Jeff Jawer on Saturn’s Last Days in Virgo

on Saturn’s last days through the sign of Virgo.  My favorite part:

Saturn is the planet that says “no” but means “yes”. It exposes problems and places of dissatisfaction. Yet the clarity that it brings can reveal the steps necessary to improve the situation. Traditional astrology focused on the “no” side, calling Saturn “the Greater Malefic,” or biggest bad guy of all the planets. This extremely negative perspective has shifted a bit with modern psychological astrology that recognizes the transformational power of individuals as opposed to the old deterministic model. Still, Saturn in any sign tends to highlight its limits. Its presence in perfectionist Virgo dramatizes the tiniest flaws, which can undermine self-confidence. However, steady progress has been made in places where we’ve worked conscientiously to enhance a current skill set or learn a new one. A key to making the most of this transit is the avoid measuring ourselves against an unreachable standard of perfection, but to make small incremental advances where we can.

Saturn probably caught a break when Pluto came along and took away some of his more frightening qualities, but I love this idea that Saturn says No but means Yes.  I might say though, Saturn says Not Yet.  Saturn causes delays and disappointments, but also offers rewards of material success and an unshakeable foundation of security if we follow his instructions when he says “Slow Down.”

Will Neptune in Pisces Bring the Legalization of Marijuana?

It looks like we’re :  “The Justice Department this week announced that it will no longer seek to prosecute people using, prescribing, or distributing pot for medical purposes, as long as they’re in compliance with local law. However, regulations in some medical marijuana states remain murky.”
Murky sounds like Neptune, whose penchant for transcendent experiences encompasses both the sublime and spiritual and the confused and deluded.  An argument can be made the marijuana straddes both of these realms and can be used for spiritual insight as well as the illusion of escapism.
Neptune enters Pisces, its own sign, in April 2011.  Since both Neptune and Pisces rule all kinds of drugs, both natural and pharmaceutical, it is likely that legalization and recategorization of drugs could take place during this time period, along with a growing acceptance of drugs as tools for religious experience.

Top Planetary Events of the Week, Oct. 19-25

This is written for Eastern time zone, please adjust for your own location. This week is relatively quiet from a planetary point of view.  Here are the most important events in the sky this week:
1.  Mercury will trine Jupiter on the 20th, and with the Moon in Sagittarius there will be an abundance of optimism and encouragement.
2.  Venus forms a trine to Chiron on the 23rd, helping us to feel good about all of the healing work that we’re doing and perhaps facilitating good feelings with loved ones.
3.  The Sun enters Scorpio on the 23rd, marking the return to darkness and the time of contraction. and a conjunction of the Moon to Pluto deepens the intensity even more.  This is no time for superficiality – instead we plumb the depths of everything that we encounter.
4.  Mercury trines Neptune on the 24th, linking Chiron and Neptune with thoughts (Mercury) of healing (Chiron) and soul transformation (Neptune).
5.  Also on the 24th, the Sun forms a harmonious sextile to Pluto.  That dark intensity suddenly takes on new meaning; now we can work with it and transform it into light.
6.  The first-quarter Moon occurs during the evening of the 25th.  This is a time of adjustment after the New Moon.  Are we on track for the new things we initiated?

Pakistan Erupts in Violence and the Upcoming Uranus/Pluto Square

An escalating wave of violence struck Pakistan over the past eleven days is a hint of what I believe we will be seeing over the next few years as Uranus and Pluto begin to align in square formation.  This kind of insurgency is gaining a foothold not only in Afghanistan and Iraq, but in Somalia, Pakistan, the Congo, Thailand and, according to Russian news reports, spilling over into central Asia such as Tajikistan.  I’ll be writing more about this later, but when Uranus moves into Aries next June the revolutionary (Uranus) rage (Aries) will become even stronger and will result in more extreme measures to contain it (Pluto).

Pakistan has an intense astrological chart, with five planets in Leo and Mars sitting right at the Midheaven of the chart.  (There are several charts for Pakistan.  Pakistan’s legal independence became official at midnight on August 15, 1947, but it is generally celebrated on August 14th.  However, the oath of office to the first Governor General at 9:30 am, making the new government official.  We typically use the signing of a constitutional document as the birth time, but in the case of Pakistan a Constitution was not signed until 1956.  The independent government of Pakistan therefore began when the oath of office was administered to the new head of that government, August 14, 1947 at 9:30 am.)

I first wrote about Pakistan two years ago when Benazir Bhutto was killed as transiting Pluto formed an exact square to the ascendant and midheaven of the Pakistan chart.  At the time, I wrote “This is just the beginning of the crisis in Pakistan that is likely to begin a series of events that will lead us […]

Jupiter Turns Direct Today!

Jupiter changes direction today, moving forward again after several months of retrograde .  When planets change direction they slow down to a crawl and their influence becomes more powerful than ever.
Jupiter’s influence is all about good luck and good fortune, as well as confidence and our potential for growth in all areas.  There is a tendency towards generosity but also of .  Jupiter is in Aquarius now, where it has been aligned with Chiron and Neptune since the early part of 2009.  In Aquarius, Jupiter is even more idealistic than usual, and this year Jupiter has been working overtime to promote ideals of fairness and social justice under the Aquarius banner.  That battle has brought up a lot of chinks in the social fabric, with the pressure of Chiron to resolve unhealed wounds, and the insistence of Neptune to go beyond that which is practical.
Jupiter will catch up to Chiron and Neptune in November and the three planets will travel tightly together again until the conjunction peaks once again in February.  These three turned retrograde within a day of each other at the end of May, causing us to look back and do the work of healing the past that has been required.  With Jupiter moving forward again we will be able to move forward once again and put the benefits of this work into action.
