New Moon coming up!

The New Moon in Taurus occurs May 16 at 3:28 pm EST. Taurus craves nothing more than peace and stability, and a square from Neptune to the New Moon suggests that our fantasies and ideals (Neptune) exceed our acquisitive grasp (Moon). Neptune opens up our spirits to the creative force of divine inspiration and brings music and the arts, but the square reveals the possibility for too much of a good thing and the likelihood of losing oneself in one’s imagination. In Taurus we are more easily able to ground our imagination and inspiration into more solid forms of art and life.

New Moons are usually excellent times to begin new projects; in Taurus these new projects will want to satisfy the Taurean longing for beauty in life as well as in possessions and property. The Taurus New Moon centers our focus on abundance and prosperity – fertility and fecundity are emphasized now. This is not a great time for travel or adventure, but rather to bloom where we are planted.

Scorpio Full Moon! And other planetary news

fullmoonsaill
From Skywatch for May, posted this morning:

There are two Full Moons in May, the first of which is on May 2 at 6:10 am EST in Scorpio. Scorpio is the sign of intensity and passion, the impulse that pulls us into the deepest part of our soul and forces us to experience life in the most profound way possible. The Full Moon occurs when the Moon opposes the Sun, and although the Sun illuminates the Moon it is the lunar consciousness that prevails. Emotions run higher during the Full Moon, and we have greater access to the underworld of our psyche with the Full Moon in Scorpio.

This Full Moon incorporates a conjunction of Mercury to the Sun, suggesting that our emotions will be at odds with our thoughts and mental functioning during this period. There is also a square to Chiron which opens up doorways for old wounds that we thought were healed long ago to surface and remind us that we are not yet completely healed. A wide square to the Full Moon opposition from Saturn hints that we may find ourselves feeling isolated and alone as we face the wounds from our past that Chiron presents. This is a good time for introspection and personal work, and the inclusion of Mercury suggests that journaling or talking to a friend can be quite productive now.

Mercury is approaching a square to Chiron now that culminates on May 4 and we are likely to continue feeling the effects of Chiron’s efforts to promote healing of our mental faculties by clearing out the old wounds that we harbor within us. Fortunately, harmonious aspects from Mercury to Saturn and Uranus aid us in achieving stability (Saturn) and offering insights (Uranus) that […]

The Moon and the Seven Sisters

To remind us that in the midst of darkness there is beauty and magic in our Universe, this photo comes from Iran and shows the Moon as it conjoins the Seven Sisters of the Pleiades.

Aries New Moon and effects of Saturn and Pluto

The New Moon in Aries today seems to have swept in on a wave of aggression. The other day I posted a roundup of Marsy bloggers, and many of us have been feeling this unrest over the past few days. This New Moon makes an exact trine to Pluto, which frees up the Arian energy and makes it more available.

But there are some larger influences at play here as well: Saturn in Leo is “stationing direct,” meaning it has been traveling retrograde and it’s motion has come to a virtual standstill as it prepares to turn direct on the 19th. When a planet is stationary it’s influence becomes pronounced and “in your face.” I like to compare it to a car with a loud boombox that is parked right outside your house and battering your windows. For someone who is personally affected by a transit of Saturn right now at 18 degrees its effect is particularly powerful as Saturn’s pressure and restrictions force a confrontation for change. Sometimes the combination of a high pressure Saturn with the freed up energy of Mars such as we have with the Aries New Moon trine Pluto can bring about an explosion of aggression. And because Mars is in Pisces where it tends to be more obscure, it is especially important to release all of this energy in a positive way where it can be beneficial rather than destructive.

In addition, Pluto is virtually stationary as it retrogrades back just two degrees before turning direct again this summer. Pluto will travel back and forth over the same two degrees throughout the end of the year before leaving Sagittarius for Capricorn. Again, those of us who […]

Apologies and the Libra Full Moon

You may remember that the Full Moon in Libra on April first included a trine to Pluto, the god of transformation, and I noted in an earlier post that this seemed to have stimulated a new sense of political diplomacy. We also have been seeing a rash of apologies over the past two weeks:

  1. Here in North Carolina, the House of Representatives passed a resolution formally apologizing for slavery and Jim Crow laws.
  2. Also here in North Carolina, the “rogue prosecutor” Mike Nifong apologized to the three Duke Lacrosse players for robbing them of a year of their lives with a baseless criminal prosecution.
  3. Don Imus apologized for being his usual ass*&%$ self.
  4. Paul Wolfowitz has apologized for giving his girlfriend huge raises as part of his employment at the World Bank.
  5. Republican Mike Huckabee suggested that prominent Republican presidential candidates with a history of infidelity should apologize for their treatment of Bill Clinton.
  6. Seven states are considering bills that would permit a physician to apologize to patients without fear of liability.

Apologizing is a Libran trait – it helps to smooth the waters and bring a return of the harmony that Libra so longs for, and the compulsive influence during the Full Moon of Pluto to effect changes is creating dialogue across the country about what kind of apology is sufficient to heal the damage.
