Planetary Illuminations for July 2015 now posted

July astrological forecastIf you are on my mailing list you will soon receive your abridged version, translated into easy to understand English.  If you’re not, please sign up in the sidebar!

You can read the article in its entirety here, and meanwhile here is the summary for July’s main events.

During July there are no interactions between any of the slower moving outer planets that create intensive energies of change, but the challenging square  (90 degree angle) between Jupiter (expansion) and Saturn (restriction).  Dances between Jupiter and Saturn often create restriction in financial markets, and the first exact square alignment occurs in early August.  This cycle will continue through May/June of 2016.

Venus turns retrograde on July 25th and will be stationary for a week or so before the change of direction and remain retrograde until September 8th.  Venus rules not only love and beauty, but also describes the things we value and attract.  Therefore, it is involved in matters of wealth accumulation and personal possessions – anything that provides a sense of security.  During Venus retrograde cycles it is not uncommon to reconnect with old friends and rediscover loved ones, or repair relationships that need it.  During the retrograde period Venus will align with Jupiter three times, creating an atmosphere of beauty and joy that will help to offset the Saturn effect described above.

Uranus also turns retrograde this month but its stationary period lasts a bit longer – usually about two weeks.  Uranus will remain retrograde until December 25th, giving us plenty of time to re-examine areas of our life that require change.  Uranus is retrograde every year for about six months so this is not an unusual occurrence.

Planetary Illuminations for April 2015 now posted

I will be writing a separate article for the Full Moon Eclipse coming up on April 4th, but here is a synopsis of the major events for the month of April.

Although Uranus and Pluto are beginning to separate from the intensity of their challenging square, soothing the intensity of the push for change of the past five years, the Eclipse on April 4th will trigger these two monsters of enforced transformation one more time.

Two planets change direction this month;  Jupiter turns direct on April 8th and Pluto turns retrograde on the 16th. Both planets have slowed down to a crawl (a “station”) in preparation for its change of direction.  When a planet is stationary its influence becomes more powerful and this will be particularly true if Pluto is affecting your own chart right now.  As Lord of the Underground Pluto forces our attention into areas where we might otherwise not care to venture – the dark underground of the psyche, of emotions, of secrets.  Pluto demands that we surrender those aspects of our life which we know we have outgrown, and if we don’t follow his instructions he can become rather ruthless. Stationary Jupiter has a milder effect, especially when the experience occurs under a Pluto influence.

Still – the planetary intensity of the past few months is beginning to lessen and April brings mostly smaller cycles of the faster moving planets as we pick up the pieces of our lives after the tornado of the Uranus/Pluto square which has created so much upheaval […]

Saturn turns retrograde: The mentor at work

Saturn retrograde 2015

The planet Saturn governs restriction of all kinds – the sense of being blocked from your goals and dreams, the commitments that are required in order to establish a government, a corporation or a marriage.  Saturn can bring delays to our accomplishments and disappointments and failure.

Still, at the heart of the matter Saturn serves as a mentor.  When we want to improve our skills, we often hire a mentor or a teacher to help.  When we want to feel good about life and find big experiences to give our lives meaning, we go to Jupiter.  But if we want to apply ourselves in a serious manner to hone our craft, Saturn is a much better teacher.  A good teacher won’t pass us when our grades are failing, and will point out our faults so that we can improve.  This is not as enjoyable as a nice Jupiterian experience of superconfidence, but in the long run it helps to build strength and endurance and ultimately, a successful life in the physical plane.

Saturn turns retrograde today at nearly 5 degrees Sagittarius, and for the past month it has barely traveled a degree as it slowed down in preparation for its change of direction.  Saturn turns retrograde every year so this is not an unusual occurrence, but during this retrograde Saturn will pass back into Scorpio between June 14th and September 17th.  Because of Saturn’s role as a teacher (some call him the Lord of Karma), when Saturn appears to move backwards in the sky from our perspective he calls on us to clear up any messy situations that may still be lingering in the cosmos of our lives.  Unfinished situations often will blow up […]

Adventures with Uranus/Pluto: The vortex of the powerful cycle of change

Art by Ruysen Flores Venancino

In astrological language, the powerful planetary cycle involving a challenging square between Uranus and Pluto is culminating this week.  The fact that Mars is involved, needling Uranus into explosions where restriction has become untenable, and pressuring Pluto to effect its destructive influence and clear the decks completely, makes this week even more intense.

This is the first Uranus/Pluto event since the cycle began in 2011 when the planets came within a degree of the exact alignment, in which neither of the two planets are retrograde.  Retrograde planets tend to operate on a more internal level – they encourage us to look back into the past and re-visit experiences that need to be changed or altered for a more effective future.

The retrograde pattern has been a dance throughout the entire cycle, with Pluto retrograde alternating with Uranus retrograde.  In 2011 when Uranus and Pluto came within a degree of their exact square, they were both retrograde and there was an implosion of sorts as Uranus inspired a breaking out of the desire for liberation, and Pluto turned our attention inwards to the power of transformation within us.  From that point on, the alternating cycle meant that the focus of change shifted continually from our inner worlds to the outer manifestation of reality.  (During the first exact alignment in June 2012, Pluto was retrograde. In the second alignment in September 2012, Uranus was retrograde. In May 2013, Pluto was retrograde. In November 2013 Uranus was retrograde. in April 2014 Pluto was retrograde.)

There is a symbolic finality to the fact that the final alignment between these two giants includes both planets in direct motion – neither retrograde looking back at the […]

Planetary Illuminations: Astrological forecast for February 2015 is posted

Mandala by Paul Heussenstam Mandala by Paul Heussenstam

You can read the article in its entirety right here.  If you are not yet on my mailing list please sign up in the sidebar to receive this monthly report with a translation into language that is easy to understand!

Here is the introduction with the major events coming up this month.  To learn more about how your own chart is affected by these planetary cycles, consider a personal consultation.

The big story in February is the continued tightening of the square between Uranus and Pluto which will culminate for the last of seven exact phases in March.  Throughout February these two planets continue to tighten their dance, squeezing out any last bit of resistance to the cataclysm of change that our inner and outer worlds have experienced over the past five years since this cycle began.

The elemental balance right now is highly mutable, with four planets in Pisces and a shortage of the Earth element which helps us to ground and build a stable foundation from which we can evolve and grow.  This lack of Earth will continue over the next several months, making it even more important to ground ourselves and find stability where we can.

Uranus and Pluto have been interacting in a challenging formation to the lunar nodes – the signposts of evolutionary growth from past to future.  The lunar nodes are concerned with fate and destiny, and there is a sense now that every action has tremendous importance in carrying us towards that destiny.  Choices that we make create our fate, and cycles of change require a degree of trust in the wisdom of the Universe to effect change in exactly the best way to help […]
