Full Moon in Sagittarius: May 27 2010

Sagittarius Full Moon

Tomorrow’s Full Moon is in Sagittarius, straddling the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity of learning and knowledge.  When the Moon is full, it is actually in direct opposition to the Sun which will be in Gemini and we see the Sun’s light totally reflected by the Moon without any earthly interference.

Zodiacal polarities are opposites, with each sign having something that the other lacks.  Gemini wants to take in every single bit of information without discrimination, just for the sake of learning and gaining experience.  Sagittarius, on the other hand, seeks greater focus and understanding with a desire to learn what is true and what is not.

This is the polarity that we balance in the Sagittarian Full Moon.

We also have the power of Saturn and Neptune bearing down with their full force since they are both stationary and preparing to change direction.  Saturn seeks to hold us back, and Neptune is all about achieving a higher state of consciousness.

Uranus also enters Aries the day of the Full Moon, so this is a fiery and impulsive period where we are shooting all of our arrows at once.  Yet at the same time, we are very aware of Saturn’s restraint and Neptune’s clouding of our vision.  We’re shooting arrows, but where are they going?  Where is our focus?  What are our goals?

If we utilize the time leading up to this event to make sure we are adequately protected and that these arrows are focused in the direction that will lead us on the correct path, this will be a powerful lunar event that can help to launch us ever closer to our dreams.

New Moon in Taurus, May 13, 2010

Earth Goddess

The New Moon in Taurus on the 13th is a very dynamic one despite the natural placidity of the Taurean energy.

At the New Moon the solar principle of conscious mind and will is fused with the lunar principle of instinct and emotion, making New Moons the perfect time to begin something new.
In Taurus the Moon is moving from the initiation of Aries to an appreciation for a life that is more grounded. There is a greater need for security and for a life that feels connected to the earth in some way, either through the natural cycles of life or through the five senses of the body. More than any other sign, Taurus values all aspect of life in a body and this is a good place to start in this New Moon period.
The New Moon here is squared by Mars in Leo, suggesting some conflict between the urge for a more earth-bound life (Taurus) and the need for more action and self-expression (Leo).  Challenging aspects can create some tension between two differing impulses, and then it is up to us to integrate and balance.  So with this New Moon we are being asked to find that comfortable place of strength (Taurus) while still attending to the need to assert ourselves (Mars) in a way that helps us to find the truest self-expression (Leo).
The energy of the Saturn/Uranus opposition is also present here, presenting a dilemma that necessitates creating balance between the past and the future.  This opposition has been moving in and out since the fall of 2008 and is nearly complete, but in the meantime that balance between bringing in something new, fresh and different (Uranus) and relying on reliable structures […]

Happy Beltane and Wesak 2010

A portion of this article is reposted from previous work

(A portion of this article is reprinted from an earlier post)

In ancient Celtic times, the wheel of the year was honored as the turning of the seasons. In the northern hemispheres, the winter solstice was the shortest day of the year and represented the return of the light, and the summer solstice, being the longest day of the year, was the Celtic fire festival. The equinoxes represented the points of balance when day and night were of equal length: the vernal equinox represented planting and fertility, and the autumnal equinox was the time of harvest. (Southern hemisphere civilizations had their own traditions of marking the seasons which obviously were very different than in the north.)

Halfway between these solar events are the “cross-quarter” days, the times of magic. Still celebrated today for their imaginal power, these were the periods when the Sun was at the midpoint of the fixed signs: Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius. In the astrological wheel, the cardinal signs of initiation are followed by the fixed signs of stability, which are followed in turn by the mutable signs of adaptation. So we have cardinal Aries at the Vernal equinox (in tropical astrology), followed by fixed Taurus at the cross-quarter, which precedes mutable Gemini. Cancer begins the summer solstice, followed by Leo at the cross-quarter, which precedes Virgo, and so it goes around the wheel.

Each of these “triplicities” as they are called has a different energy. The cardinal signs demonstrate leadership, they initiate action, each in its own way according to its element (fire, water, earth and air). The fixed signs are stable, rooted, grounded. In many ways they are the most powerful because they don’t […]

Scorpio Full Moon, April 27

The Scorpio Full Moon on April 28th features a number of powerful aspects and this lunar event is likely to carry a fair amount of intensity with it.  Scorpio is the sign of intensity and passion – under the Scorpio influence we reach deep into the underworld of emotions to where our feelings are raw and true.  This is no time for superficiality!

The Full Moon occurs when the Sun is opposite the Moon, and brings about the need for balance and integration. Here the centerpoint occurs between the peaceful harmony and stability of Taurus and the fiery emotional depth of Scorpio.  With any opposition, integration is required as the two opposite ends of the spectrum seek expression.  While we penetrate deep into the realm of feeling (Scorpio), we also require a sense of balance and serenity (Taurus) in order to gain the true power of this Full Moon.

This Full Moon features a “T-square” with a conjunction of Mercury to the Sun, suggesting that the mind is to be fully engaged at this time with reason and that understanding playing a key part in the dance.

A square of Mars to the Sun/Mercury conjunction on the one side, and the Scorpio Moon on the other, completes the T-square with a powerful burst of energy and aggression. Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio and this tight aspect to the lunation heightens the emotional intensity that is present at that time.

Under this Mars influence we may become aware of hidden causes of anger and frustration, and […]

Aries New Moon today!

The Aries New Moon on April 14th brings with it a tremendous amount of fresh new inspiration. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and the sign that marks the beginning of Spring, and the New Moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle. So here we have the beginning of the solar cycle combining with the initiation of the lunar cycle and providing an opportunity for a fresh start.

Aries asks the question:  What is it that I need?  Who am I as an individual, apart from the trappings of ego and society’s opinions?  Where do I need to be courageous and take on something new?  These are the issues that are at the forefront now.

The New Moon contains the energy of the opposition between Saturn to Uranus, so while there is the inspiration for a new beginning, there is an inherent tension that requires us to look for a way to integrate and balance the old order (Saturn) with the new (Uranus).

This New Moon is in a nice sextile to Chiron and Neptune which will bring in the soulful (Neptune) healing (Chiron) energy of that conjunction to heal the past as we move forward into the future. However, a conjunction of Pluto to Ceres will uncover any deep grief or disconnect between the Soul and the Spirit, requiring a greater level of integration. Pluto will intensify the excitement of the New Moon and bring in a deeper sense of meaning and soul transformation.
