Bill Clinton’s heart ailment: Chiron and the Sun

Bill Clinton underwent an angioplasty yesterday to open a clogged heart artery after experiencing chest pains.  Doctors say he is recovering normally and should be able to renew his normal activities soon.

However, I have some concerns about the health of the former president.  Bill Clinton has the Sun in Leo, the sign of development and expression of the Self, and he has Libra rising which is often called the Peacemaker.  Clinton can be quite charming with four planets in Libra plus Chiron, but he also has a rather nasty conjunction of Mars and Neptune sitting right on the ascendant which .

The Sun in the birthchart represents the physical heart, and stressful aspects to the Sun can sometimes bring on heart ailments that then disappear after the planetary cycle is over.  When Saturn squared Clinton’s progressed Sun in late August/September of 2004, he underwent open heart surgery and has been free from problems until now.

At the moment, the combination of Chiron and Neptune, which have been conjunct in the sky for the past year or so and will continue to travel within three degrees of each other throughout the year, are now in an exact opposition (180 degrees) from Clinton’s Sun.  This is a stressful aspect that can bring about the need for emotional healing as well as physical healing.  The conjunction of Chiron and Neptune has been a rather intense experience for many people (you can read more about that planetary combination here) over the past year but now it will hit Clinton particularly hard.

Chiron’s role as the “Wounded Healer” facilitates the release of old psychic and emotional wounds so that we can become more fully healed.  We all walk around with […]

This Full Moon is a Supermoon

Full Moon Supermoonphoto taken from

The Full Moon on January 30st will be a very interesting event – so interesting that it’s getting its own radio show entitled “.”  It’s not only a powerful Moon astrologically, but it’s at perigee, meaning it’s at its closest proximity to the Earth.  This is why it is so big and beautiful, but it’s also more powerful now.  says it’s the biggest Full Moon of the year, and astrologer , who coined the term “Supermoon” as far as I can tell, predicts “an increase in coastal flooding due to higher than usual tides, a gaggle of strong storms with high winds and heavy precipitation (triggering inland flooding), and of course an up-tick in moderate to severe seismic activity (including magnitude 5+ earthquakes as well as volcanic eruptions).”

This Full Moon will stoke the fires of our inner aggression and challenge us to direct that fire wisely. The Moon is in the fire sign of Leo – the sign of expressing the Ego and expansion of the Self. The Leo Moon conjoins Mars, also in Leo, and opposes the Sun and Venus which are both in the impersonal (or transpersonal) sign of Aquarius.

The theme of this Full Moon is that of balancing the shadow of the inner fire for self-direction with the solar conscious principle of fairness and justice for all. This balance is not easy to achieve, but we have in the chart of this Full Moon the additional aid of a harmonious sextile between Pluto (transformation) and Jupiter (philosophy and Truth). We are certainly aware that our personal desires (Moon/Mars) are conflicting with what we know to be necessary in order […]

Full Moon, Blue Moon, Eclipse Moon and Other Planetary News

Once in a Blue Moon,
A gorgeous big moon followed me home tonight, even though she technically won’t be full until the afternoon of New Year’s Eve.  This is a Blue Moon because it’s the second Full Moon in a month, something that doesn’t happen very often (hence the term “once in a blue moon”).  It’s also an eclipse, because the lunar nodes are involved; however, it’s a partial eclipse and not very powerful astrologically.
The Full Moon occurs when the lunar principle of the subconscious inner world overpowers the solar conscious mind with its brilliance as the Moon opposes the Sun in the sky, with the Earth between them.  At the Full Moon we earthlings are sandwiched between these two archetypal forces, and the experience of the Full Moon can be intensely emotional and unexpected.
This particular Full Moon is in the sign of Cancer, its own sign, suggesting that our sensitive emotional natures will be highlighted at this time.  The emotions of Cancer are vulnerable and tender and easily hurt, and the Moon now is opposed to four planets in the pragmatic and rather rigid sign of Capricorn.  The Capricorn lineup includes a tight conjunction of the Sun, Venus (relating) and Pluto (transformation, death, and rebirth).  There is a feeling now that every emotion we experience is critical and can act as a doorway, and a need to create balance in our own emotional world as well as in our relationships.
A lunar event becomes an eclipse when the nodes of the Moon become involved.  The Moon’s nodes represent the evolutionary direction of the soul, so when the nodes are tightly connected to a Full or New Moon there […]

New Moon in Sagittarius!!

Crescent Moon Gatherer, by Mark Coyle.
The New Moon in Sagittarius occurs at 7:02 am EST on the morning of December 16th.
New Moons are times of new beginnings, and this New Moon offers the potential of a brand new understanding of what gives our life meaning. This is the realm that Sagittarius governs, and this New Moon also offers the potential for a radical shift in our understanding with a challenging square to Uranus, planet of shock and awe. It is likely that under this influence we will need to adjust our awareness as the new levels of meaning begin to permeate our consciousness.
This New Moon is well aspected, with the Triple Conjunction of Jupiter (optimism and positive feelings), Chiron (wisdom) and Neptune (greater spiritual awareness) offering an opportunity to help us to make the required adjustments to our patterns of belief so that we can find deeper levels of meaning.
The Saturn/Pluto square is embedded in this lunation (lunar event), adding a sense of the importance of every adjustment that we make now in the overall scheme of what is required from us. But a lovely trine from Venus to Mars helps to energize us and ensure success in our interactions with others.
I really like what about Sagittarius:

To move in the direction of Sagittarius truth always requires a leap of faith and confidence in what we know. In pursuing this path, there’s the danger of becoming insular and overzealous, of refusing to listen at all to other points of view. The utter conviction that serves Sagittarius so well in many situations can sometimes cause problems if we assume our […]

Gemini Full Moon, December 1-2, 2009

Art-First Hour of Full Moon.gif

The Moon is becoming gloriously full, and will reach her pinnacle at 2:30 am on Wednesday the 2nd Eastern time (7:30 am UTC, and 11:30 pm on December 1st if you’re in the Pacific time zone).  There is a lot of energy packed into this Full Moon in Gemini!
When the Moon is full, the Sun and Moon are opposite each other from our perspective on earth, and the lunar light is allowed to shine without being hidden from the Sun’s light which is usually more powerful.  Because the Moon represents the dark and the unknown- the mysterious emotional depths that are often hidden even from ourselves – the time of the Full Moon illuminates our inner hearts in a way that is not otherwise often experienced.
This Full Moon is in Gemini, the sign of communication, changeability, short trips, and anything of a mercurial nature, and Mercury, the planet of communication and the mind that is the ruler of Gemini, is very active in the chart of this Full Moon.  Mercury is in a challenging square to Uranus, the planet of radical thinking and change, so there is a tendency towards impulsive thinking and hasty speech as well as a heightened sensitivity of the nervous system.  Don’t be surprised by emotional outbursts of all kinds, and those of us with anxious natures may find ourselves with a case of the jitters.
Uranus has just changed direction, so it’s influence is stronger than usual.  Uranus inspires innovation and change, and can bring about sudden and surprising events that turn our world around.  There is also the danger of accidents and equipment failures […]
