Moon occults Saturn and the 110th Congress

Urania has a lovely post on the occultation of Saturn as the Moon passed over it this morning:

We have the unusual occurence early on the morning of January 6 — Epiphany — of the Moon passing before Saturn within viewing distance of the Earth, which is a very good omen for the domestic agenda of caring for the needs of working people, women and children.

Saturn governs politics and its method is to block and oppose. As Barney Frank said recently when he addressed the National Press Club, the Republicans will have the ability to block and oppose legislation. It’s a power they still have and is built in to the system. (Actually, that power comes from the American Indian’s political consensus model that was adapted by our founding fathers in constructing our governemental procedures.)

The moment of the swearing-in was accurately described by the Full Moon in Cancer, 2007. The Moon and Jupiter were in their own signs, Cancer and Sagittarius, respectively. Children, and many of them, were the visual symbol of the moment at the podium with Nancy Pelosi. It was like the nursery rhyme of the old woman who lived in a shoe, but this time she knows what to do — take away that war budget that is draining away all the money into death and destruction.

Saturn, the ruler of politics, remains in Leo, telling us that the father energy is still afflicted. The egotistical king, the cheap dad, is still very much with us, ready to block and oppose the women — Nancy Pelosi and the children and the domestic agenda of the 110th Congress.

Like a gift from the heavens, we have a very good omen early tomorrow morning, as the […]

Jupiter in Sag: Inflation fears surface

When the planet of expansion travels through its own sign, we can expect expansion of all kinds. Political, economic, and expansion of the physical body as well since Jupiter can bring self-indulgence and complacency.

The Labor Department yesterday announced that employers boosted hiring and raised earnings a half percent in December. Economic sectors with employment gains included architectural and engineering outfits, hospitals and doctors’ offices, banks, computer design firms, bars and restaurants, hotels and motels, and schools. This suggests expansion in planning for building, if not building, which may suggest the higher aspirations of Jupiter. Entertainment and travel are certainly under Jupiter’s domain, as is higher education.

This could give some hints as to where to invest your money over the next year. Just be aware that the cycle of squares from Jupiter to Uranus (the first of which is occurring now) could bring sudden surprises to your portfolio.

A New Comet! Harbinger of…?

Click photo to enlarge

reports:

Comet McNaught (C/2006 P1) is plunging toward the Sun. It won’t hit, but at closest approach on Jan. 13th it will be only 0.17 AU away–much closer than Mercury (0.38 AU). When the hot comet emerges later this month it could be brighter than a 1st-magnitude star. Or not. No one knows what will happen.

Space.com has a to watch the drama unfold.

Comets of course have had significant importance to human cultures since time immemorial. We are familiar with their portending doom and gloom, but they also were known to be the harbingers of great kings. Some believed comets to be messengers of the gods; they originate in the outer reaches of the solar system and merely appear as visitors. Even today, comets can bring hysteria. Who can forget the hysteria that occurred during the appearance of Comet Hale Bopp, when fringe groups waited on mountains to be taken to heaven.

It will be interesting to track this comet and see what comes of it. It’s unexpected arrival comes just in time for the Uranus/Jupiter square! Perhaps there is a message here after all.

The Good Shepherd and the US Chart

Phil Brown has of the movie The Good Shepherd. I like what he says about the US Sibley chart (the one most commonly used. The Sibley chart shows the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter all in Cancer and Sagittarius rising, as is appropriate for a nation that was founded on exploration (Sagittarius). The principle of nurturing the world comes from the strong Cancerian influence.

The movie suggested a connection between the national obsession with Communist Russia and a national neglect of the family and its children. We were so fixated on an outside foe that we neglected to nurture our own homes. Our whole national enterprise was given over to fighting Communism.

It made me think of the U.S. horoscope with those four planets in Cancer and then the Pluto in Cancer generation coming out of World War II with such a strong anti-Communist fervor. Nothing against Cancer—rightly expressed, it is a wonderful sign—but just look at our current Cancer president. Protecting the homeland becomes a “shell” game, moving around the deck chairs. We don’t really have national leaders who are helping us to nurture our deeper selves and our children, building strength from within. That seems like it would be a higher expression of Cancer, but it is one that has sadly eluded our nation’s political leadership.

The Sibly U.S. horoscope has Scorpio on the cusp of the 12th house and this is one reason why I do like this horoscope. Without buying into a whole lot of conspiracy theories, I think that the U.S. has a tendency to grow secret power cabals that operate independently of any oversight. The Good Shepherd really felt like a 12th house Scorpio, portraying […]

News from Jupiter

In late December abundant Jupiter made a sextile (harmonious aspect) to Chiron, facilitating our understanding and openness (Jupiter) and encouraging us to face the painful facets of our lives and experience healing there. We are still experiencing the echo of this combination until mid-January.

Jupiter is traveling through Sagittarius until December, and because Jupiter rules Sagittarius its power to expand and open up new possibilities can operate unimpeded by other influences. Jupiter in Sagittarius seeks adventure, prosperity, faith and meaning in life. Jupiter was last in Sagittarius in 1995 when Pluto entered Sagittarius, and this journey through Sagittarius marks Pluto’s leaving Sagittarius for Capricorn. There is a danger with Sagittarius of reckless optimism and self-righteousness, and we are likely to see some of these more negative aspects of this very positive sign over the next year.

Jupiter is also approaching the first of a series of squares (challenging aspect) to Uranus which will culminate towards the end of January. This is a revolutionary cycle that will continue through October of this year, bringing an eruption as Jupiter’s need for expansion accelerates the rebellious demand for change and freedom that Uranus inspires. This could also bring even greater religious battles since Jupiter rules religion and theology and Uranus seeks to knock the power base off its structure. This cycle will return again in May and conclude in October and signals extreme volatility in world affairs. On a more personal level we will experience an urge for change and expansion. I’ll be writing more about this cycle later.

For now, I thought it would be useful to explore some of the deeper aspects of Jupiter. It’s tempting to dismiss Jupiter as the planet of luck, wealth and good fortune, the planet of opportunity […]
