. This week offers some respite from the planetary intensity we’ve been seeing lately. Between May 11th and the 15th, we see only mild and pleasant planetary alignments that offer support and help us to regain our balance if we’re feeling out of sorts.
We do see two planets changing signs on the 15th: Venus will move from fiery Aries to stable Taurus. Venus is quite happy there as the peaceful nature of Taurus supports the Venusian urge to form relationships and experience more beauty and equanimity in life. This period while Venus is in Taurus, between May 15th and June 8th, is excellent for anything Venusian: wealth, beauty activities, relationships of all kinds, love and harmony. This is not a particularly emotional time, or a time in which processing of emotional stuff will be very easy or even desired.
Mars also changes signs on the 15th, moving from Gemini to Cancer. Mars is NOT particularly happy in Cancer where it tends to be touchy and reactive rather than proactive and self-initiating. While Mars is in Cancer (between May 15th and July 1st), our drive, desires, and ability to manifest our personal will, all of which Mars motivates, will be colored by our emotional sensitivities. Mars is said to be in its fall in Cancer because Cancer is emotionally reactive; it is more difficult to be clear about our motivations and the true desires. Cancer is the sign of nurturing and caring for others, and there is the potential for codependent behavior because of the focus on the needs of other people in an effort to care for oneself.
The Scorpio Full Moon on the 18th could bring out some of these issues since […]
Now that the New Moon in Taurus has calmed things down somewhat, we can turn our attention to other matters. Mercury, the messenger planet, moves into Taurus on May 6th and continues the trend towards a more peaceful environment.
This will help the disruption caused by a stressful opposition between Mars (aggression) which is creating a lot of bombastic rhetoric while in Gemini, to Jupiter (expansion) which is in Sagittarius where it tends to be optimistic but also somewhat self-righteous. So there is a lot of righteous (Jupiter) anger (Mars) floating around for a couple of days. Having Mercury in Taurus now instead of fiery Aries will certainly help, but between May 6 and May 8th it might be a good idea to avoid unnecessary arguments which simply serve to blow off steam.
Between the 9th and the 13th of May we mostly encounter mild planetary movements that serve only to support and facilitate, except on the 9th a stressful Venus/Pluto aspect could bring up some power issues in our interactions with others. This lasts only a day or so and should be pretty mild.
Of course if your own chart is undergoing a stressful attack from one of the heavier planets, that stronger influence will take precedence over the faster moving cycles.

I just returned from a two-week trip to Greece. I have been fascinated by Greece my entire life – in college I read a book called The Sibyl about the Oracle at Delphi. I had an idea even then that I had had a life as a Sibyl, telling the fortunes of passersby in the service of the Mother Goddess. I never learned much about the history of Delphi, and didn’t know that in Greek times the role of the oracle at Delphi changed. And here is where I’d like to begin this story.
All of the ancient sites that we visited had at one time been temples to Gaia or some Mother Goddess before being rebuilt as the magnificent temples that we think of as representing the ancient Greece of democracy and the flowering of civilization. In Delphi in particular, the building which later became the Temple of Apollo was originally a temple dedicated to Gaia, or at least the Goddess who was later called Gaia. A creature called Python Delpyne, the Python of Delphi, protected the sacred site. In those days, we learned, the Sibyl spoke with her own voice – she transmitted message directly from the Divine to those who sought her counsel.
Me at the Temple of Delphi
In the legends that have come down to us, the god Apollo slew the dragon Python at Delphi and took over the sacred site. After the site was rebuilt in honor of Apollo (with a temple to Athena to placate the goddess worshippers), the Sibyl was no more. Instead she was replaced by an oracle called Pythia, who lost her own voice – she is said to have spoken gibberish […]
There’s a lot of planetary energies during this period, with three planetary bodies changing signs and two changing direction, as well as a Full Moon! Read on for all of the details… (dates refer to the Eastern time zone)
Saturn and Pluto turn retrograde. Towards the end of April both Saturn and Pluto will turn retrograde, meaning their apparent motion as we observe the planets will appear to move backwards. These planetary shifts from retrograde to direct motion mark shifts in direction of focus – the retrograde periods help us to look back into the past and see what is unfinished or what needs to be recreated in order to more fully serve us in the future. Then when a planet turns direct again we are able to make forward strides more effectively. Saturn and Pluto are preparing for that retrograde turn, they are at a virtual standstill and their influence is more powerful – especially if these planets are hitting sensitive points in your own natal chart (between 18 and 25 degrees of Capricorn, Cancer, Libra and Aries). Pluto turns retrograde on April 24th and Saturn turns retrograde on April 29th.
Saturn (tests and challenges) and Pluto (creative destruction) are at their closest point now until they collide in their official conjunction in January of 2020. The combination of these two planets generally denotes a destructive force that can clear the path of any debris that is interfering with the natural movement of the Universe towards balance. This has the potential to be a positive force, but it is also associated with contraction and challenge, especially now since both planets are in the contracting sign of Capricorn. They are aligned with the South Node of the past, denoting that […]
