Full Moon in Pisces today

You may have seen the beautiful waxing Moon illuminated by Jupiter over the past few nights as the Moon passed through Aquarius and transited Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune.  Today at around noon Eastern the Sun and Moon oppose each other in the polarity that we call the Full Moon.

The Pisces Full Moon is all about connecting to Spirit, to the Divine within us, to our imagination and a sense of magic.  However, when the Moon is full in Pisces it opposes the Sun in practical Virgo so there is a necessity to balance that dreaminess with a firm footing in the material world.

The Full Moon is the peak of the waxing phase of the lunar cycle and begins the waning phase of completion, so this is a time of culmination of the dreams and ideals (Pisces) so that we can harvest the seeds that we have sown. The stationary Mercury reminds us that we are entering a time to look back and reassess the details of our life, but the Pisces Full Moon urges us to seek solace in the never-ending flow of the soul that forms the true center of our being.

New Moon in Leo today!

The New Moon occurs in late Leo, and in opposition to the Triple Conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune.  New Moons occur when the Sun conjoins the Moon and begins a brand new lunar cycle.  These are good times to begin new projects, especially now as we head into the shadow of the Mercury Retrograde period that begins on September 7th.

The opposition to the Big Three (Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune) shows that in order to create a new beginning with the new lunar cycle, something from the past must be rectified, or surrendered, or transformed.  Jupiter asks that we open our minds to possibilities that are larger than what we might expect.  Chiron seeks to heal wounds from the past that may still be problematic.  And Neptune calls on us to hear the sweet and quiet voice of the Spirit within that connects us to a deep sense of our purpose and our true path.

Leo is the sign of the Self – our sense of Self, our ability to express ourselves and develop a healthy ego and individuality.  Leo is also the sign of royalty, encouraging us to fulfill the role that was served by kings and queens in ancient times of bridging the gap between humanity and the gods.  There is a nobility to Leo and a deep inner sense of importance that walks a tightrope between the healthy ego and attachment to the gratification of the ego.  Leo also suggests the beauty of the divine child.  You may want to listen to the edition of Astrological Musings Radio .

This is the perfect time to begin a process of self-understanding, or something that is creative.  and […]

The Solar Eclipse unmasks the fact that racism is alive and well

The major force of the eclipse is now behind us, although its influence will linger for the next few days.  Eclipses are often associated with the “unmasking” of something that has been hidden – in the solar eclipse, the power of the lunar unconscious force unmasks that which has been hidden from the conscious mind.

So here we have the revelation that Professor Henry Louis Gates, arrested last Thursday (July 16) was arrested for trying to open the front door of his own home in Cambridge Massachusetts after a passer-by called the police to report a break-in. There is some debate over whether Dr. Gates provided identification when asked, but I know from personal experience with friends how sensitive these things can be, and I can just imagine how Dr. Gates would feel, returning from a long trip to China and probably exhausted, being confronted on his own front porch and asked for identification.

The eclipse fell about five degrees from the 8th house Mercury (communication) in the US chart, provoking discussion and inquiry (Mercury) about the hidden motives and power imbalances (8th house)  that are still alive in the US.  I sometimes think that it’s the African Americans who hold the cards now – we have a black president, everyone wants to be hip and talk like black people, and our most powerful cultural leaders are black.  But evidently there are still pockets of prejudice left to be cleansed.

The Chiron/Neptune conjunction (together with Jupiter) occurred within a degree from the Moon in the US chart.  The Moon in a national chart represents the heart of the people, and the Chiron/Neptune conjunction is serving to open up old wounds (Chiron) to be healed so that […]

Solar eclipse pits superstition against transformation

An article in Yahoo News yesterday was entitled “Solar eclipse pits superstition against science,” but to me there is no better example of the split between traditional Vedic astrologers and “modern” transformational or evolutionary astrologers.  I welcome my Vedic astrologer readers to chime in on this topic and look forward to an interesting discussion.

From the article:

Indian astrologers are predicting violence and turmoil across the world as a result of this week’s total solar eclipse, which the superstitious and religious view as a sign of potential doom.

But astronomers, scientists and secularists are trying to play down claims of evil portent in connection with Wednesday’s natural spectacle, when the moon will come between the Earth and the sun, completely obscuring the sun.

In Hindu mythology, the two demons Rahu and Ketu are said to “swallow” the sun during eclipses, snuffing out its life-giving light and causing food to become inedible and water undrinkable.

Pregnant women are advised to stay indoors to prevent their babies developing birth defects, while prayers, fasting and ritual bathing, particularly in holy rivers, are encouraged….

In point of fact, the effects of the eclipse ARE likely to be felt more powerfully across India since that is the path of the total eclipse.  Because astrology is so much more accepted in India, there are many more astrologers and many more of them follow the traditional line of thinking.  In the West, astrology was lost for many hundreds of years and when it was reclaimed over the past few hundred years it was able to grow and evolve along with the consciousness of the masses.  It’s interesting to me that Indian astrologers sometimes use this fact to support their claim that Vedic astrology, or Jyotish, is superior to Western astrology.  But as you’ve heard me say a million times, […]
