Planetary Illuminations: Astrological Forecast for September 2015 now posted

By | 2017-04-02T09:40:54+00:00 September 1st, 2015|Planetary cycles|

astrologerFull article here.  September is looking like a pretty amazing month – not too many big planetary aspects creating stress and conflict, but planets changing direction, changing signs, and two SuperMoons (term coined by ) that are also eclipses.  Eclipses are indicators of evolution, both personal and global, as well as the unmasking of hidden motivators and blockages from the past that are ready to be cleared.

If you are on my mailing list you will soon receive your simplified version which is written in plain English that is easy to understand. If you’re not already on this list please subscribe to Planetary Illuminations in the sidebar.

Meanwhile, here is the introduction with the major events for September!

The big news in September is the change of directions of three different planets.  First we have Venus turning direct on September 6th after a period of retrograde motion since July 25th. Venus presides over all that we value – our relationships, certainly, but also our relationship to money, our possessions, and our own feelings about our ability to attract positive things in life.  While Venus is retrograde we often re-evaluate what is important to us, re-connect with old friends and re-assess our financial position.  Venus is often associated with reversals in the financial markets and we saw this take place right on schedule.

Mercury (mind and communication) will be retrograde between September 17th and October 9th in the sign of Libra. While in Libra Mercury brings our attention to fairness and ways to achieve balance in our lives – in our relationships, but also in our conversations with others, our business partnerships, and our financial dealings.  Libra is ruled by Venus so there is an echo of the importance of […]

The sparkling light of the Aquarius Super Moon, August 10 2014

By | 2018-06-11T11:59:14+00:00 August 9th, 2014|Moon|

The Moon is full in Aquarius on August 10th – the second Supermoon (TM Richard Nolle) of the summer.  When the Full Moon is a Supermoon it appears larger than usual in the sky and its influence is more powerful.  Full Moons represent the culmination of our emotional awareness – the peak of insight and intuition and an opening of the heart.

Aquarius is known as the Water Bearer – while Aquarius is an air sign and tends to be rather uncomfortable in the realm of feelings, it acts as the container for the emotions (the water element) to flow through the personality and find a higher expression through insight and intuition.  The element of air represents the intellect, but it is the connection with emotional intelligence (water) that brings true wisdom.  Under the influence of Aquarius we are able to harness the realm of feeling and tether it to reason, enhancing our understanding of the way the world works.

Aquarius is ruled traditionally by Saturn and its modern ruler is Uranus, and both of these planets are active in the chart of this Full Moon (Saturn in Scorpio is in a square to the Sun and Moon, and Uranus in Aries is in a trine to the Sun and sextile to the Moon).  Because of Saturn, we will likely find that an adjustment is required in order to resolve the natural tension between the Leo focus on the individual personality and the Aquarian need to subsume the individual into the collective and create lasting change. Any planetary system involving Saturn requires focus and attention in order to navigate successfully.

The Sun is conjunct Mercury, planet of the mind and intellect, and both […]

Burst into awakenings: Aquarius New Moon January 30, 2014

By | 2014-01-29T07:34:47+00:00 January 29th, 2014|Moon|

The way to the New Moon on January 30 is paved by a harmonious sextile aspect from the Sun to Uranus today (January 29th).  The Sun bestows life-giving energy and positive life force, and when it harmonizes with Uranus, the planet of awakening and change, there is a blossoming of potential that stirs the soul and inspires a departure from the ordinary.  Anything is possible now, but under the opposition from Jupiter to Pluto we must  be very mindful of our thoughts and longings, because you just might get what  you wish for.

Both of these influences are embedded in the chart for the Aquarius New Moon – a “double whammy” Aquarius influence because the Sun and Moon are both in a harmonious sextile to Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius.  This is a time to shatter old paradigms and venture into the unfamiliar.  Break out of your routine and create something new in your life.

This New Moon is a “Supermoon,” a lunation that occurs when the moon is at perigee (closest to earth).  The term “Supermoon” is in common usage now, even by astronomers, but it was first coined by astrologer to whom I like to always give credit.  When the Supermoon is a full moon, it appears larger than life in the sky – a powerful presence that connects us intimately and powerfully with the lunar instinctive side of our nature.  When the Supermoon is a New Moon it is not visible in the sky and therefore its influence is different than when the Moon is full. This is the second New Moon Supermoon in the month of January.

As the beginning of the new lunar cycle, […]

New Year, New Moon!

By | 2014-01-01T09:36:20+00:00 January 1st, 2014|Moon|

The beginning of 2014 brings us a powerful New Moon in Capricorn, with a Grand Cross in the cardinal (action) signs.  Cardinal signs are initiators – they inspire leadership and movement and are just the thing to motivate the kind of goals and dreams that the New Year tends to foster.

This New Moon is a Supermoon (this term is in common usage today but was actually coined by astrologer ) because it is at its closest point to Earth.  It’s typically the Full Moons that bring about the greatest emotional exposure, but a Super New Moon can open up doors to new changes that are otherwise closed to us.

Capricorn is the sign of achievement and structure – stability, success and the trappings of success. Capricorn is the climber, and driven to produce something that will last.  This New Moon gives us an opportunity to manifest our dreams into the material world.  The Sun, Moon and Mercury are all tightly conjunct, and the presence of Mercury helps to translate our longings into ideas.  The addition of Pluto in the tight formation intensifies the power of Will and if we can focus that Will, magic can happen.

Mars in Libra squares the Capricorn planets, and some frustration or irritation could result.  Jupiter in Cancer is also involved, enlarging and expanding our desires and our need to break away from any shackles we have found ourselves in.  Uranus in Aries completes the Grand Cross, shattering paradigms and providing a window to break free if  we will only open it.  The Uranus/Pluto square is a powerful driver here, but now we have a team of other planets helping to facilitate […]

Sunday inspiration: Finding balance in the Capricorn Moon

By | 2013-06-23T06:43:50+00:00 June 23rd, 2013|Inspiration|

June Supermoon from Theoi.com

Today’s Full Moon is getting a lot of press because it’s literally the biggest Full Moon of the year – a Supermoon as coined by astrologer

From a post on the : “When the Moon’s feminine energy is combined with Capricorn’s discipline and drive for success, the result is a powerful, successful and disciplined female. The Greek goddess Athena immediately came to mind as a feminine archetype that knows her own worth and is not afraid to engage in the affairs of the world.”

That combination of engaging deeply in the realm of feelings and the inner heart (Cancer) and mastering the affairs of the world (Capricorn), like all polarities, can be difficult to achieve.  The appellation Athena means “Divine intelligence” and she was born literally from the mind of god (the head of her father Zeus).

When we live too entirely within the realm of feeling (Cancer) we risk losing the intelligence of the world that aids us in its mastery.  But if we place our entire attention on the machinations of the outer world and building structures to contain our lives (Capricorn) we risk losing the intuitive intelligence that connects us to others and helps us to work together for more effective life strategies.

That makes this image of Athena a brilliant one for the Capricorn Full Moon – she embodies the Divine Intelligence that helps us to bridge compassion and effectiveness, nurturing and discipline, the inner emotional realm and achievement and success.  Protecting one’s inner world and loved ones (Cancer) in order to grant success in the material world (Capricorn) is in fact Athena’s domain.

So at this Full Moon we seek to allow our hearts to […]

Summer Solstice and a Super Full Moon

By | 2013-06-21T16:34:33+00:00 June 21st, 2013|Moon|

Capricorn Full Moon June 2013The Sun entered Cancer today, marking the Summer Solstice and the beginning of the astrological summer season.  The Sun has been transiting over Jupiter for the past week which generally brings about a more expansive and optimistic atmosphere.  With the entry of the Sun into Cancer, it separates from Jupiter and there is some potential that we will fall to earth in a serious reality check.

This fall will have a relatively soft landing, since Saturn (the planet that governs reality checks) forms a trine to the Cancer Sun and harmonizes with the Capricorn Moon, helping us to gain greater understanding if we think to look behind our disappointment.

The Capricorn Full Moon on June 23rd accentuates the closing of the door to unbridled exuberance, since Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and tends to be seriously practical and disdain flights of fantasy or cheerfulness that goes beyond reason.  At the Full Moon, the Cancer Sun opposes the Capricorn Moon and forces us to find balance between emotion (Cancer) and practical duty (Capricorn), between home life (Cancer) and achievement (Capricorn), between connection to our family or tribe (Cancer) and our duty to the world around us (Capricorn).  Cancer is itself ruled by the Moon, so the challenge here is to learn to keep the heart open while taking care of the business of every day life.

At this Full Moon there is a wide but still active connection to Uranus and Pluto, awakening (Uranus) and requiring depth and focus (Pluto).  When Pluto’s pressure to delve below the surface is tied to lunar symbology it often takes us into contact with our ancestry and our inherited psychological legacy.  The Moon is at perigee (closest to earth) which […]

Richard Nolle predicted the earthquake in Turkey

By | 2011-10-24T05:21:28+00:00 October 24th, 2011|Ecology|

If you don’t already subscribe to Richard’s planetary forecast, I strongly recommend it. In his October forecast he notes that the Scorpio New Moon on October 26th is a SuperMoon with potential for significant geocosmic effects:

The likelihood of destructive storms, seismic events (including magnitude 5+ earthquakes and volcanic eruptions) as well as extreme tidal surges associated with the October 23-30 SuperMoon shock window is planet-wide in potential. If there are signs of particular target zones, they may be suggested by the astro-locality map for this alignment. This includes a longitudinal zone running from Iran up through Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia; and along the middle Pacific coast of North America (including Alaska, British Columbia, and the Pacific Northwest as well as California in the US). There’s also a horizon arc sweeping northeasterly through Australia and across Papua New Guinea, on through the Pacific to Kamchatka, crossing the Bering Strait and running along northern Canada before turning southward to pass through the Atlantic just off the eastern tip of Brazil. When the headlines of the day are written, they’re bound to include some extreme storm, tide and seismic activity along one or more of these zones. (Note that some of the same target zones are emphasized in both the full and new moon astro-locality maps.)

Richard Nolle is the originator of the term Supermoon to describe a moon that is closest to the Earth and therefore has a more powerful geocosmic effect.

Richard also suggests that this Supermoon period will bring about some economic improvement, saying “ it should be good for bonds, stocks and good strong currencies. Increased production and hiring look like part of this SuperMoon.” European markets are up today so we’ll see over the next few weeks whether Richard’s economic […]

Big Full Moon on Friday. I mean, really big!

By | 2008-03-10T20:27:23+00:00 March 10th, 2008|Astrology|

solstice_moon_illusion_1The full Moon of Dec. 12th is the biggest and brightest full Moon of the year.

It’s no illusion. Some full Moons are genuinely larger than others and this Friday’s is a whopper. Why? The Moon’s orbit is an ellipse with one side 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other: diagram. In the language of astronomy, the two extremes are called “apogee” (far away) and “perigee” (nearby). On Dec. 12th, the Moon becomes full a scant 4 hours after reaching perigee, making it 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser full Moons we’ve seen earlier in 2008….

This is both the brightest and (in the northern hemisphere) the highest-riding full Moon of the year. If you go outside around midnight it will be close to overhead and act like a cosmic floodlamp making the landscape absolutely brilliant, especially if there’s snow. Full moons are always high during winter and, indeed, the solstice is right around the corner on Dec. 21st.

I was awakened early this morning by a bright yellow sky at around 3 am and the effect of this Full Moon can already be felt (we generally consider the effect of a lunation to last for a few days before and after the actual lunar event).  It ought to be interesting, because this Gemini Full Moon sits right on my ascendant.  Astrologer Richard Nolle calls these Full Moons at perigee and it is thought that their astrological effect is more powerful, just as the Moon exerts a more powerful pull on the tides at this time.

The opposition of Saturn to Uranus which you have been reading about here and on other astrology sites forms […]
