Saturn in Capricorn: The pinnacle of achievement (and some practical advice)

Saturn in Capricorn The view from the top of the mountain

Saturn will be in Capricorn between December 19th, 2017 and December 17, 2020

The perception from earth of the movement of the planets through the symbolic constellations in the sky is one of the great tools that astrologers use to forecast the energies through which we live our life.  These energies operate on the macrocosmic level – everyone on the planet is affected to one degree or another by the movement of the Moon, or any of the planets, through the zodiacal signs.  On the microcosmic personal level, we are especially affected if the transiting planets in the sky trigger something in our own astrological chart.

About Saturn

Saturn is the outermost of the personal planets – the planets that are visible to the naked eye and which represent an aspect of our personality.  Saturn represents the impulse to achieve: to master the material world.  He imposes restrictions and places limitations on the goals and dreams that Jupiter has planted in the psyche. He has the tendency to engender feelings of insecurity, self-doubt and unworthiness.  Traditionally Saturn was known as the Greater Malefic (the Lesser Malefic being Mars) because of the tendency towards negativism and melancholy.  And probably because he ate his children in order to preserve his power which certainly didn’t help his image.

Still, while we can’t deny Saturn’s challenging qualities, his gifts are also great.  In ancient Greece Saturn was known as Kronos, Lord of Time, and under Saturn’s watchful eye we cannot deny that time is fleeting and death is before us making each moment more precious and not to be wasted.  The tests and crises that Saturn often brings with him give us the strength and […]

Planetary news this week: November 13, 2017 including the Big Venus/Jupiter Conjunction!

Venus conjunct JupiterIf you follow the astrological news you may have heard about an important Venus/Jupiter conjunction taking place right now.  Venus and Jupiter align every year or two so that alone is not news, but as explains, “In a word, the answer is declination. At the moment of the exact conjunction, this time there is only an 11′ separation between the planets in terms of declination. That means they are simultaneously conjunct and parallel. ”

You can read more about the astronomy , but essentially, Venus (love and attraction) and Jupiter (optimism and expansion) are closer to each other than they usually are even during a normal conjunction and they will be brighter in the sky.  The astrological effect of a Venus/Jupiter conjunction typically lasts only a day or two so you are not likely to notice any major change, but this can be a VERY lucky day, especially if it is in a favorable aspect to your own chart.

Jupiter is also moving into a harmonious dance with Neptune (inspiring magic and creativity) which will culminate on December 2nd, and throughout this week Venus acts as a translator between those two.  Magic and inspiration abounds right now, inspiring us to spread our wings and touch the sky as we reach for our highest aspirations and find a way to make our sweetest dreams come through.  Venus adds a glimmer of fairy dust to everything we touch all the way until the New Moon on the 18th.

The Scorpio New Moon is an intense one that will require some significant inner adjustments (watch these pages for more information later in the week) so enjoy the Venus/Jupiter magic this week and let it help you create your […]

Planetary news this week: November 7, 2017

horoscopes November 2017Saturn (discipline and hard work) and Uranus (innovation and change) are dancing in the sky right now – a harmonious combination that  brings inspiration and an ability to think outside the box while being able to remain organized and focused.  This can help us in all kinds of ways, from expanding a spiritual practice to creating a new business venture. It is especially useful for writers as it opens the doorway to multidimensional thought.  Though this dynamic peaks on the 11th of November, its influence is strongest this week.

We have two planets changing direction this week, signifying a change in focus and a different quality of energy.  Mercury moved into Sagittarius on the 5th, lifting us out of its former intensity in Scorpio into the more expanded vision of Sagittarius.  Then Venus enters Scorpio on the 7th and facilitates our passage into the dark Underworld of our passions and deepest fears and desires.  In Scorpio, Venus creates an important time to confront any issues in our relationships that may be creating problems.  This process isn’t easy, but is better entered willingly than by force.

The 9th brings a pleasant day which helps to empower and inspire us, although an awkward Mars aspect may weaken our resolve and make it difficult to achieve anything meaningful. (Sun sextile Pluto, Mars quincunx Neptune)

Between the 10th and the 13th we have a bit of rough astrological weather. On the 10th communication may be somewhat disconnected for just a day or so, and you may find yourself at odds on the 11th, wondering which path to take.  On the 13th we FEEL lucky and perhaps we are lucky that day, but we are also insecure and somewhat foggy.  If a golden opportunity presents […]

Planetary news this week: October 30, 2017

I’m busily writing the November Planetary Illuminations report, but here is the forecast for the week ahead:

  • Mercury (mind and communication) is in Scorpio right now, taking no prisoners and speaking Truth to power. Mercury forms a square to the lunar nodes (the soul’s evolutionary journey from past to future) on October 30th, forcing a shift in ideas where necessary in order to follow a clearer path.  There may be an idea or belief that is keeping us from being able to move forward, and you may find yourself facing a choice to remain stuck in the past or release that thought to move more confidently into the future.
  • The Black Moon Lilith (representing a primal feminine rage against the patriarchy) is revealing herself to be more and more important in light of the spread of sexual harassment revelations.  She turned retrograde last week at the Libra New Moon and has now moved back into the sign of Sagittarius.  In Sagittarius, the sign of our shared philosophies and expanded ideals, she will continue to spread the message of feminine power.  I’ll be writing much more about this over the coming weeks.
  • Chiron is active on the 2nd and 3rd of November, potentially triggering painful memories and situations but also offering an opportunity for healing.  These Chiron periods are good times for activities that will support your mental and physical health.
  • The Taurus Full Moon on November 4th asks us to balance the intense power of the Scorpio season and find peace and serenity in our environment and our personal lives.  The Full Moon forms a challenging square with Ceres, the asteroid that governs our ability to nurture ourselves and others, suggesting that an adjustment will be necessary in […]

Planetary news this week: October 23, 2017

This week brings some shifts in energies as the Sun moves into Scorpio, beginning the Scorpio season of darkness, myth and magic.  With the mind already processing the inner workings of the psyche now that Mercury is in Scorpio, and Jupiter’s entry into Scorpio squeezes out the nasty secrets in the entertainment business as well as the political realm (both Jupiter’s realm), we can no longer hide from the difficult and the dark.

On a positive note, challenging conversations may become easier under the influence of Scorpio, and our personal path to growth can be illuminated with the Sun aligned with expansive Jupiter.  Mars, the planet that inspires and motivates us, has moved into Libra where it yearns to find balance and integrate the confusion of opposites into one complete whole of understanding and compassion.

Over the next two weeks you may find yourself feeling more emotionally sensitive and reactive than usual as a challenging square aspect takes shape between Saturn (tests and insecurity) and Chiron (emotional wounds).  While this can be an uncomfortable dynamic, it can also help to facilitate the processing and release of old wounds that bind us to the past.
