Planetary news this week and the Supreme Court

This week’s biggest news of course is the big Aries Full Moon that occurred on the 24th.  Not big as in Supermoon big, but big as in eight planets all linked together in a dance of high energy planetary juju.  The energy of Full Moons take about three days to culminate and then about three days to dissipate so we are still riding the waves of that explosion of energies.

In the US news, the disruption of the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is a classic manifestation of the energies of this Aries Full Moon.  Mercury in Libra, desiring fairness, was tightly aligned to both the Sun and Moon, as was Chiron which brought up old wounds of the past to be addressed and hopefully resolved.  Uranus did indeed foster a disruption of the status quo which was looking like a seamless nomination and confirmation process.

This week we have a triple conjunction of the South Node (events of the past) to Mars (assertion and need) that includes the Black Moon Lilith, a force of primal feminism and the astrological mascot of the MeToo movement.  Combined with the lingering energies of the Aries Full Moon, this planetary dynamic will remain in effect at least until Friday.  Since allegations of sexual assault (connected with the Black Moon Lilith) are involved, I suspect the Supreme Court nomination process will not be resolved and more Kavanaugh accusers will come forward during this period.

Venus is in Scorpio now too, encouraging intense and passionate interactions which could overpower the tendency of Mercury in Libra towards polite conflict resolution.

It will be an interesting week!

Planetary news this week: Jupiter/Pluto dance and Mars in Aquarius

astrology.  Jupiter’s expansive beneficence (is that a word??)  has been intertwined in a couple of lovely dances this summer with Neptune (culminating August 8 2018) and with Pluto (culminating September 12 2018).  These are the final interactions in a series that began in December with Jupiter trine Neptune and in January with Jupiter sextile Pluto.

The outer planets are transformational forces – unlike the visible personal planets which address personality factors and tendencies, the transformational planets inspire personal evolution and sometimes bring about events in our lives which unfold into a dramatic change of some kind. While Jupiter’s influence tends to be personal – it can bring about good luck and good fortune and instill confidence and optimism.  When harmonizing in a trine with Neptune, the planet of transcendence and creative imagination, Jupiter facilitates the flow of consciousness expansion and increased awareness

Where trines are easy and flowing aspects that bring harmony between planets, sextiles are more dynamic and add a little excitement. In sextile to Pluto, Jupiter acts as a guide to help us into Pluto’s Underworld where the great treasures can be found – not only the treasures of the psyche and the magic of the great philosophical mysteries, but also the very keys to unlocking the mystery of Self Knowledge.

But all is not rosy in the planetary sphere – a challenging square between Saturn (tests and hardship)  and Chiron (emotional wounds which require release) which was in play in 2017 has returned to align within a degree.  Square aspects between planets often motivate some sort of crisis in order to achieve resolution, but when the aspect is super close like this one but doesn’t ever quite align, there may just be an unsettled […]

Saturn trine Uranus, an opportunity for creative thought

Technically, the the harmonious dance between the planets Saturn (structure, responsibility, achievement) and Uranus (innovation, new pathways to change) began in December of 2016 and completed in November of 2017.  But this week the two planets reconnect and come as close to the trine as they will come for quite some time – within 13 minutes of a degree around August 24th and 25th.

A trine is a harmonious interaction between two planets – when planets form a trine aspect we tend to see the best of those planets, rather than their most challenging attributes.

Saturn is grounded and practical and urges us to apply focus and discipline to get the job done.  Uranus, an outer transformational planet, inspires us to break free of Saturnian limits and shatter the paradigms of limitation.  This harmonious combination  brings inspiration and an ability to think outside the box while being able to remain organized and focused, which can help us in all kinds of ways, from expanding a spiritual practice to creating a new business venture. It is especially useful in opening doorways to multidimensional thought and creative inspiration.

Any type of visualization is perfect for this harmonious alignment which will be in effect until early September and possibly a bit beyond as the two planets begin to separate.  This beautiful interplay of planetary energies is the strongest influence in the sky right now, and a real gift after a stressful planetary summer!

Planetary News this week: Retrogrades and a Capricorn Full Moon

astrological forecast(Note for newbies:  “retrograde” means that as we observe it from earth, a planet appears to be moving backwards in the sky.  Planets obviously don’t cycle backwards, but from our perspective they do appear to and we call that “retrograde.”  When a planet is retrograde its astrological influence is more personal, it often turns our attention inwards and encourages reflection and a going back over things in our lives that may not be working as well as they could.)

I’ve been writing a lot about Mars retrograde because that’s the “in your face” planetary cycle right now (catch up here), but after Mars turns retrograde June 26th four planets will be in retrograde motion including Neptune (catch up here) which just changed direction last week.  According to John McCormick’s  which is out of print but available at a high price, four planets are retrograde only 12.7% of the time so it is not that common (two or three retrograde planets at one time is quite normal).

Mars will be retrograde until August 27, 2018 and this is an excellent period to re-assess our desires and needs.  Conflicts that already exist will be difficult to avoid until then, especially since for most of this time Mars will be forming a stressful aspect to Uranus, planet of revolution and radical behavior.  This aspect will be strongest between July 14th and August 19th, and then again between September 10th and September 28th.  Mars is moving slower than usual now because of its apparent retrograde turn, so its influence is more intense than is typical of fast-moving Mars.

After Jupiter turns direct on July 10th there will be only three retrograde planets […]

Money gets a new look under Uranus in Taurus

about a referendum in Switzerland regarding the very nature of money.  You will probably hit a paywall, but here is the relevant portion:

A decade after the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the world is still debating the causes of the financial crisis—down to the meaning of money itself.

In buttoned-down Switzerland, that debate is taking the form of a nationwide referendum set for June 10. Voters are being asked to consider fundamental questions rooted in the crisis: what is money; who creates it; and how safe is it? And they’ll have a chance to blow up one of the foundational features of global finance: the ability of banks to create money with just a few keystrokes.

That’s right, if a bank gives you a loan, it can pretty much create the money on the spot. It’s something that banks do every day around the world. It means that all money isn’t created equally, and the cash that pops out of an ATM machine isn’t the same as the numbers on a bank statement.

But if the Swiss referendum passes, all money creation there would have to be done directly by the country’s central bank.

Taurus represents all that is solid in our world – tangible, earthbound, things that we can touch.  Along those lines, it governs personal possessions and the accumulation of wealth and financial security.  As Uranus travels through Taurus, these ideas are likely to be disrupted and paradigms shifted.

The global financial system is pretty much based on ideas and trust, and this of course leads to financial collapse from time to time.  In my house, I rarely see actual money changing hands.  Income is automatically deposited into […]
