The astrology of Elizabeth Warren

Elizabeth Warren birth chartElizabeth Warren has gained fame over the past few years as a passionate defender of the economic rights of American citizens.  She has an enthusiastic following and talk grows daily of a presidential run – talk which is continually denied by Ms. Warren.

Elizabeth Warren was born on June 22, 1949 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  When I begin to work on an astrological profile I generally try to find a birth time and Astrotheme is often a good source for that.  Astrotheme scours the internet and other sources for accurate times, but sometimes they are not so accurate. Astrotheme cites a 1:51 pm birth time for Elizabeth Warren that seems to have originated with a rectification procedure .  Rectification is a process whereby life events are carefully considered and compared with the progressed chart to identify placement of the angles (the Midheaven and Ascendant) and thereby pinpoint a time of birth.  Rectification is not 100% reliable, and without a confirmed birth time I will not be looking at the houses or Ascendant or Midheaven.

Still, we can easily see where Ms. Warren’s radical fight for fairness for the common man originates in the chart.  Her Sun is in Cancer – a placement which I have found often denotes an individual who is painfully and personally sensitive to global pain and suffering, and her Sun conjoins Uranus, the planet of radical thought and behavior.  Sun/Uranus people march to their own drummer – in fact, they set the beat and it’s nearly always something unique and surprising.

Sun/Uranus people seek fairness and liberty.  Although Ms. Warren ran for office as a Democrat, she has voted for both parties saying that neither party deserves to dominate.

In addition, her […]

The astrology of L’Wren Scott

Lwren ScottDear readers – do not despair, I will soon be bringing you soothing words to calm your fears over the upcoming Grand Cross that is causing tabloid news to shiver around the globe.  But meanwhile I have been fascinated with the personage that was L’Wren Scott who took her own life last week.

The birthchart of L’Wren Scott (born 4/28/1964 time unknown) shows someone who was born at the peak of the conjunction of Uranus to Pluto in 1964, with the Sun in Taurus.  The Uranus/Pluto conjunction presided over the huge social cataclysm that we now call “The Sixties” – individuals who were born between 1962 and 1968 carry this archetype in their charts and are driven to create social change and transformation.  Between 1964 and 1966 Saturn and Chiron opposed the Uranus/Pluto conjunction, and all of you born during those years have a certain degree of painful challenges (Saturn) and emotional wounds (Chiron) that require constant disruption and transformation (Uranus/Pluto).

What interests me about L’Wren is the difficulty she seems to have had establishing an identity of her own.  She was adopted into a Mormon family and then changed her name at age 18 when she began a career as a fashion model in Paris.  During her Saturn Return she moved to LA and became a PR rep for Prada and then a stylist to the stars.  Her chart is a lucky one, with the Sun conjunct both Mercury (intelligence) and Jupiter (good fortune), but the Sun makes an opposition to Neptune, the planet of mystical transcendence, illusion and delusion.

Neptune/Sun people find it difficult to figure out who they are, and worse, they are misperceived by others (see my earlier post on this topic).  L’Wren […]

The astrology of Dylan (Malone) Farrow and Woody Allen

Update: Dylan’s date of birth has been corrected since I first wrote this article, changing the analysis which is reflected in the edits below.

Dylan (now called Malone) Farrow has been in the news recently after surrounding Woody Allen appeared in Vanity Fair in November.  This article reports that Dylan was first molested at the age of seven, which from an astrologer’s perspective is the time of the first “Saturn Square,” when Saturn in the sky makes a square to Saturn in the birthchart.  Saturn’s orbit is 28 years, so the Saturn cycle consists of the opening square (90 degree angle) at age 7, the opposition at 14, the closing square is at age 21 and the Saturn Return ends the first cycle at age 28.

Then I was fascinated by the fact that Dylan/Malone, who has been out of the public eye for many years, revealed herself at age 28 in an article in which she discusses a suicide attempt at age 21.  So we have the first episode at age seven, a suicide attempt at age 21, and the conclusion through revelation at age 28 – clearly tied to Saturn somehow.

According to Wikipedia Dylan was born July 11, 1985.    Her progressed Saturn has been nearing a conjunction to natal Saturn over the past several years (Saturn moves slowly through the natal chart and this is a sort of progressed Saturn return) which culminated in October of 2013.   The end of that cycle coincided with the publication of the Vanity Fair article which was likely written earlier in 2013.  Her Saturn Return is exact right now which will hopefully complete the cycle of abuse and healing.

Those of […]

The astrology of Paul Walker’s death

Paul WalkerActor Paul Walker died on November 30th when a 2005 Porsche Carrera he was riding in crashed into a light pole and burst into flames.  Walker was most noted for his role in the “Fast and Furious” franchise of vehicular-oriented action films so it is ironic that he died in an automobile accident.

Automobiles are ruled by Mercury which is concerned with short journeys as opposed to plane rides to distant lands.  Mercury was important in Paul Walker’s chart in several ways: Mercury is the traditional ruler of Virgo (I personally believe that Chiron is the modern ruler of Virgo although this is a matter of interpretation) and Walker’s Sun was in Virgo, as was his Mercury.  When Mercury is in one of its own signs (Gemini is the other) it is stronger in its expression and more important in the chart, and when Mercury rules the Sun, the essential Self of the individual, its power becomes magnified to an even greater extent.

We typically don’t think of Virgos as being particularly reckless, although there is a type of Radical Virgo (such as Amy Winehouse) in which  other chart dynamics (such as Mars or Uranus placements) conflict with the Virgo element to drive the individual into reckless and radical behavior.  We don’t see that in Walker’s chart, and indeed Walker’s “Fast and Furious” character Brian O’Connor served as the steady counterpoint to Vin Diesel’s wild and testosterone-driven lead character.

This makes sense with Walker’s Taurus Mars – a slow and steady Mars that is not excitable or overly aggressive.  Mars in Taurus is the proverbial bull who is slow to anger, but when anger erupts it explodes with a powerful force.

Walker’s chart was not a particularly difficult […]
