Crucifixions and the Full Moon Grand Cross

found this interesting correlation to the Grand Cross at last week’s Full Moon:

Health officials in the Philippines have issued a warning to people taking part in Easter crucifixion rituals. (Note the Moon and Saturn will be in Virgo.) They have urged them to get tetanus vaccinations [they probably won’t – Neptune is unaspected] before they flagellate themselves and are nailed to crosses, and to practise good hygiene.

On Good Friday dozens of very devout Catholics in the Philippines re-enact the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is something that has become a huge tourist attraction, although the Church frowns on the practice.

The health department has strongly advised penitents to check the condition of the whips they plan to use to lash their backs, the Manila Times newspaper reports. They want people to have what they call “well-maintained” whips [Now that’s Pluto in Capricorn for you.]

A Powerhouse of an Equinox

The Vernal Equinox occurs tomorrow, March 20, at 2 am EST as the Sun enters Aries, marking the re-entry of the fire element into our planetary cycles. The opposition of Mars in Cancer to Pluto in Capricorn has certainly been fiery, but the fire element has been notably missing.

The chart for the Vernal Equinox point features the Equinox Sun nearly exactly square to Pluto and still within orb of a square to Mars which is moving away from that pesky opposition point. Pluto, which is stationing (slowing down) in preparation for its retrograde turn, is amplified in intensity. We also find an opposition between Mercury (mental functions) and Saturn (disillusionment) that is likely to create some negative thinking and difficulty in communication processes.

One day later, the Libra Full Moon will move into position to square Mars and Pluto as it opposes the Sun, forming a Grand Cross. The next few days will be a powerful time, and the energy of this time will spill over into the next few weeks and possibly months. It’s very important now, in this time of great power, to be aware of the energy that we are sending into the world. Everything is amplified now, and each small event ripples into a greater event that has far-reaching consequences.

Mercury in Pisces and the Power of Silence

Mercury moved into Pisces a couple of days ago following on the heels of Venus, ending the stellium (grouping) of planets in Aquarius. Where Mercury in Aquarius seeks intelligently reasoned dialogue and, though rather insensitive, is concerned about social justice in Pisces Mercury seeks magic and mystery and connection with the divine.

Although traditional astrologers will say that Mercury is in its detriment in Pisces because its ability to think rationally is affected by Pisces’ watery nature which tends to act like a psychic sponge and the boundaries between reality and the mystic are often blurred, for spiritual matters Mercury is at its best in Pisces where it is unaffected by personal ego and rigid belief systems.

The psychic sensitivity that Mercury in Pisces (or in the twelfth house of your natal chart) engenders makes it necessary to spend periods of time in solitude and silence so that the psyche can be cleaned of external impressions. has been discussing the customs of fasting that many cultures have adopted during the period leading up to the Spring Equinox, including of course the Christian custom of fasting at Lent.

Beth writes:

I have come to believe that our Western emphasis on intellect, analysis and the mighty mind, rather than being an asset, is often a handicap. I am fortunate to travel in social circles with people who are astonishingly smart, articulate and creative in wordy ways. And I, myself, admittedly also aspire to this. But I am beginning to suspect that those kinds of brilliance, as important as they are in some ways, ultimately hamper our understanding and knowledge of who we are.

I have […]

Pluto and Obama’s minister

The pastor of Barack Obama’s church is back in the news after a videotape of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright surfaced yesterday. In the videotape of a fiery sermon delivered Christmas Day, Wright is shown saying:

“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York, and we never batted an eye,” Wright says. “We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is brought right back in our own front yards.”

While this is something that I myself have said, and probably many of you as well, it’s obviously a radical statement for a gentlemanly candidate like Obama to be associated with and intensifies the projection of race into the election season. Transiting Pluto is approaching an exact opposition to Venus in his chart which shows that his relationships could become a big problem for him.

Obama responded on the :

All of the statements that have been the subject of controversy are ones that I vehemently condemn. They in no way reflect my attitudes and directly contradict my profound love for this country.

With Rev. Wright’s retirement and the ascension of my new pastor, Rev. Otis Moss, III, Michelle and I look forward to continuing a relationship with a church that has done so much good. And while Rev. Wright’s statements have pained and angered me, I believe that Americans will judge me not on the basis of what someone else said, but on the basis of who I am and what I believe in; on my values, judgment and experience to be President of the United States.

It’s unfortunate that Obama feels he has to throw his pastor under the bus in an attempt […]
