the outside events that affect us most, and yet the most powerful events are those that take place inside us, somewhere in there toward our center. These are the events that actually control the periphery of our lives, all that is on the outside. In other words, our inside-changes control the outside more than vice-versa. When something changes deep within us, this can set into motion a whole string of events that really is life-changing.

Tradition states that every Full or New Moon, but especially when an eclipse occurs, has a certain tone or impulse (call it a vibration) that we may or may not resonate or pick up on at the particular time. It is made available, but we are not always receptive to it. This impulse or deep resonance is present around the times of an eclipse, either before, during, or after the actual physical event of the eclipse. It is not a matter of an exact minute, but a more general kind of thing… […]

Capricorn Full Moon eclipse June 26, complete with Grand Cross

Saturday’s Full Moon is also a partial lunar eclipse, and includes a powerful alignment of seven planets in a Grand Cross formation.

Let’s first look at the lunation (lunar event) itself.  The Sun in Cancer is opposed by the Moon in Capricorn, and because the lunar nodes are within 15 degrees of the Moon (in this case the nodes are 8 degrees from the Moon) the lunation becomes an eclipse.

This in itself is significant, because the lunar nodes are connected to the evolutionary journey of the soul, from past (the South Node) to future (North Node).  Here we have the South Node conjoining the Sun, with the North Node conjunct the Moon.  The Sun represents our conscious awareness, and the Moon reflects the inner yearings of the soul, our emotional interior which rarely makes itself known to the outer world.  With the North Node conjunct the Moon, we are being shifted into an inner experience – the lunar experience rather than the solar.

Here the Moon is in Capricorn, an earth sign of supreme practicality.  Achievement, responsibility, structure – these are not qualities that we normally attribute to the Moon.  In fact, the Moon is said to be in its detriment in Capricorn because its qualities of emotion and fluidity have little room in the structured world in which Capricorn excels.  Yet the North Node is urging us to embrace the gravity of our situation with all of the heart that the Moon can muster as a means to our soul’s evolution during this eclipse of the Sun.

During the eclipse of the Sun the Moon becomes more powerful – even more powerful than it is in an ordinary Full Moon.  Eclipses have been feared for thousands of years, […]

New Moon in Gemini, June 12 2010

New Moon Gemini June 12For the next few weeks with Mercury in its own sign of Gemini the mental realm is activated, helping ideas to flow smoothly and aiding our ability to adapt to new circumstances. This process is facilitated by the Gemini New Moon on June 12th. The New Moon phase offers an opportunity for a new beginning, and in Gemini this opportunity takes us into the mental realm where we experiment with new ideas and ways of living our life before actually manifesting these ideas into form.
Gemini is the sign that is associated with the mind, but it also has to do with accepting a wide variety of ideas and experimenting with many different kinds of experiences.  Gemini is wide open – everything is considered to have value for its own sake, and there is a keen desire to learn about many things.
The Gemini New Moon is the perfect time to set aside our prejudices and look at our world through new eyes.  What can we learn about the ideas of others; what changes can we make in our lives to give us more flexibility and make it easier to adapt to change.
This New Moon is squared by Saturn, the Lord of Form and Structure, suggesting that there will be some struggle at this New Moon to reconcile the practical aspects of the thought forms we create at this time.  But a harmonious sextile from Venus to Saturn helps us to link the creative force within us (Venus) to our desire to achieve and manifest (Saturn), and a harmonious sextile from Neptune to Ceres can reveal more completely the thread between our spiritual world (Neptune) and the world around us (Ceres).
The […]

Full Moon in Sagittarius: May 27 2010

Sagittarius Full Moon

Tomorrow’s Full Moon is in Sagittarius, straddling the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity of learning and knowledge.  When the Moon is full, it is actually in direct opposition to the Sun which will be in Gemini and we see the Sun’s light totally reflected by the Moon without any earthly interference.

Zodiacal polarities are opposites, with each sign having something that the other lacks.  Gemini wants to take in every single bit of information without discrimination, just for the sake of learning and gaining experience.  Sagittarius, on the other hand, seeks greater focus and understanding with a desire to learn what is true and what is not.

This is the polarity that we balance in the Sagittarian Full Moon.

We also have the power of Saturn and Neptune bearing down with their full force since they are both stationary and preparing to change direction.  Saturn seeks to hold us back, and Neptune is all about achieving a higher state of consciousness.

Uranus also enters Aries the day of the Full Moon, so this is a fiery and impulsive period where we are shooting all of our arrows at once.  Yet at the same time, we are very aware of Saturn’s restraint and Neptune’s clouding of our vision.  We’re shooting arrows, but where are they going?  Where is our focus?  What are our goals?

If we utilize the time leading up to this event to make sure we are adequately protected and that these arrows are focused in the direction that will lead us on the correct path, this will be a powerful lunar event that can help to launch us ever closer to our dreams.

New Moon in Taurus, May 13, 2010

Earth Goddess

The New Moon in Taurus on the 13th is a very dynamic one despite the natural placidity of the Taurean energy.

At the New Moon the solar principle of conscious mind and will is fused with the lunar principle of instinct and emotion, making New Moons the perfect time to begin something new.
In Taurus the Moon is moving from the initiation of Aries to an appreciation for a life that is more grounded. There is a greater need for security and for a life that feels connected to the earth in some way, either through the natural cycles of life or through the five senses of the body. More than any other sign, Taurus values all aspect of life in a body and this is a good place to start in this New Moon period.
The New Moon here is squared by Mars in Leo, suggesting some conflict between the urge for a more earth-bound life (Taurus) and the need for more action and self-expression (Leo).  Challenging aspects can create some tension between two differing impulses, and then it is up to us to integrate and balance.  So with this New Moon we are being asked to find that comfortable place of strength (Taurus) while still attending to the need to assert ourselves (Mars) in a way that helps us to find the truest self-expression (Leo).
The energy of the Saturn/Uranus opposition is also present here, presenting a dilemma that necessitates creating balance between the past and the future.  This opposition has been moving in and out since the fall of 2008 and is nearly complete, but in the meantime that balance between bringing in something new, fresh and different (Uranus) and relying on reliable structures […]
