Chiron in Pisces: The bliss of healing

Chiron in PiscesChiron moves into the sign of Pisces today.  Chiron is an interesting planetary body whose orbit lies in the Kuiper belt.  But just as Chiron was not an ordinary Centaur even though he was half horse and half man, Chiron is not just an ordinary KBO (Kuiper Belt Object).  For more information on the planetary properties of Chiron visit this earlier article, and here you’ll find more information on the astrological Chiron.

Today Chiron leaves Aquarius for the sign of Pisces.  In its role as the Wounded Healer, Chiron shows where are deepest wounds lie, and where we will find the keys to healing.  A soul that has experienced the intensity of experience in emotional or physical pain has an opportunity to gain greater wisdom and a depth of consciousness and awareness by delving deep into the wound that is not available without these experiences.

Chiron is the guide on this journey, giving us the courage to open our hearts despite the fear and pain that may make this process excrutiatingly difficult in some cases.

While Chiron was in Aquarius from 2005 until next year (Chiron will retrograde back into Aquarius in July to complete the process) we have seen the ways in which technology, one of the domains of Aquarius, has created wounds and intensified experiences of loneliness and isolation in the midst of 1,000 Facebook friends.  Aquarius, with its double rulership of Saturn (rules and isolation) and Uranus (the collective) has a tendency to become somewhat disconnected from the heart and soul, living primarily in the head and the realm of thoughts and ideas.

The period of Chiron traveling through Aquarius completes itself with an opposition between those two planets […]

Mercury retrograde! Tonight until May 11

Mercury will turn retrograde on April 18th at 12:06 am EDT (4:06 am GMT).  Mercury, being the messenger god and the lord of communication, presides over all aspects of communication  including the mental processing of experiences.  Mercury also rules small machinery and short-distance travel.

The recent air traffic problems caused by the Iceland volcano is an example of Mercury Retrograde reversals.

When Mercury turns retrograde, as it does for three weeks four times a year, communication can sometimes become difficult, there are often travel glitches and snafus in contract negotiations.  This is not universally true, and we can go though entire Mercury retrograde periods with no problems.  But it’s useful to know when Mercury is retrograde so that you can be more careful with all matters regarding the transmission of information.  Put everything in writing, clarify everything two or three times so that there’s no confusion, and if confusion reigns anyway just laugh and say “Ha! Mercury is retrograde.”

Mercury is in stable and solid Taurus now, and the Taurus dislike of change could make the retrograde experience more uncomfortable.  During the retrograde cycle, through May 11, it will likely be necessary to go back and re-trace your steps, redoing any mistakes we have made.  Taurus prefers to be firmly rooted, moving neither forwards nor backwards.  This could create some inner conflict for us and make it more difficult to make needed transitions.

Because of the retrograde period, Mercury will remain in Taurus longer than usual making this a good time to become familiar with the pleasurable aspects of life in a body.  Delicious food, comfortable fabrics, the delight of a good hug – all of these things are highlighted for the next few months.  Under the Taurean influence we will be less inclined to chatter, particularly during the retrograde […]

Pluto in Capricorn – destruction of the Vatican?

Pope BenedictCapricorn rules the structures that give our society form and maintain social order, and for 1500 years the most powerful social structure on our planet has been the Roman Catholic Church. With its own city, its own government and its own rules, the Church answers to no worldly leaders. In fact, for hundreds of years the Church was the supreme authority over even the most powerful of monarchs.

So the current scandal in the Catholic church is about more than pedophilia; it’s about the very question of whether or not the Church is answerable to the governments of men. Dharmaruci at Astrotabletalk has had an interesting series of articles on “Popegate.”   In one recent article :

This could be a terminal crisis for the Catholic Church. It is a huge issue. Rowan Williams, the head of the Anglican Church, recently commented on BBC Radio 4: “I was speaking to an Irish friend recently who was saying that it’s quite difficult in some parts of Ireland to go down the street wearing a clerical collar now. And an institution so deeply bound into the life of a society, suddenly becoming, suddenly losing all credibility – that’s not just a problem for the Church, it is a problem for everybody in Ireland.”

I am sure the same situation must be arising wherever the paedophile scandal has come out. And of course it is not just about paedophiles. It is about the whole culture that has created so many of them. They are symptoms of a deeper sickness. The Church of course does not see it like that, and to that extent I think it will not be able to adapt and survive.

Pluto retrograde and a new nuclear arms pact

As I wrote a few days ago, “Pluto is associated with war of the nuclear type” so it is an interesting synchronicity of timing that just as Pluto changed direction to retrograde, President Obama of the US and President Medvedev of Russia signed a historic arms control treaty, hoping to reverse the challenging relationship between the two superpowers and to reduce the number of nuclear arms stockpiled by both nations.

Retrograde periods of any planet tend to turn our attention to the past and to any areas of our lives that need repair or rebuilding.   The treaty that George Bush signed in 2002 allowed 2200 strategic warheads; the new treaty would deploy no more than 1550 warheads for each country.   There are big loopholes in the treaty but it re-establishes an inspection regime (Saturn retrograding back into Virgo) to “bring the two countries back into a legal framework after years of tension.”

Saturn retrogrades back into Virgo

Saturn in VirgoSaturn is at its last degree of Libra today before retrograding back into Virgo tomorrow (Tuesday) at around 3:30 pm Eastern time. Saturn has been in Libra since last fall where it has been creating tests and challenges in the areas of partnerships and beauty, as well as our aesthetic ideals.

Virgo is the sign that deals with issues of day-to-day life in a body. The food we eat, the mind body connection and our health, our day-to-day routines such as the work that we get up for every day, and a thrifty and practical approach to our finances. While Saturn was in Virgo it forced us as a global people to look hard at these areas of life and we can argue that Saturn’s entry into Virgo began the practical move towards a more sensible approach to finance that began to bring down the irrational exuberance at the end of the Pluto in Sagittarius era.  Saturn in Virgo also forced us to face the reality of the deteriorating quality of our health, not to mention the healthcare delivery systems, and the fact that the work force is shrinking as manufacturing is increasingly automated and humans are rendered obsolete in many fields.

Saturn will turn direct and begin to move forward again on May 30, but it will remain in Virgo until it re-enters Libra on July 21st. While Saturn travels through Virgo it will no longer be conflicting with Pluto which will bring some relief from the intensity of the Saturn/Pluto square which has been putting a lot of pressure on the need to let go of the past and allow transformation to occur.

Still, when Uranus enters Aries in May and […]
